“Beauty of the 1800s!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2013

We came down from the mountain, cold, wet to the bone and tired, and went to the hotel to ask if they knew how to get to my hometown, Ålesund. We had looked at possibilities with buses but it would take some time... Mariann, the director of the hotel was supernice and while she arranged a ride with their taxiboat for us, she enthusiastically offered us to help ourselves to some coffee and tea and sit down by the fireplace and warm ourselves. An amazing welcome considering how fancy the hotel is and the state we were in.. We had been in the mountain for three days without showering and it had been raining all the way down. While we enjoyed all the "fanciness" around us, warm coffee and the heat from the fireplace, a woman asked if we would like some applecake with icecream. The charge would just be added to the boat ticket. The cake was heavenly :) Then Mariann came by again with her big smile and said the cake was on the house :D

Then there actually came some people with the boat who were there to give Mariann an award. She had been nominated to and named "best representative of good service in the service profession". Wow, how well deserved that was! I am definately going back there for an actual stay. All the rooms are unique and looks like they're taken straight out of the aristocratic 1800s. Beautiful.

Room Tip: Each room is unique and is named after famous visitiors, the available ones are open so you can look...

In one of the most beautiful places of Norway you will find this very special hotel. This hotel was remodeled as it was some hundred years ago (I suppose), all very beautiful wood and very special rooms, except room 27. Reception was so friendly to change our room 27 and upgrade it to a junior suite room 20 which was absolutely very nice and romantic. We had the other day to change to room 7, i believe the gost room, absolutely adorable. All the places are special, very beautiful decorated. Dinner was very good, the wines as well - expensive but worth it. Staff was helpful and very friendly, we would certainly go back to this hotel. Not only the hotel is near perfect but also the surroundings with fjords and mountains are stunning? Because of the rain we did not hike the sunmore Alps just behind the hotel, so love to go back - yes we will. I have read from a other reviewer that het surroundings are as taken out of a Tolkien book. Well arriving from the South, you cannot better describe it. A MUST hotel in Norway!!

Room Tip: Take a junior suite and go for room number 20!

The atmosphere is great, the hotel in itself really is something else, the nature georgeous, the staff very friendly and professional, the beds are really good. What more is there to say? If you're in the area it really is no need to hesitate!

Been here twice, during a road trip around Sunnmøre. Never stayed the night, but I can honestly say this is one of the most spectacular hotels I´ve been to. Every room has a name from one famous person who stayed here. Noble persons from the 19th century, like Emperor Wilhelm. They also have the blue room, which is haunted by a girl who didn´t get the man she loved. A nice, but tragic story, which you can read all about in the diningroom.
Try the applecake in the beautiful diningroom and have a nice cup of tea. The staff is always nice and helpful. From the hotel you can take a hiking trip to mount Slogen.

Next time I will definitly stay the night.

I was here attending a wedding.
The hotel is an adventure and surroundings are as taken out of a Tolkien book (weather in these parts of Norway also gives you the feeling of being in Mordor).
Highly recommended and definitely worth a detour.

Room Tip: On top flore you got a view of the mountain (Slogen) and skies, according to others :-D

We stayed for 1 night recently. The hotel is special and different. Quirky perhaps but in a very nice way. Staff are professional but friendly. It is a step back in time, no room phone, no TV but that is part of its character. Try it.

You cant argue with two nights in the most beautiful surroundings, being waited on by very caring hosts. There are wool blankets on the outdoor chairs for the chilly evening air. The roaring sound of a waterfall cascading down the mountain opposite the hotel is constant and is the backdrop to birds sounds. but this is a very stuffy hotel and has overly rich food. some dress for dinner. others do not. The Norwegians seem to know where to hike, but it isnt obvious to us Americans and the staff can only give us 2 options in the immediate area. The common rooms are stale and airless . There is no lift for the third floor so travel light . the wireless works in the lobby not on the third floor. rooms. Good for a remote rest. Not for casual folks.

Room Tip: ask for a bright room.
