“3star 5 star price at a 1950s motel”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

It is quiete which is what we were after and the room was spacious but at $235 for the night overpriced .Dark brick walls ,carpet that's seen better days .The positives, beds comfy, very spacious room with a great view over the hills to the ocean. The location ie 3 Kim's out of town and the solid brick walls between the rooms helps ensure a quiete night .
The owners are friendly and helpful.

Many thanks for your review. It is always good to get feedback.
Montville and the Sunshine Coast Hinterland is essentially a short break market. . We are very much weekend driven. Weekends are our "peak season".
We thus very much rely on our weekend (Friday/Saturday) market to remain financially viable.
Living in Noosa you would doubtless be aware that it is very difficult to book a single Saturday night on the Hinterland. Most places have a two night minimum.
If we let a single Saturday night it will be highly unlikely that we will pick up a single Friday night. If by chance we do we then must absorb the cost of two full 'clean outs' at weekend penalty rates.
Unlike the vast majority of operators we have traditionally provided single night weekend accommodation.
This has been a real help to those coming up for functions and who cannot park their kids for two nights. Also for those who work late Fridays or have family sporting commitments on Saturdays but it does impact on our revenue. We thus charge a premium for a single Saturday night to try and recover just some of our shortfall.
We should point out that on a seniors package you can stay midweek upstairs with the coastal views for $118 per night including cooked breakfast!
To the young Mum anxious to be at a weekend wedding with a baby sitter for just one night we have been somewhat of a godsend. For the time poor couple with both working long hours to grab just one night away has been of real value.
We have always believed that if a single night stay on a Saturday is a great experience it may lead to a longer stay later down the track. That hopefully has been our payback over the last 17 years.
We of course sincerely appreciate your positive comments about room size, the view and the peace and quiet. Our architects are however somewhat distraught as to your tabloid headlines describing us as a 1950's motel.....its is supposed to be Victorian !!!!
Best regards and do come again but next time book a cottage even if for one night and even if it costs you a bit more!
Angus and Margaret

We are guesting in the Moonrise Cottage for a 3 night stay. What a delightful place it is. Angus welcomed us with a very lavish breaky hamper, filled with goodies. Mood music greeted us when we opened our door. Angus personally pointed out what's what in the Cabin. We have stayed in many Cabins, this has been the most welcoming experience. Cabin well set out, comfy bed,as well as Port and Chocolates while relaxing in the Spa. We thank you for the extra specials you have on hand that has made our trip so memorable. Lorraine and Val.

Room Tip: You owe yourself a holiday here.

Lorraine and Val, we are so glad you enjoyed your time with us. You stayed in Moonrise which is personally my favourite cottage. I love blue as a colour scheme and all the furniture was locally made from Silky Oak.
Chris, who is one of our great Montville craftsmen, was for twenty years a boiler maker and then became a carpenter. Thus both the ironwork and woodwork of the king size bed was his doing. We truly have some great local talent and we are delighted that you found the whole experience so relaxing and comfortable.
The music was from the late and so gifted Tony O'Connor. If you need to wind down put on any of Tony's tracks and all the pressures of the world seem to slip away and that is what we try to deliver when you stay with us at Clouds. We are so pleased that it worked for you and thank you for sharing this with us.
Come back soon!
Angus and Margaret.

My wife and I and two other couples recently spent 3 nights at Clouds of Montville. May I say that our experiences from first contacting our Host Margaret to arrange the booking to being welcomed by Angus were first class. The advice and assistance in booking diner with complimentary transport to local highlights was also first class. And the tasty BIG Hot Breakfasts by Margaret !!!!!

We shall be back to enjoy the accommodation and the welcoming Hosts Margaret and Angus.

Fully recommend.

Room Tip: Ground Floor rooms are quiet and have step free access.

Thank you for a great review but more importantly we are really happy that you had a good time. Our Seniors Package is very popular and we are delighted and humbled that so many come back again. We certainly hope that you all will too . We meet some terrific people and have a lot of laughs.
Just last week a delightful lady in her eighties confided in me that all men should marry! When I asked why she replied....."well dear, all men need adult supervision!". I suspect that Margaret, my wife, would agree.
Anyway we truly look forward to your return. It was great to have you with us. Your review was fantastic and Queensland have just won the State of Origin. What more could one wish for !!!!
With our best regards
Angus and Margaret.

This was our second visit to Clouds and we stayed in one of the large rooms on the first floor, which had a fabulous view. We like it because of its central location between Claxton and Maleny and it is good value for money. The hosts are the best part..always willing to make your stay pleasant, including transport to local restaurants. Unfortunately all cottages were already booked out for the 2 nights we chose so we didn't have a fireplace, but that didn't matter...will definitely book one of those for next time!

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room if you want a good view of the Sunshine Coast.

Just great that you enjoyed your stay. It is always a real buzz for us when we welcome returning guests....in this industry repeat business is the best compliment you can get. So sorry the cottages were booked out. It is a busy time of the year as so many come up to enjoy the wood fires on those cold hinterland nights!
We are delighted to drop off and pick up from the local restaurants. It simply means that you can enjoy a glass of wine without worrying about the drive home. I am still trying to convince ' the light of my darkness ' that I need a Rolls Royce to transport our guests. Alas to this point the Toyota crew cab has to suffice!
It was very special to see you back again.....we truly appreciated your return visit.
Cheers from Angus and Margaret.

Our three-night stay at Clouds of Montville was made special by the little extras.
Initially we chose Clouds because it seemed to offer what we were looking for - somewhere to relax after a few busy and stressful weeks. We wanted a private cottage, with a fireplace, somewhere not too far from home! When we arrived, the greeting was friendly and helpful. We had paid a deposit, but there was no urgency about settling the remainder - "When you have settled in." On entering our cottage, there was amazing mood music playing softly and the fire was laid ready to light. Looking around the spacious cottage - spa, king-size bed, en-suite, bathrobes, cosy lounge, roses in a vase, port and chocolates, complimentary soft drinks in the 'fridge, and a compact but well-equipped kitchen!! Soon our host, Angus, brought our Continental breakfast basket, and explained all the switches, knobs etc. Although the surrounding area is renowned for its beauty and places to visit, we didn't feel the necessity to venture out [in the wet, misty weather!] and found our cottage home all we could have asked for - and more! Thank you, Margaret and Angus.

Sincere thanks for your valued comments.
You are just so right that despite the weather a cottage is a wonderful way to kick back and relax. I often believe that the mist and rain simply enhance the experience, almost a blessing in disguise, as it encourages you to stay in, sit by the fire and truly unwind.
On wet weekends like you encountered I envy our guests and the warmth of the cottage and fire side! One wet and misty day we ourselves will have to stay in a cottage at Clouds!!!!
It really is great to find people such as yourselves who despite the weather can truly enjoy the moment.
Go well and do come back and see us again.
Angus and Margaret.

A group of 5 of us recently stayed here, booking 2 rooms. We were greeted by the friendly manager who offered us many services to enhance our stay, in addition to the local suggestions for places to eat and visit.

The manager arranged transport for us to the local pub for dinner on the first night and went out to pick up the pizza we had ordered the second night. Outstanding service!

Staff were extremely kind, rooms were nice and large and all of us really enjoyed our stay! We will definitely come back to visit, knowing that the manager will always have great suggestions on places to see and things to do.

We are just delighted that you had a great time with us and thank you for your review. It was simply enchanting to have a breath of Ireland stay with us!
Do come back again soon and why not pack a picnic and do the Kondalilla Falls to Lake Baroon section of the Great Walk, about 4 hours.
We can get you to drop your car at the finish of the walk and run you round to the start so you "walk to your car". It is a great experience in fine weather. I can promise that at the end you will feel so virtuous you will have to rush off and discover another of our terrific restaurants. (again we can provide the transport in case of the onset of an attack of Guinness!)
With our best regards to you all.
Angus and Margaret.

My boyfriend and I recently stayed mid-week from Monday 'til Thursday in the cottage named Raindance. We had a wonderful time and were delighted by the service we received. The cottage was beautiful - a nice warm cottage perfect for a couples getaway. The spa bath had jets and didn't take too long to fill up like most baths. The fire place was wonderful, especially at this time of year, and plenty of wood was provided. Just be careful not to keep the fireplace door open like we accidentally did (and nervously wave towels under the smoke alarm, ooops hehe). Everything was neat and tidy and everything we could possibly need was provided. It is clear the owners have great attention to detail. When we arrived, we were presented with a very filled breakfast basket complete with fruit, yoghurt, fresh bread, jams, cereal, milk, tim-tams and juice. There were roses on the table, candles on and music playing. We enjoyed watching the dvds (provided in reception for use at no extra cost) on a rainy night. Due to weather and being so cosy in the cottage that we often slept in, we didn't get to play tennis or go in the pool, but we viewed these facilities and they were well kept. It was a beautiful stay in a lovely area. The owners helped us with everything we needed and most people in the surrounding towns seemed quite lovely. I would definitely recommend Clouds of Montville and certainly will be sending my friends and family there. We hope to stay again sometime in the future, we had an amazing time!

Hi Shelly
Well it really brightened a somewhat damp and wet afternoon to read the sunshine of your review! Thank you so much for your generous comments and both Margaret and I are delighted that your visit with us was such a success.
We have always tried to make our cottages welcoming and comfortable....a bit like an old and much loved pair of slippers that you can that you can put on, kick back, relax and leave all the drama and pressure of daily life behind! Winter is of course perfect cottage weather as there is nothing like a wood fire, the relaxation of a hot spa, great food and very special company to make for a legendry stay.
Do come back and see us again. We truly value your patronage.
Warmest regards, Angus.
