“Needs a boost”
Reviewed 24 July 2014 via mobile

This is a fantastic Restraunt, with fantastic food. I've been several times, and 6/7 times I've visited, we were the only people in there. The mirrors in there made it even more lonely. Been the only people in there, the staff can easily forget you are there, sometimes we have waiting 10 minutes at the coffee bar to pay the bill. However this Restraunt has massive potential if the owners put abit of work into it. With abit if advertising, this would be a very thriving Italian. I'd advise that they look into changing food prices, however if they were todo that, they would loose the benifit of using fresh food.

I recommend it.

“A general feeling of disappointment”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

I live locally to Capellos and have been several times over the past 3 years. The menu could really do with a rethink, the food is totally hit and miss (mostly miss) and the general atmosphere is poor. The members of staff are polite and venue is decent enough. It honestly has so much potential I feel almost frustrated. Whoever owns Capellos (Red Lion) needs to take a trip to Zizzi, Ask or Prezzo and get a feel for how a successful mid-range Italian restaurant should be.

“Pick this menu at the Red Lion Hotel not the standard one”
Reviewed 30 June 2013

We ate here recently with a couple of friends and their small child, we chose to sit in the main seating area not in the restaurant itself so we had the choice of this menu and their standard one.

We all had a mix of courses from each menu and the overall opinion was that the Cappellos food was better than the standard one.

One thing to be aware of was that they seemed to substitute/miss ingredients out and not tell you and think it was ok. For example the calamari came with a different dressing from the one advertised (the new one was spicy which suited the recipients but may not have done). A salad main course was tiny and we even questioned that they had brought out the starter size not the main course size. We were assured that it was the main course but they charged us for the starter... It was also missing the orange which should have been included, when questioned they said they had run out, given it was a main ingredient you would have hoped that they would have told us.

My husbands steak he said was average and the portion size (not the steak which looked like the advertised size) was small for the cost, he did not want tomato so all he had on his plate was a steak and a few chips.

However the pizzas were very good and I would certainly go back for them.

The staff were friendly and helpful and brought our drinks quickly the food was slow in coming but it was a Saturday evening.

“MEAL OUT WITH FRIENDS & FAMILY”
Reviewed 12 June 2013

Visited this restaurant on Saturday 8th June (6 people). We hadn't booked but had gone out in the early evening to enjoy the weather and decided to get something to eat. The Restaurant looked very nice although there were no customers in there at all, We ordered starters and main meal. After about 25 mins we enquired where our food was and were told it would be "2 mins" and it was probably about 10. Do not ask for garlic mushrooms as you only get 1 !!, and the pate came without the chutney (which we had to ask for) and with 3 miniature pieces of what looked like half eaten bread. We complained and were brought more bread and 1 more mushroom. All the starters are quite pricey and definitely not worth the money. 4 Out of 6 main meals were okay but the service was very slow, Don't know what would have happened if they had any more customers. To be fair the poor waiter did apologise but it would have been nice to have been offered maybe a drink on the house or a deduction from the bill. Needless to say we will not be returniing

“Second Chance”
Reviewed 24 February 2013

After consultation with the Manager regarding our first visit, we were persuaded to give them a second chance. None of us had high expectations for the evening but were pleasantly surprised at the improvement in the starters and main courses. Although the menu is the same obviously thought has been given into the preparation of the meals, regarding oils and seasoning. All present were very happy with their meals and the waiting on staff could not have been nicer or more attentive. There are still a couple of problems regarding the timing of coffees and the quality of the desserts. However we were all much happier with our meals overall and are glad to see that Cappellos are making efforts to improve. We look forward to seeing their continual improvement and visiting Cappellos again.
