“Fantastic short stay in the Belgium Ardennes”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

We spend one night with the family in the Belgium Ardennes. La Malle Poste had everything needed to get that feeling of being away from home. A very nicely decorated hotel. Moreover the restaurant was brilliant. We can imagine coming back in the spring or summer to enjoy the romantic garden that is part of the hotel/restaurant. Try to get room number 1. It is amazingly decorated and huge.

Room Tip: In the new part of the hotel try to get the top floor. (Seems the most quiet) In the old part of the...

This was an absolute oasis on a very long trip through Spain, France, Belgium and England. A wonderful stopover on the way to Brussels. Stunning rooms and stunning restaurant. Spoil yourself, you definitely won't be disappointed.

I personally loved this hotel due to its eclectic French style which inspired me to redecorate my own master bedroom! We stumbled upon this unassuming hotel as a stop over returning from Europe to UK and was pleasantly surprised. Our family room was gorgeous with many little romantic 'boudoir' touches and a jacuzzi bath! The lady on reception did not speak English but of course i don't expect that people in other countries must and my GCSE French finally came into use! The gardens were immaculately manicured and reminded me of the garden party scene in Alice in Wonderland, great for a stroll after breakfast.
The location is very central in Rochefort so you can stroll along to one of many restaurants and whilst we were there, there was live music playing in some sort of family festival with a beer tent which was good.
Breakfast in the morning was well worth the money as there were copious amounts of pastries, cheese, dairy and cooked food made to order. All served in a superbly elegant dining room with silver service to boot.
If you appreciate the finer things in life and love indulging in quintessential 'on the continent' je ne sais pas then i think you will love the Malle de Poste just like we did!

I was very disappointed when I pulled up outside the hotel, looking at the pictures you would think this is a country side retreat-erm no it is in the busy centre of Rochefort. The main building is a beautiful old house (where the restaurant and owners live), we were situated in what looked and felt like an underground nuclear bunker in a building away from the beautiful old house (this is where most of the rooms are). However the advertising pictures for La Malle Post show the old house not the bunker so you think you will be staying in a beautiful old house-this is not the case. Very misleading exterior building pictures. Also, when I booked the hotel the site that I booked it through listed the hotel as a 4*, it turns out the hotel is actually a 3*. We paid 100 euro for a standard garden view room but this did not include breakfast (this was an extra 15 euro pp) I think this is a lot of money for a 3* hotel that does not include breakfast. The owners were very pushy about breakfast but we decided that 30 euro was a lot of money for a continental breakfast, particularly when the food in the restaurant did not look very nice (& over priced).
Our room was fairly big, but because the walls were painted a very dark purple it felt dark and depressing. The bathroom had a big bath tub however it smelt like something was rotting in there. The toiletries were very basic: shower gel/shampoo 2 in 1 bottle which was attached to the wall (which smelt horrible) and cheap soap.
We used the pool - in the dark as we could not find a light switch after searching for 20 mins & no one was around at the front desk. The pool was quite cold and dirty, I would not recommend going in it. you could not get to the sauna etc as it was simply so dark you could not see anything (& nothing was even switched on, unlike it was supposed to be)
overall, I would not recommend this nuclear bunker I would spend your money elsewhere.

Room Tip: stay in a different hotel

My husband and I booked a double room for our 1st anniversary weekend. The room was lovely and spacious! There was a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, a nice little balcony with a view of the church accross the way. At first when I saw the price of breakfast I was shocked but honestly it was well worth it! Cheese and Meats, Fresh fruits, cereal and yogurt. Eggs cooked to order with bacon. The BEST freshly pressed orange juice I've had and coffee was strong!
We took advantage of the indoor pool, hamam, and sauna. The pool was freezing, however! We enjoyed the hamam and the sauna. The staff were very friendly and it was nice to have parking outback. Had a great weekend and was well worth the price.

Very charming hotel with all possible luxury! The biggest asset of the hotel is definitely its delicious food in particular when it can be served on the terrace where you can enjoy in all tranquility the end of a sunny day .....Rooms and public areas are tastefully decorated, the nice swimming pool, the lovely big garden where you can relax and the friendly and helpful owners and staff make this hotel incomparable to any other and the perfect location for an unforgettable Ardennes holiday!

Room Tip: I would recommend to go for the larger luxury rooms "côté therme" which have a jacuzzi !

We stayed in the La Malle Post hotel in Rochefort for a night. When we (2 adults + 2 kids, 8 and 10 years) arrived, we were shown to our family room which consisted of a large room with a bed (for the adults) and a long, narrow, and low-roofed second room under the eaves in which two kids beds had somehow made it in. The room was clean and well maintained. There was no A/C which made it rather hot at night, especially just under the roof. The hotel brought us a fan as soon as we asked for one though.

The high point of this hotel was the La Caleche restaurant which served us an outstanding meal. My wife and I had the 3-course set menu, while the kids split an adult size steak frite order. Everyone was initially served an amuse bouche consisting of several delicious little bites. The first course in the set menu was a wonderful gazpacho soup with bits of some kind of fish in it. This was followed by a magnificent magret du canard seasoned with honey. Absolutely delicious. For dessert, the set menu had strawberries in a cream sauce. The food was of the highest quality. The service was also very exceptional. My only complaint is that the lady who seated us claimed all tables on the outdoor terrace were reserved but throughout our entire meal and when we left the table at around 10pm, many of the tables were unoccupied. If you go to this restaurant in good weather, we recommend you insist on a table on the terrace.

Our breakfast on this terrace the next morning was wonderful. We had a delicious array of baked breads, fresh hams, juices and coffee.

The area has a lovely "safari park" nearby in Han-sur-Lesse which the kids loved as well as a trip to caves at the same location (which we skipped).

Room Tip: In the summer, make sure you ask for a room that's not immediately below the roof. If the weathe...
