We stayed here for 2 nights. Our first impressions when we stepped into the pub were good but not so when we saw our room. It looked tired- the curtains and net curtains were dirty. The bed was rock hard, the duvet was a cheap synthetic one and the heating did not work- lucky for us it was not a cold snap!! On the plus side, plenty of tea, coffee and nice biscuits were provided in the room. The breakfast, which was included, was plentiful. Service was variable- either really good or dire. This could be a really lovely place with a little updating and attention to detail.

I have to disagree with the negative comments made about the Oak, this was our first visit and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were great from the moment we walked in, our room was spotless and welcoming, the breakfasts set us up for the day - didn't even need a snack at lunch time whilst out and about. The evening meal (steak) was cooked exactly as we asked, a good portion and very tasty and the log fire in the bar area - what more could you wish for on cold March evenings. Thanks everyone, we will be back to see you again.

Stayed here about eight times over the past three years or so. I USED TO regularly recommended it to people, for it's food, it's customer service, it's cleanliness, it's rooms and it's general friendliness.
I have no idea what's changed, other than the inside of the pub being refitted (very shabbily in some places) but the last two occasions we've stayed, both within the last month, have been a shambles from start to finish.
We've encountered extremely poor knowledge of general customer service (won't bore you with the details), including senior staff expecting junior members to do their dirty work, very poor cleanliness of hotel rooms, very tired rooms in general which are in need of some serious tlc, as is the outside area with fences and gates dropping apart and the lovely food that used to be served in an evening now seems to be cooked without a care in the world.
We have many contacts, both face to face and online who will be made aware not to waste their money staying here any more. Such a shame.

Having stayed at The Oak on several occasions we were looking forward to seeing the refurbishments that had been undertaken. Well, we were not disappointed ! It looks fabulous and Chris and Gayle have done an amazing job. While still retaining the cosy, friendly atmosphere, there is now a fresh, updated feel and yes, it remains very dog friendly ! The meals are still very good value with more than adequate portions and breakfast is as good as ever ! We are looking forward to visiting again.

Went for a night out with the girls. There was a live band which was actually really good. Recently been refurbished and looks so nice! Bar staff were very friendly. Been here before for a meal and was very very yummy. Definitely recommend this lovely place!

At a loose end in the bad weather we pulled in for a drink, found it freshly refurbished, comfortable and friendly place, we ended up staying for dinner. Food was great for very reasonable price. Good to see a dog friendly place also.
