Owner description: The Scottish Crannog Centre is a 5 star, authentic reconstruction of an early Iron Age loch-dwelling which was built by the Scottish Trust for Underwater Archaeology. We also have a Gold award for environmental responsibility.Take a look at some of our underwater discoveries in the exhibition; walk over water into the Iron Age on your unique crannog tour, and get hands-on with ancient crafts and technologies. You can even hire a dugout canoe to paddle into prehistory (weather permitting). Special events run regularly and feature artists, musicians, skilled craft workers and other specialists who, together with our own team of Iron Age guides, actively bring the past to life for adults and children alike from ages 4 +. Also at our Centre, why not browse in our gift shop offering an excellent selection of books, crafts, and related items, or enjoy light refreshments from our snackbar.

A fascinating insight into early life around the Lochs. I don't have children but watching the look of wonder on the young lads face as the guide made fire was priceless!

We were staying at a cottage close to the centre (well 7 miles down a single track road by the banks of Loch Tay) and decided to try it out. It was great and the kids loved it. The demonstrations at the end were the icing on the cake (especially the fire demonstration, this big kid of 37 loved that!).

In a beautiful setting on Loch Tay we had a wonderful time experiencing life as it was in the iron age, trying out fire making and using lathes, with guides dressed in iron age costumes who obviously just want to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with the rest of us. We sat in the Crannog and tried to imagine what it must have been like so long ago - I learnt so much and loved it. We had tea and coffee, reasonably priced, and explored the small shop which contained many unique gifts of various prices - I bought a lovely brooch and my son bought a leather pouch. Recommended for all ages - only children will have to sit still in the Crannog and listen for some time to the guide.

Great to have so much fun while learning something about our ancestors. Great visit for all age groups. Good to see children being able to get hands on and try iron age tools and to try on some clothes of tthe time. Will definitely return with my grandchildren. The enthusiasm and knowledge of the guides really add to the experience.
