Stayed here as part of a large group for three nights. The staff were friendly, but had a hard job coping with the large influx of guests.
A clean room and bathroom, but see below
Good lift to the first floor, but steps to negotiate to some rooms
Not so good points
I had been booked for a twin room, but when I went to the room, it had a double bed. Now I do t mind sharing a room with someone I don't know too well, but I don't want to share a bed! Reception firstly said that was what had been booked, but when I insisted that was not the case, they rechecked and sure enough I was right. They then said they could do nothing as they did not have enough single bedding! At this point, my colleague arrived and she too said this was not acceptable. After much huffing and puffing, my colleague was given a different double room for one night, but she would have to move back in with me the next day, but the beds would be made up as twins. Problem solved, but should not have happened in the first place.
Our room was not cleaned or made up on the Sunday. Towels left in the bath for changing were hung back up and those on the rail were left untouched. Beds not remade. Bins were emptied. Tea and coffee were replenished, but incidentally they were not very nice!
Scaffolding outside our window, but thankfully, no workmen!
Ok breakfast, but hot food left too long, cold toast and not enough butter. No teaspoons on our table, and when asked staff for one, I was told to take one from another table as they did not have enough! Very slow at clearing dirty plates
Our first evening meal took two hours to serve and the food was ok, but not very hot. Other meals served buffet style and were better, but not top quality?
The outside of the hotel looks very shabby with cracked render and water stains. There is so e outside seating to enjoy the dun, but very limited
The hotel could do with a lounge area for other residents when there are weddings in progress. There was nowhere to sit of an evening other than in the dining area.
Having said the above, the hotel is in a good location midway between Gloucester and
Cheltenham with bus stops outside with a ten minute service.
Would I stay again? Probably not. Others in the same event were at the Thistle hotel up the road and that looked much nicer!
