Lost Horizon Dive Resort Annex
Ranked #27 of 50 Hotels in Panglao Island
Reviewed 15 March 2013

3 of us stayed at the Annex in February 2013 and were very pleased with the standard of the rooms. They are clean, comfortable and extremely well equipped. if like me you travel with "gadgets" (phones, cameras, Notebooks, iPads, and so on) it can be very frustrating if your room has just one or two power sockets. The Annex rooms have an abundance of sockets which is a real plus. Aside from that (and more importantly) the bed was very comfortable, the aircon & fans (2 of) worked very well, and the shower warm. All in all a very comfortable room and I will return there. The restaurant as reported by others is rather basic, and the service from the kitchen can be very slow, with food being served luke warm at times.

As of 2013 Feb:

For 1695p we got a king size bed in a fan room. The weather was sunny and hot, but there is a ceiling fan and a rotating wall fan so this was sufficient (although for 300p more you can get A/C and a TV). Mini fridge, coffee, electric kettle, room safe, and best of all for women who travel light but hate always having damp hair in the humid climate a BLOW DRYER!

The room and bathroom are in excellent conditions. Another HUGE highlight for these rooms is that they have plenty of electrical sockets which have built in adapters. Charge away to your hearts content.

The Lost Horizons Annex Restaurant leaves something to be desired. It is rather dead, the breakfast was so-so, and the prices weren't that much cheaper even though it is back off the beach.

I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor. We couldn't see the ocean but for non-AC rooms (i.e. fan rooms) I...

The Lost Horizon Dive Resort Annex, better known as just the Annex is an exceptional hotel. The Staff working there are friendly and their service is remarkable. The Annex's pool is fairly sized but nonetheless clean! The pool is also located next to the bar which is a nice pace to hang out before heading out to explore with friends and very affordable. As for the rooms and bathrooms all I can say is that they are very clean and appear to be relatively new. AC, fans, wifi, tv and lights work great and each room has it's own private balcony. Food, drinks and snacks are extremely well priced as well as good. The Mini-bar in the rooms are a great bargain if you're to lazy to make the walk from your room to the bar. The Annex may not be located directly on the Beach but it is only a 3-minute (timed) walk to the beach. The Annex is however located on the main road or strip that has many great Restaurants & Bars with great local dishes and options such as European/American foods and Beers which are all well priced not to mention the service is great every where. Over all the Annex; Alona Beach and area are a great place to stay. I would recommend it to anyone whether it be a family, couple or solo traveler. Last but not least when it comes to booking land or boat tours get a guide down at the beach so you know what each one offers and you know aren't being ripped off. Also rent any scuba or snorkeling gear on the main beach only considering it's new and well priced. Boat guides will say they also have their own gear on the smaller islands for rent but all the gear is worn out or broken and not to mention twice as expensive then it would have been on the main beach of Panglao.

Overall, the Lost Horizon Annex probably offers the most for your money on Alona Beach and we would definitely return. The hotel building is new, with comfortable bed, flat screen TV, good AC, clean grounds, etc. The staff was friendly and helpful and the happy hour was a good deal. They also helped us book transportation to/from the port and for a day tour of Bohol.

Easy walk to the beach that takes just over three minutes (not as bad as other reviews made it out to be). Also close to many other resaurants and bars off the beach that are good for a change of scenery. Pool was nice, though you'll probably spend most your time in the beach area.

Everything on Alona Beach is walking distance. So, you're best staying at a place like Horzon Annex, saving some money, and walking to any bars/restaurants/activities.

The only downside was that the wifi was spotty. When it worked, it was fast. But, at least 50% of the time we had trouble connecting. Didn't take away from the overall experience, though.

Lost Horizon Annex is a great place to stay in Alona. Very easy walk to the beach and also close to the restaurants, shops etc. Rooms are clean and comfortable, there's excellent wifi and the pool (although small) is very welcome. Whilst the place isn't perfect, I checked out some others in the area and this is by far the best for the price. Rooms have a nice balcony (albeit no real view) and the staff are friendly. There is an attached restaurant, which is a little on the pricey side compared to some of the other local places. Food is below average - but I found that across the Philippines - so it's not really any worse than elsewhere (which isn't saying much though!!!) - cheese is processed cheese, 'milk' is powdered, 'juice' is powdered - everything in the Philippines seems to be processed, sugared and artifical. Yuck! As a vegetarian it's nigh on impossible to eat! We enjoyed our stay and wanted to book a couple of extra nights at the end of our trip but they were already full!! If I could make any changes I'd suggest:
* some more loungers at the pool - there are only 3, yet there are 20+ rooms!!
* new towels - they were small, thin & threadbare and we only got one each. An extra handtowel at least would be appreciated.

Just spent 9 days at the Lost Horizon Dive Resort Annex and we enjoyed just about everything during our stay. The rooms were very nice, big, clean with a comfortable king bed, refrigerator in the room and a balcony (the view is nothing to write home about) and very good WiFi. Hot water was scarce at times but it was usually at least warm which was enough. The staff was very friendly and efficient, handling our change in reservation easily and arranging for our transportation to the airport at a very early hour efficiently also. The food at the Annex was good but a little pricey compared to some of the other options down at the beach. Alona Beach was nice and it was off season so not many people but activities outside of eating and swimming or diving are limited and it's about a 30 minute drive to Tagbiliran for something to so or to see other island attractions like the Chocolate Hills.
Now about that walk to the beach. My expectations were a leisurely, sandy walk between a resort or two under palm trees, maybe my expectations were unrealistic. The reality is that most of the walk is down a fairly rough dirt road, a dirt road that turns to mud when it rains, and it rained at least once almost every day we were there. The road wanders past a resort under construction (thank you construction workers for the cat calls as we walked by) past assorted farm animals, a junk car at the top of some steep and poorly lit and steep stairs that lead down to the back of the Lost Horizon Resort on the beach. Just be prepared for the walk, its not horrible, its not unsafe, but you can be pretty sure it's not what you might expect. It's worth the savings to stay at the Annex vs the Resort on the beach but you do have to work for it a little. All in all a very nice place to stay with good food, nice rooms and a friendly staff.

Thank you for your comments and concerns about the dirt road leading to the beach. We have filled in most of the holes in the road and filled in the places that were muddy where water was standing. I apologize for any incontinence incurred during your stay. I review all comments received from our guests. Again thank you for bringing this to my attention.

FIRST of all: please be sure that you reserve this hotel and not the hotel from this company which is located on the beach (Lost Horizon Beach Dive Resort).THIS hotel is 5 minutes walk to the beach.

The hotel is between constructions, private territory and other hotels. They have the short road to the beach, but this road is "wild" without any signs and lights. The road through the streets is more convinient but a little bit longer.

The room was fine (IMHO pillows are VERY uncomfortable) with safe, balcony, TV and air conditioner. BUT in the bathroom there is no floor stopper for water. It means that when after wash ALL the floor in bath is full of water.
The water is not fully desalted. You feel like you swimming in the sea.

Between last level and the roof there is a big space which is full of swallows. After sunrise this hige amount of birds scream so high, that is impossible to keep the window open. But it is almost quiet when all the windows are closed.

They have wi-fi everywhere in the hotel.

About the service. In common cases the service is fine. They smile, they are polite etc. BUT in some other cases: 2 examples:
1. All the drivers in this place have some fix price list. We needed to go to the airport at 3 am. The fix price was 1800 peso. We were afraid that the driver would not come and decided to ask to order it through the reception. they answered - no problem, but it will be 4000 peso. On the question WHY they answered that the drivers live here and they should return (looks as a joke, yes?)
2. asked for laundry. They have not, but only after our several additional questions they understood that they can give the info about nearest laundry. No try to do this without these add questions.

For the breakfast juices are from powder.

"+"
- rooms are new and have all necessary stuff, including safe and balcony (except the case with floor stopper)
- small pool (for those who go with children)
- wi-fi in room
- the price is fine

"-"
- no client oriented
- have no own sun beds, towels and umbrella on the beach (even in front of their second hotel which located on the beach)
- own road to the beach is not convinient
- swallows under the roof
- not fully desalted water
