“A wonderful base to explore Mount Etna and its vineyards”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

Corrado and Paolo have lovingly restored this impressive building, which sits magisterially in a landscape of vineyards and olive trees. You are welcomed by a friendly dog, before ascending a grand stairway up to the terrace - a wonderful place to take the evening air or eat breakfast al fresco. The views over Mount Etna are pretty unbeatable. You can even see a swathe of the last major lava flow in 1981.

Corrado, Paolo and their charming Sri Lankan assistant (Unfortunately I don't know how to spell his name) are very helpful and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. We also encountered another young Italian barman who was very friendly, and mixed us some demon Aperol Spritzers one evening.

The crowning glory of this property is the immaculately preserved Palmento (old, gravity-powered wine cellar) which occupies the lower floor of the building. The brothers love to show guests this important part of their family's history, and you can follow this by tasting Feudo Vagliasindi's Etna Rosso or "Sicilia" wines, now made offsite in a more modern facility. Very tasty they are too.

The rooms are simple, tastefully decorated and slightly minimalist (this suits our tastes so we like it). We would have preferred a double mattress, rather than two singles pushed together. We loved how peaceful and quiet it was at night.

Wifi did not work well in our room (108), but is good if you are in reception, the bar or restaurant areas.

Breakfast was good if not exceptional. Excellent coffee and cakes, but bread and fresh fruit were rather average quality. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel but the menu looked to be well priced.

The hotel is a 10 min drive from Randazzo and is the perfect base for visiting Mount Etna or the many excellent wineries in the region. It's about 90 mins drive from Catania airport, Messina or Milazzo (ports for the Aeolian islands), and one hour from Taormina. If you want to be close to larger towns and a wide choice of amenities, it may not be for you as it's quite remote.

Overall this was a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have high ceilings and the front facing rooms open out onto the terrace, with fan...

This impressive property looks a little bleak from the outside but once inside the owner Paolo is very keen to please and is ably assisted by a young man from Sri Lanka - he is the double of the American actor Antonio Fargas from the 70's series Starsky and Hutch. The rooms are uncluttered, clean and functional with lovely views towards Mt. Etna on one side and the valley on the other. We preferred the rooms on reception level with doors and/or windows that open onto great views There is a good fixed price menu of the day for 25 euros which was more than enough or alternatively an a la carte menu, alternatively there several restaurants in nearby Randazzo. Breakfast outside overlooking Mt. Etna is worth the visit alone. Although we did not use it, there is also a large swimming pool with plenty of sun beds and umbrellas. If you want to visit the Mt. Etna region and do not wish to pay Taomina prices then this hotel is perfect.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has windows/doors that open onto Mt. Etna or the valley as the air conditioning...

All, if you like to be surrounded by nature; mountains, vineyards, green valleys, then this is the place for you. The rooms are perfect and the views are out of this world. If you happen to be there in a sunny day, you have the best picture to take home. Breakfast is excellent and the restaurant proposes a typical cuisine. We ate there on one night, we had the degustation menu (for just 25Euro for a 4 course), which was worth it. The feudo's wine (their own "vendemia") met my expectations. (Etna Rosso Doc).

Overall the service was very good and the personnel were very nice and always available.

A very nice place in a very beautiful area.
Settled in an old and perfectly renovated Palazzo this hotel makes it to one of the best places i ever travelled. We were there in august, didn`t need the aircon and could sleep with open window - very quiet area.
The Room was spacious, comfortable bed, big windows with french balcony, a large bathroom with a nice shower all in all, very nice.
Around the palazzo is a vinery and an olive garden. It features a nice pool and stunning views of the etna and surrounding mountains.
The Staff was very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome.
Very interesting also the century old wine cellar in the basement, not in use for wine making but for small concerts, etc.
The Breakfast was for italian circumstances very rich, there were different cakes, pastries, some meat and cheese, different fruits and cereals.
We had an aperitivi in the restaurant in afternoon, which was also very nice and rich. I also liked their house wine.
We were all in all totally satisfied (and had, i would say with a 110 Euro/night also a very good value for the money) and very sad to leave after a short visit. We will definitely come back and already told friends to go there.

A beautiful old vineyard in the middle of the countryside. Owner so obliging making variations to the menu to suit the children. He showed us around the old cellar and showed how they used to make wine before. We were allowed wander through the vineyard. Situated near other lovely attraction Mt Etna, Taormina

the photos of this wonderful Feudo say it all. On one side there is Etna and the other is the Alcantara valley. We spent 2 nights here. It was the perfect place to relax after 2 weeks of travelling. .A great nights sleep is guaranteed, we were there in mid July and slept with the windows open! Owners and staff were extremely friendly and hospitable and we were given a bottle of their wine when leaving.. You should ask to view the Cellar. Great care and attention paid to its upkeep.
Unfortunately what was a complete "let down" was the service, organization and overall quality of the breakfasts. The Feudo is also a restaurant, and has 2 magnificent dining rooms perfectly presented and laid out (even at 8am). Meanwhile the guests (we were with a group of Danish tourists) had breakfast on the terrace. Nothing wrong with this as we had our own private viewing of Etna. What was wrong was that the tables outside weren't laid (we had to bring out our own cutlery, only one of the Patio umbrellas was open and there was no shade , and worst of all plastic cups and plates were put out for the guests on the breakfast table. I could understand if we had paid to stay in a hostel or were at a canteen. Presenting guests with plastic cups and napkins you would find in a bar while you have an elegantly prepared dining room, is lets say wrong, and there are no excuses! The breakfast itself was nothing special all sweet and little attention paid to the needs of foreign guests, who like ourselves prefer to try local chesses.

As said there is a restaurant, with a 25euro offer (exluding wine grappa) which we didnt try. There is an excellent Trattoria in Randazzo - San Giorgio e il Drago, which we thoroughly recommend.

If you find yourself in Randazzo, do stay here, it's worth it for the amazing scencery and the liberty style feudo. Just make sure you know what to expect (or what when you go for breakfast .

We had a wonderful stay at Feudo Vagliasindi. The food, wine, service etc. was perfect.
The place can be recommended as base for exploring Sicily - especially Etna. The hotel can establish contact to mountain guides and bike rentals.
