“Great place”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

We have just returned from The Illa D'or hotel in Puerto Pollensa, Mallorca which is in the North of the Island.
We had a wonderful time. The newly furnished rooms are spotless and the beds were extremely comfortable. The views from our large balcony were stunning.

Breakfast in the hotel had an amazing and varied choice. The lunch and dinner on the outside terrace were also excellent. Gabriel and Miguel looked after us while dining. They were efficient and welcoming. Again, the views were stunning and right on the beach.

The staff were exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble for them even though they were full. The reception staff, Francisco and Emilio and the others were very efficient, kind and welcoming and did all they could to accommodate us.

We will definitely return to this hotel in the near future. What a delightful hotel and place.

Room Tip: Good rooms are with a balcony. Sea view even better

Brilliant hotel. great location away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre but close enough to it to have a relaxing walk into it. The hotel has all the facilities needed to have a relaxing holiday. Comfortable rooms and great facilities. All the staff from the chambermaids to the reception staff were efficient and friendly, always with a smile. The hotel is right on the waterfront with ample sun beds for everyone or if you prefer at the pool next to the hotel.

The food was excellent and the choice was great. The breakfast selections were particularly extensive with food to cater to all tastes.

I recommend this hotel without reservation and I will certainly be returning.

Situated on the non-raucous side of the island of Mallorca, the Illa D'or is a small privately run hotel where the staff care about the guests and the owners care about attention to detail. The hotel is quiet and backs onto the sea. I spent most days sunbathing on the patio and then jumping off it into the sea to cool down, there is an indoor and outdoor restaurant - the outdoor has the better menu and the steak sandwich is perfect for lunch. Pine Walks has a real Mediterranean feel thanks, surprisingly, to the pine trees that provide shade from the sun, and in the evening young and old guests sit outside there to play cards and have a drink.Fantastic atmosphere, stay here.

The flight, hotel and transfers were excellent. The hotel was in a superb location and the staff couldn't be more helpful, we sat and had our breakfast outside right by the side of the sea with superb views. I would definitely like to go there again and would almost certainly book through Thomsons

Room Tip: Best rooms are at the front of the hotel overlooking the sea

Positives - On arrival at the hotel, we could see all the way through the stunning marble receptiom, across the pine walk and down the jetty to the private hotel sailing boat. This was a sight to behold!

Beautifully renovated bedroom with East facing balcony and partial sea view. Faultless.

Varied and ample evening menus with great wine recommendations.

Plenty of sun loungers with unforgettable views across the port of Pollenca.

Helpful and friendly reception staff.

Negatives - well, there's only one - the service was terrible!
1) On our first evening, we waited a long time for our main course as there was 'a large group' in the dining room.
2) my husband booked a table at La Terassa, the outdoor fine dining restaurant for my birthday on Sunday 3rd August. On arrival, we were told they didn't have our booking, but "are we called Williams? Because Mr Williams has a booking and it's his birthday too"!! We were eventually seated, but spent the evening overhearing numerous couples and families arriving for their tables only to be told that they too didn't have a reservation. A nearby French family waited an hour and a half for their main courses. Even the very friendly and charismatic restaurant manager told us that it had been a nightmare of a day from start to finish.
3) we received a card addressed to Mr Williams with a birthday drinks voucher. Mr Williams received mine! Nice touch, but it went so wrong.
4) the outdoor bar staff were surly and under pressure. Woe behold if a female goes up to the bar to be served? You just get told to sit down and that they are coming.
5) we booked an early morning breakfast for 6.30am on the day of our departure, 9th August. It was not done, but we could see that the large group who were also leaving that day had had theirs and there was another couple whose table was set for theirs. We really should receive a refund for this. It was humiliating having to again suffer due to the large group!

I'm afraid that the service in general is rather Fawlty-esque! We heard from a longstanding guest that the manager of 34 years has left and so I guess the hotel is a transition period. We did see two suited gentlemen wondering around, but they didn't seem to help the poor service. It's a shame as this hotel is REALLY special, but is being let down. Come on Illa D'Or, sort it out before our next visit. Ingrid Ferguson

Room Tip: room 302 is excellent and more reasonably prices than the sea front rooms, but still with a sea view...

the hotel itself is quite nice: refurbished rooms, if you get a balcony (which we did) the view is amazing, food is pretty good, the location on the dock is amazing, etc. With all that said, and this is no fault of the hotel, it is extremely touristy. Nothing about our stay in the hotel felt Spanish. When we were there almost all guests in the hotel were part of a group over the age of 70 from England. We heard the week prior almost all of the guests were from Germany. This is not just for this hotel but for the entire town of pollenca. We wish we would have stayed in Palma and just made a day trip to pollenca for the scuba diving we did, which was awesome!!!

We stayed here as a family for a week to celebrate my father-in-law's 70th birthday. The hotel was beautiful and the rooms were lovely, with a lot of art-deco features in the communcal areas (the hotel was built in 1929). My husband and I had a room on the 2nd floor with a lovely balcony overlooking the sea. My father-in-law however had booked a single room and was expecting a balcony with a sea view also, but when we arrived he was given a room on the first floor with a view to the back of the hotel. We queried this and were advised that none of the single rooms have balconies or sea views. My father-in-law was disappointed as he had not been advised of this when booking and would probably have paid for a double room to be able to enjoy the view. We did enquire whether he could upgrade but there was no availability. On the positive side though his room (double for single occupancy) was lovely and he had a fabulous bathroom!

We did encounter a few small issues. One evening the toilet flush stopped working in our room and we reported it to reception just before going out to dinner - when we returned a few hours later it had been resolved and we were pleased that this was rectified so quickly. However all the members of our group reported problems with the wi-fi, which was intermittent at times and very slow at others.

The hotel were great and very accommodating during our stay (there were 11 of us in total). The breakfasts were lovely with slight variations every day which kept it interesting. We ate at the hotel restaurant twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both menus were good though I personally preferred the options on the lunch menu. The service was good for both meals and it was wonderful being able to eat outside overlooking the ocean (particularly at sunset). However service in the hotel bar (outside) could be slow even at not particularly busy periods and we were billed incorrectly on at least 3 occasions during the week.

The hotel offered a couple of nice touches too. For my father-in-law's birthday we were given 2 bottles of bubbly on the house, which we hadn't expected. They were also happy to arrange a birthday cake for us at short notice. We didn't finish all the cake and the hotel agreed to store the rest in their fridge until later - when we asked for it a couple of days later we were advised it might not be as fresh as originally and given a new smaller one free of charge, which was also a nice touch.

I would stay here again, as it is a beautiful hotel in an idyllic location with friendly and helpful staff - though improved wi-fi and bar service would be a bonus!
