Booked a very good last minute deal. E mailed Hotel for a room with Balc. on high floor. On arrival given room 104 on first floor, not a fantastic view, bathroom a bit small and noise from fan below a bit off putting. Stayed two nights then decided to ask for a change of room, no problem, moved up to room 303 which had a slightly bigger bathroom and although the view was the same, being on a high floor we looked over the roofs of adjacent buildings to the hills of Formentor and also a restricted side sea view from the balcony. Room request sorted thank you.
The impression I get from other guests is that there is big difference between the best rooms at the front of the hotel and some of the standard rooms at the rear, so if you are particular have an upgrade when you book, it is more expensive to upgrade direct from the Hotel.

The breakfast is just perfect, everything anyone could possibly want, we enjoyed taking our time over a leisurely meal and never wanted a lunch.
The evening dinner was also perfect, the same menu for three days...... but with 8 starters of salad, pasta, rice, soup and Specialties; with 6 main courses of fish or meat; also a buffet side salad; finishing with 8 different deserts to choose from we always had something different. The presentation and quality was excellent.
The unexpected highlight of our holiday was the invitation to the 85th Anniversary Gala Dinner on Saturday night. The evening started with a Cocktail party for all the guests, the owners family members and Hotel Management. The Gala Dinner Menu was inspired by the Inauguration Banquet which was served on 5th March 1929.
Lobster salad Belle Vue.
Braised partridge Flamande.
Minced fillet of beef "Henry 4th" with Tapenade of artichokes, served on Anne potatoes.
Creme Marie Brizard with candied fresh fruits.
Each course served with an appropriate specially chosen wine and all followed by Coffee
and Liqueurs.
We thank the Management for including us to your most enjoyable evening.

Between meals our time was spent walking the hills behind the Hotel. There are two lovely walks one to Cala Sant Vicenc where you can get a coffee and apple cake, the other to Cala Boquer take a picnic on this one. Its also easy to get the bus to Pollenca where we did three of the five walks suggested on the "Hiking in Pollenca map" obtained from the tourist office. A word of warning the map, estimated time, Distance covered, Level of difficulty and route directions leave a lot to be desired, so maybe it would be better to look for and buy better map or walking book. We didn't get lost just went the wrong way making the walk a lot longer. Another day we went to S'Albufera de Mallorca Natural Park by bus about 30 minutes, lots of unusual birds, and long walks so take the early bus.
When we booked our Thomson A LA CARTE Holiday we expected a service that was special and hassle-free, My hand luggage was questioned being just over 6kg, with an allowance of 7kg one would have thought this should be on the boarding pass. On arrival at Palma Airport, we were told, go to Thomson desk, we were given a taxi, actually a mini bus, but no welcome pack, nothing from Thomson at the Hotel and didn't hear from them all week, you might say that was a bonus but no information given on time of transfer. We did get a pick up time from the Hotel but this was 30 minutes before it needed to be, so I texted the 24/7 holidayline, for a charge, OK they did change it which just gave us time to have a proper breakfast.
Not an A LA CARTE service from Thomson.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views. No main road noise. front rooms have sea view more like a lake.

Just had a lovely week at the Hotel Illa d'Or. We stayed in room 111, a small front facing room but the size of balcony more than made up for the size of the room. We had read trip advisor before we booked with Thomson (who by the way let the hotel and it's guests down in a big way, mainly through lack of communication which in no way was the fault of the hotel) so we knew that the rooms at the Illa d'Or are smaller than a lot of other hotels and that's why we paid the extra for a Superior Twin Room, sea facing with large balcony. If you book through an agency on their website or via their shops, prices for the types of rooms offered at the Illa d'Or vary a lot, so make sure you understand what type of room you are getting before you arrive at the hotel as the hotel is very popular and the rooms get full very quickly. Our only complaint was we could hear the sliding wardrobes and drawers and doors slamming from room 110 but not room 112 which was on the other side of us, strange !!. The terrace was huge, with a lower part just perfect for the cooler nights at this time of year and an upper part lounging on sun lounges for soaking up the lovely warm sun (hotter than usual for this time of year), just perfect. Again it is true that the reception is only small but we found the reception staff to be perfect gentlemen (there were no ladies on duty whilst we were there), they wore immaculate uniforms, as though you were about to be walked down the isle and we found them to be very helpful and dare I say it charming. The bar staff especially Toni were very attentive, but it would be unfair to single any of them out as they all went that extra mile and worked very hard, all day and all night and the bar staff served the snack and lunch menu too. The restaurant staff only served in the evening, and were may be a bit under staffed for the amount of tables they had to attend, the hotel seemed quite busy, the menu was a set Menu all served by the restaurant staff, the only time you served yourself was for the salad bar, the menu changed twice a week but in my opinion had plenty of options to try different things out. Both the bar area and the lounge area had lovely soft furnishings with the bar area being the quieter end in the evening as the entertainment was in the lounge area. The Hotel is situated towards the end of the famous Pine walk, the only noise you could hear was the engines of the sea planes which drew crowds when they left their hangers and readied themselves to take off not too far off from the Hotel Illa d'Or. I would definitely recommend this hotel and Puerto Pollenca or Port de Pollenca and we will definitely be going back to this wonderful hotel with it's lovely friendly staff - thank you Hotel Illa d'Dor.

Room Tip: Try and book a room on floor 1 or 2 with a front sea view, although the rooms may be slightly smalle...

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. It is in a delightful location and has a gorgeous bar outside by the bay. It has a pool and really goes the extra mile with regards making you feel comfortable in your room and by the pool.
The pool area was very small for a hotel of this size and it was difficult to find anywhere to sit if you do not get up early. There are also beautiful walks near the hotel.
Now for the bad bits ! The Food! Illa D'or what are you doing??!! The food here really lets the place down. I am a self confessed foody! The breakfast was ok, apart from the fried eggs which were under done and had that horrid watery bit of yolk on top. However breakfast was plentiful and done on a buffet arrangement. Plenty gorgeous fresh orange and coffee.
Evening meal however was pretty dire. I ordered lamb one evening and asked the waiter if it could be served pink. I was then presented with what looked like an old grey dish cloth on a plate. Seriously not impressed. The gravy was like watery bisto and all in all I did not enjoy one meal that was served to me. In the end, although we had booked full board here, we stopped using the restaurant altogether and chose to eat in some of the beautiful restaurants in the town.
It was a shame as the rest of the hotel was beautiful. However for myself, if the food is not right it can ruin the whole trip! I would put this as a 3 star not 4 star hotel.

Dear harrogatefoody-76,

Thanks your very much, we greatly appreciate your review. Your reviews help us to know our weaknesses and improve them. For this reason, we have changed our system in the dining room. From this season, we have a new "a la carte" system in the restaurant instead a daily menu.. This helps our kitchen in the elaboration, improving the final result of the dishes and consequently the service.
We are having a really good feed back from our guests so far.

We hope to have the oportunity to change your feeling in a near future.

Thanks again and best regards from Illa d´Or,

The management

The side view sea rooms are comfortable with plenty of room. Modern little adjustable lights attached to the wall on each side alllow each person to focus the light so the otther is not disturbed. Clever panels hide indirect lighting, allowing good overall light. The rooms are kept spotless. Most of the maids don't speak English but you can mime what you need and they will do it. The sea view rooms are smaller but have a sunbed and outside terrace. The breakfasts are outstanding, with the largest variety of food, from healthy to fried and English to Mallorcan, eggs cooked any way you want, sweet, grained, white, whole meal bread, fresh fruit, cheeses. Yum yum.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are smaller than average. The side sea view rooms are nice, but the terraces have no...

Just spent a week in this beautiful hotel. Lovely cosy room, great views of the bay from the balcony. Delicious meals from the breakfast buffet to the scrumptious a la carte evening menus. Not a good idea if you are dieting!!! Staff are friendly courteous and very helpful.

Room Tip: Worth having the balcony on the front both to relax on and definitely to soak up the views.

a nice hotel to have afternoon tea, lunch or coffee at the beautiful pine walk, the nicer part of Puerto de Pollenca.
Prices reasonable and very calm sea in front of hotel.
Cala Pi at Formentor is an even nicer spot for a swim but there no path north to Formentor so take bus from centre

A truly beautiful hotel that oozes Mallorquin charm (I believe it Agatha Christie once stayed here, which is when she was inspired to write "Problem at Pollenca bay"). An evening in their restaurant is always very special, with their meals among the best I have had anywhere in the world. The views across the bay on a summers evenings rival any place in the earth! Pollenca will always be a place dear to my heart. A great Margarita at the bar too!

If you want to escape the typical tourist trap this is the place to go. But please don't tell everyone!
