“Great accommodation & location, less great restaurant...”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

Just returned from a lovely two-night stay at The Kenmore Club. Superb location with stunning lochside views. We had a warm and friendly check-in from the receptionist called Tina, who was helpful with travel advice too. Our lodge was beautifully appointed with tasteful and comfortable furnishings and we found our lodge to be clean and inclusive of all the things we would need from crisp, white towels to toiletries in each bathroom. We enjoyed walks in the surrounding area, including a little exploration trip to the beautiful and abandoned Taymouth Castle. The accommodation simply cannot be faulted - unfortunately the same cannot be said for the on-site restaurant.

If you are expecting a "fine dining" experience then you'll be disappointed, which is a shame because it's only walking distance away from the lodge and the prices lead one to expect a certain standard of service and food. We were seated in the conservatory for our evening meal, the chairs were of the patio/outdoor variety and not comfortable for any length of time. The music playing featured Rod Stewart for majority of time we were there, but they were kind enough to turn it down a little. The tomato soup was nicely done with clean flavours, however, the bread rolls were the "bought-in-bulk" types and the starter selection was rather restricted and didn't offer a balanced choice. One of my companions opted for garlic bread and onion rings as a starter though and he said they were rather nice. Menu choices for mains were limited too and surprisingly, there weren't many choices of fish or shellfish dishes for a lochside restaurant but if you like red meat, you won't struggle much with the selection from deer to pork to beef (done in different ways) to lamb, etc. My companions said the lamb dish was enjoyable but unimaginatively presented on a pile of mash. The fishcakes were sorely disappointing with more dried-out potato than any hint of fish and lacking in any flavour, even a slice of lemon wouldn't have gone amiss. When mentioning to the "manager" that the fishcakes appear to be more like potato cakes than fishcakes he responded (at about ten decibels louder than your average person) with, "are you asking me if there is any fish in the fishcakes"? We said, well, I suppose so, yes. He said, "I seen the chef make them myself and he used over 4 kgs of fish." He didn't say what the potato ratio was though, one could only imagine! One of my companions and I then simultaneously said that we were sorry but we couldn't eat the fishcakes because they were so dry and bland. The manager took them away, brought back the menu and we declined to reorder when he said he would not charge us for the fishcakes (again, he said it extremely loudly which was rather unsettling). Needless to say, we never opted to stay for desert and on our way out the restaurant past the bar on the left, we heard the staff in a singsong fashion saying, "is there any garlic in the garlic bread, is there any fish in the fishcakes" and then howls of laughter. We also laughed on our way out because it did seem rather comical. In summary, we would definitely return to The Kenmore Club for the location and accommodation but we will dine-in like we did the previous night or simply drive to another local restaurant.

Room Tip: All the lodges appeared to enjoy great views across the lochs.

We are really pleased that your stay at The Kenmore Club was a generally enjoyable one, but we are sorry to read that you had cause for complaint about the on-site restaurant. Please be assured that your experiences in no way reflect the standards of service excellence that we strive for in all aspects of our business, or the experiences of the majority of our guests. We would like to note that the restaurant is not managed by the resort, however we will pass your comments to the Food and Beverage company. We are sorry that you were disappointed on this occasion. We really hope that this issue didn’t mar an otherwise enjoyable stay here, and that you will give The Kenmore Club another try in the future. We would love to see you again!

Just an overnight stay, ahead of the etape cycle race. Great location and great accommodation. We had a view over the lake and the living room and bedrooms were all very high quality. The pool was also good. Would stay again, hopefully for longer next time.

Room Tip: Ask for lake view

We have just returned from a 4 day break. Accommodation is very good - could not ask for any better! The staff are very helpful. The onsite restaurant serves good food at reasonable prices. It is best to book ahead.

We stayed here overnight on our way to the highlands and it exceeded our expectations. The lodge was wonderful - large open plan lounge/diner on the top floor and two bedrooms on the ground floor. Quality of furnishings etc was excellent too. If you have small children this would be a god send because of the space inside and outside (including playground, swimming pool) as well as the value for money. We had a good evening meal at the Waterfront restaurant and there is another option just in the village (looked very good). Kenmore is an interesting place too in itself. There was no where near to eat for breakfast but we drove into Aberfeldby and had a wonderful breakfast at the Habitat Cafe

Room Tip: Two bedroom lodges are excellent

We managed to book a night here almost blind thinking it was a hotel. When we arrived we were met by a friendly and welcoming receptionist who directed us to our beautiful cabin (No. 14) which is frankly better than our flat. Huge kitchen/living room an balcony upstairs and a large room with enormous bed and luxury bathroom.
We then went for dinner at the Waterfront (it was full but the very helpful barman reserved and set us a table in the bar area) and were both blown away by both the quality of the food and the service.
All in all, a magnificent place in a beautiful area run by true professionals.

We had been looking forward to staying here as we had heard excellent reports about this resort, maybe this is a reason we felt so let down. The Resort itself is in a beautiful setting and the grounds are excellent, we are Diamond Resort Silver members and have been members for many years going back to GVC and can honestly say this is the first time we have felt let down on the accommodation, we did not complain as the resort was full and when we are on holiday to relax the last thing we want to do is unpack, pack and unpack to move to a different cottage.
The layout of the one bedroomed cottage we liked and it was a good size, what we didn't like was the shabbiness and run down state of the cottage, paintwork was dirty, you could still see in-ground and fresh hand/finger marks on painted services spillages from drinks never wiped off, the wall paper was scuffed and ripped and again spillages from drinks and other marks in all rooms, light in the bathroom not fitted properly, in all if my own house looked like this, I would be very ashamed. I don't know if it is just this cottage, but even a coat of paint throughout would improve things greatly and a step up on the cleaning As with a lot of other Diamond Resorts the WiFi is awful, but we believe this is going to change shortly .Even though we loved the area this has definitely put me off returning to this resort.I seems if you book through other channels and are not Diamond member, you get better accommodation for a lot less money

We regret to read that you were not impressed with your apartment, we are currently undergoing refurbishments at the resort and as we hope you do understand this does take time to complete on all of the apartments. We would urge all of our members to let our reception team know if they are unhappy with their apartment, this enables us to help resolve the situation as soon as possible and help you to have the most enjoyable stay possible.

Though we were not staying in the Kenmore Club, four of us were out looking for a place to eat later in the day. We had visited one or two really good restaurants in the area, but were impressed by the easy going, friendliness of the staff we spoke to, including the chef, and decided to try it. We weren't disappointed - the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and the service prompt and professional. The food was exceptional and we were all full to bursting by the end of the evening. There was a wedding taking place in the marina across the loch and part of the celebrations included a firework display and the Waterside restaurant staff turned off some of the restaurant lights so we might enjoy the firework display better. This was just one example of the staff going out of their way to make your dining experience special. They are slightly hampered by the physical layout of the restaurant, but there are plans afoot to improve and develop this for the better and this will be the icing on a very delicious cake
