“We will be back soon!”
Reviewed 17 May 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Uyal for a week commencing 7th May. We based our choice on personal recommendation and the many excellent reviews on Tripadvisor. We were not disappointed. What amazing value for money! What a fabulous location! The walk into the main town and back was very pleasant and should you wish plenty of reasonably priced buses are available.

We had a junior suite in the main building which we considered to be exceptional, plenty of storage and hanging space, a very smart bathroom with a walk in shower, a huge very comfortable bed, a sitting area with large comfortable settee and a balcony with chairs and table, and flat screen televisions in both the sleeping and sitting areas.

We stayed on half board basis, at breakfast there was a choice of fruit juices, a large selection of cereals and yoghurts, a huge selection of rolls, bread, croissants and pastries a good choice of cheeses and cold cuts etc. and cooked breakfast items. At dinner we were impressed by the salad selection, each evening there were about six mixed salads and at no time during our stay were any of those repeated, hot food during our stay included huge Mediterranean prawns freshly cooked on the grill, Paella, Tumbet, and various grilled meats. Thankfully chips appeared only twice. There was a good selection of sweets, fresh fruit and at least five cheeses.

At all times the staff were attentive and very pleasant. Everything was done with the minimum of fuss and complete professionalism

The only thing which might have spoiled our holiday were the whingers who had been before and not liked the refurbishment or the way in which food was presented. These people need to wake up and smell the coffee (no longer from a machine) this hotel has been extensively and tastefully brought into the 21st century, the staff are excellent and in keeping with modern times expect customers to have respect for their profession. (Grumpy customers and finger snappers beware!) Comments have been made about the hotel trying to attract a younger clientele, we’ve never heard such rubbish we are 63 and 67 and will be back, this year if we can get in!!

The rooms are very tiny 6/7 foot by 10/11, didn't have a tape with me but as l am 5ft it was easy to guess also very small window. All single rooms are on the back non have a balcony some are even by the lift shaft or the air con units all of which are very very noisy. No one had any drawer space just a shelf in the wardrobe until a small set of drawers arrived two days before l cane home, that was the talk of the night! l didn't find the staff very helpful , my key card didn't work three times but with a "tut" it seemed to be my fault. The food was OK but all the veg was frozen and only one per night not what l expected from a four star hotel. Met a lot of nice people who had returned for 3rd or 4th visit all would not go back and l never will . My stay was from April 29 to May 9 and room was 266, never to be repeated . IOM

Room Tip: Make sure you have stated sea view and balcony or you won't get it, take a copy of your booking

Dear Guest, we thank you to take the time writing your review. Abut the commets of the single room size I must tell that the single room has in total 13m2, I can understand that some guests may like a bigger room and in this case there is no problem upgrading to a double room with a supplement ,in case there is availability. Anyway we take note of your comments and we´ll try to improve in the matters you suggested. Best regards

I went to stay at the Uyal in April 2013 with my wife and her family. First, the staff were very helpful recovering a mislaid bag when we arrived. Our room was very nice and spacious with a huge roof terrace and the beds were very comfortable and excellent nights sleep were had. Breakfast offered a good range of continental buffet and cooked food and dinner always served up a range of dishes that I and the rest of the party wanted to eat.
The pool area was very nice, though at the beginning of the week the pool was very cold, though with the nice weather the temperature did increase to make it pleasant throughout the week, The hotel is across the road from a nice sandy beach and a short walk from a beach cafe. The 10-12 min walk to the centre was easy, along the promenade. I went cycling for 1/2 day to explore some of the nearby coast which is definitely recommended as it is easy and flat by the sea and I found some beautiful secluded coves. Was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the north of the island and would definitely return.

Having been here before prior to the refurbishment we were very excited to be going back. This visit was a big disappointment on many levels. We appreciate that many guests still love it here and that our view will be a minority report but here goes.A not very warm welcome in that we did not get the room we wanted and were told that we were on the first of two sittings for dinner ( no choice ) The room had been refurbished in what we can only describe as boutique/ motel beige. Two flat screen tv's in the junior suite but only BBC 1 & 2, no news or film channels. No art work or colour in the room and nothing to say you were in Mallorca-dreadful.Storage limited but a small 3 drawer chest appeared mid week. Huge comfortable bed but an impractical bathroom with an overbath shower at the narrow end of a wedge shaped bath with no elbow room and bath very, very deep with no anti slip or rail so be very careful climbing in and out of an exceptionally deep bath. Square shallow sink which was useless but trendy. No bidet. Altogether a sad change from how it was which was more characterful. The dining experience is a nightmare as the food buffet is set out in a narrow corridoor adjoining the dinning room and so is a constant battle of elbows and queueing. The choices are very limited particularly at dinner where the hot selction left a lot to be desired being of poor quality and variety. The choice of salads was marginally better. The staff seemed none too happy in their work and getting tea or coffee at breakfast took forever. They need to reinstall the tea and coffe machines they once had. After 2 nights we gave up and ate elsewhere even though we had paid for half board. The snack bar at midday is only open from 12 till 2.30.While the location has lovely views it is a half hour walk into the main centre along a promenade with very little shade. This hotel appears to be trying to attract a younger clientelle who may be more forgiving of its lack of character and shortcomings but for the more discerning and experienced traveller it is one to miss out.

First Stay at the Uyal, beautiful sea view/balcony reviews, stunning hotel, gorgeous freshly prepared food morning and evening, excellent service from all staff throughout the hospital. Great location for us non bikers, managed lovely walk around the bay, tasty food in some lovely restaurants, superb views and great for public transport so managed to get a few days trips in to Pollensa and Alcudia. When time allows next time, will be more adventerous travelling further afield. Beautiful little place, absolutely loved it. The weather for the first few days was wet and windy - thankfully the rain coincided with my visits to local restaurants for food and drinks.

Hubby and I went with group of friends all cyclists, apart from me, who managed to get some excellent cycling in. I believe they averaged about 80 to 100K most days.

Looking forward to a repeat trip later this year - already booked.

I took my wife to Majorca for her birthday. The Hotel Uyal was just brilliant. The room was modern and spotlessly clean, the staff were just amazing (why do we have so much poor service in England?), the food was gorgeous and there was a really wide selection and plenty of it. We had a really relaxing time and from our arrival at reception to our departure we could not find a single fault. The room and bathroom were kept really up to scratch every day even to the wonderful way the bed covers were neatly folded down into a fan design (a small thing but shows that there was care and effort to please their guests) This was our first visit and we are already planning our second visit.

Room Tip: Go for the full sea view or the side view. We had side view because we were late booking and all the...

We have been visiting Mallorca for over 20 years and last stayed at the Hotel Uyal about 4 years ago.

Since our last visit the hotel has undergone a major refurbishment, although it still retains the chic Mallorcan style that we loved on our first trip.

We booked a Junior suite overlooking beautiful Pollenca Bay, the room was very comfortable and the refurb has been done to a very high standard.

We were in the area to go walking, the location is perfect for walking and cycling around the beautiful North Mallorcan countryside. Cyclists from all over Northern Europe descend on Port Pollenca in the spring, and if you are lucky you might spot Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins who has a house in the town and spends much of his time training in the area.

The pace of the hotel is very quiet and relaxed, the staff, some who have been there since our first visit are courteous and friendly, although the service in the restaurant at breakfast can be a little slow. You might have to wait a while to be served coffee or tea, which isn't self-service. The old coffee machine was much better, I'm sure the hotel could easily sort that out.

In our mid 50's we were the younger end of the clientele, there were a few young couples and the occasional baby but mostly the customers tend to be 50+.

On arriving home I discovered that I'd left a small camera memory card on top of the fridge cabinet in our room, a quick email to Uyal reception the memory card was found and posted back to me. Perfect service.

My wife did have a concern about giving the Uyal such a good review, "if you tell everyone how good it is we might not be able to get a room the next time we go".
