Super location in south Port de Pollenca. Local 'on the doorstep' good bus services give easy access to Alcudia, Pollenca etc. Visits to both towns were easy and very pleasant surprises. The denser more commercial Port de Pollenca marina and town are all just minutes walk away. Plenty to explore for drinks and food in the calmer immediate vicinity. Food and drink shops also very handy. The broad scenic Pollenca bay and its beaches are all you might look for in a sun sand holiday. 'Romantic' is a great example of a modest smaller hotel - a little gem punching above its weight in many respects. Clean, well serviced very adequate rooms with typically harder style beds. The food in a very pleasant dining room was modest but suited us just fine! Some facilities in the nearby bigger and brasher sister hotel are available are perhaps worth a check. Didn't stay too long.
Would commend 'Romantic' highly as an mellow and pleasant place to be. Enjoyed it immensely.

Room Tip: Lateral rooms on the north side have much more open views compared to south side. Nine rooms to the...

Just returned from a weeks holiday. The hotel is in a good location, set across from a lovely beach and a 10 min walk from the centre, which is also a very pleasant walk along the promenade. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Rooms were cleaned every day and sheets and towels changed whenever you requested. Air conditioning is free but no fridge, kettle or television. We had a side sea view room (204) which had a fantastic view of the beach and harbour. We stayed on a half board basis. The breakfast was fine but we only had dinner at the hotel for 4 of the 7 nights as the food was not always to our taste and there are so many nice places to eat in the resort. The only real complaint we have about the hotel is the noise. The walls are paper thin therefore you can hear everything from the dodgy plumbing to scraping chairs.

The resort itself is lovely. Plenty of bars and places to eat. Recommend the bars around the square for a relaxing drink and people watching. Watched a few good rock bands at the O'Hara Irish Bar. The cafe bar next to the Nostalgia bar is very good value for money and do a fantastic mojito for 4.50 euro. The pine walk is also lovely for an evening stroll. Port de Pollenca is a perfect resort for couples and young families and we will definitely be going back but will probably try somewhere else to stay.

Room Tip: Side sea view of the harbour

We have recently returned from a very relaxing week at the Romantic. We read the previous reviews and this helped with our choice of hotel. Our room was cleaned on a daily basis and clean towels provided if required. Every room also has air conditioning which was very efficient. The only criticism was that we could have done with a fridge in the room. We were there on a half board basis and the food was very good if some of the choices were a little unusual!! The lack of a pool was not a problem as you can use the one round the corner at The Pollensa Park and having the beach just across the road is fabulous. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially the bar staff Ana and Rafel. We had a lovely time and are certainly considering returning soon.

My Wife & I have just returned from a very enjoyable hotel at the Romantic, we have been to Port De Pollensa on various holidays encluding self catering and half board basis, we decided on the Romantic as we had seen it before & thought we would give it a go, ideally we would have liked a front sea veiw, but with the great location of these rooms they are going to be snapped up fairly quickly, the room we had was a side sea veiw and was more than adequate. Food at the hotel is basic enough althought the breakfasts were very good, that said, there is a decent enough selection in the evening to cover most tastes. The staff are all very friendly and very effecient, the room was cleaned every day and fresh towels etc were replenished, the bathrooms are a bit on the small side and if you have a noisy couple next door the conversation can be overheard, but it's not the Ritz so get on with it, then again the Ritz isn't 20 yards from a fantastic beach. Free Wi-fi downstairs.

Room Tip: Certainly the rooms at the front of the hotel are the best as they are overlooking the beach, but yo...

Just returned from our second visit to this hotel. If you are looking for great value with a fabulous location you couldn't do better than this in puerto pollensa. We went b&b so can't comment on evening meals but the food was good.
Staff were all very friendly and happy to help. Rooms very clean and perfectly comfortable.
Ignore comments about it being "full of old people" they clearly have a better eye for a bargain, and there were certainly plenty of young people and families there.
No pool which is probably the only reason it's 2* but who needs a pool when the fantastic beach is just across the road. You can use the one round the corner at pollensa park.
Don't overlook this great option for accommodation in this great town.

We went to the Romantic Hotel last year for a quiet break in a quiet resort in a deliberately simple hotel, that is, one without a pool, a childrens’ club, or live entertainment. We were so pleased last year that we have just returned from our second visit.

Most things are the same; the staff, the unpretentious, simple rooms, big brass pots and bad paintings etc. Some things have changed, though. Last year the hotel was exclusively Thomson, and exclusively British middle aged and white. This year, more operators use it, and there was a mix of nationalities around, including Rusians, and quite a few families with well- behaved children. No problem with that. There are new windows and doors to the balconies (which still don’t have a light by which to read) and the Bathrooms are still merely adequate but still have the old slipper baths, which I don’t like- please fit proper shower cubicles. There is free wi-fi downstairs in the bar, reception area and outside terrace.
The hotel remains spotlessly clean, the beach is still where it was last year, just across the road, negating the need for a pool. The beach is clean, and safe and life-guarded. And the bath-warm Mediterranean is still as inviting a place to swim as any.

The food isn’t gourmet, but I have never eaten in a hotel buffet that was. There is very good breakfast spread every morning, and always at least four hot choices in the evenings. We have recently returned from a four -country trip in Mittel-Europa, and none of the hotels in Germany Switzerland, Austria or The Czech Republic , (all at least three stars as opposed to the Romantic’s two), offered better food.

... It’s also worth considering the extremely good savings that can be made by choosing to eat at the Romantic, which offers bed only; bed and breakfast, or half board facilities.

Let me illustrate. A breakfast and evening meal package works out at around £50 per person per week, or around seven and a half Euros per person per day. I did a comparison between eating at the Romantic and eating at the two closest bar-restaurants, ( La Maina and Tamarells), and came up with the following approximate prices: At the restaurants it was:

Full English breakfast : around: 10 Euros a head
Starter, say sardines: 9 Euros a head
Main course, say Hake 14 Euros per head
Pudding, say ice cream/cake 4 Euros a head

That works out at 37 Euros a day in the restaurants, and 7.5 a day if you eat at the hotel.

These are actual examples I compared on one particular day (I am very fond of fish), and obviously, they don’t include drinks. It works out at 518 Euros a week for two people, as against 105. Even if you don’ eat in the hotel every night, and we didn’t, it’s a good package; especially if you have children.

Plus, of course the hotel runs a buffet service, so second helpings and unlimited teas and coffees are included.

So, to conclude. We think the Romantic is a nice little 1960s hotel in a pleasant, resort, which is safe and resolutely middle class (you are much more likely to encounter little Saskia and Tristram on the beach than Kyran and Chelsea). It’s not flashy and it’s not modern. I would say it was for families with younger children or older couples. It probably wouldn’t suit teens or twenty-somethings, but then Port De Pollenca isn’t geared up for them anyway.

We have now firmly placed The Romantic on our list of “bolt-hole” hotels. Places we can retreat to and read on the beach for a week when we haven’t the time or the inclination to explore and adventure.

Room Tip: You can opt to pay more for a room with a sea view, ie one at the front of the hotel. Otherwise ther...

Had a great week there 28th July - 4th August '12. My mum and I enjoyed the food and the hotel was very clean and comfortable. Nothing too fancy about the place, but it could do with a bit of a face-lift in the rooms! The shower over the bath was no use nor ornament as it didn't work properly. That is the only negative!! Beach right opposite was great! The sister hotel around the corner wasn't great tbh with the evening entertainment but a 20 min leisurely stroll took you to the main square which was lovely and very busy!! Would go again but not for while I think!!

Room Tip: Not really a childrens hotel.
