“Great Place for Pictures.”
Reviewed 19 April 2011

Went there today after a 2 hour boat trip on Loch Shiel(See my review).
Weather was superb. The area is really great for pictures.

Watch when you go the top as at the top the hole that takes you to the top is very small to get through. At the top is great views which makes the hardship worthwhile.
There is also a view point from behind the visitor center which can be hard work but well worth the effort

Unfortunately this is owned by the National Trust which means that if you are buying anything from the visitor center you will be getting ripped off. £3.35 a sandwich. £1.30 a can of drink etc. The center is well stocked with books.

“Terrific Views”
Reviewed 16 April 2011

After paying the 2 pounds for parking, I'm not sure paying to climb the monument was worth it. We did enjoy climbing the stairs up and squeezing through the little opening at the top, but the views from the hill behind the visitor centre are better and free.

“worth a stop”
Reviewed 6 April 2011

if you make trip with the jacobite steam train up to mallaig from fort william you can get out in Glennfinnan. there you can enjoy the beautiful view on loch Shiel with the Glennfinnan Monument and the Glennfinnan viaduct. But look for good weather because of the perfect natural colors of the scenery that is really worth a stop. And don´t forget to inform yourself about the history of the place you´re staying at the visitor center next to the monument.

Worth a stop if you are a Harry Potter fan. Views from the wee hill behind visitors center is worth the hike up.

“Late review visited in the winter”
Reviewed 21 August 2009

This review is very late.
Just wanted to say we visited last winter. It had been snowing the previous night the ground was very slippy but we walked / slid up to the Monument it was closed, so we climbed the hill at the back of the museum, the view was breathtaking. It was almost magical one of those moments I think I will remember in old age.
So there we were, car park was free, museum was closed, not a soul in sight we sat huddled in our car enjoying a picnic!!
So visit the Monument not only in the good weather, go in the winter as well.
