Description: Recently awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence 2015 and Readers Restaurant of the Year Award 2016, this 2 AA rosette rated The Miller of Mansfield is an 18th Century coaching inn in idyllic Goring on Thames village, overlooking beautiful South Oxfordshire and West Berkshire countryside. Mary and Nick have dreamed of owning their own place and have long been searching for the right establishment. Whilst the food reflects Nick's love for simple but elegant food prepared with care and giving ultimate respect to the raw product (3rd Best Thames Local Restaurant Award), Mary takes time to consider the wine list & reals ales that she is passionate about (CAMRA Pub of the Season 2015). Our 13 individually designed rooms and family/luxury suites offer flat screen digital televisions, marble bathrooms, organic luxury latex and pocket sprung mattresses, Ren toiletries, slippers and robes (on request). The local area is full of activities for all. From magnificent stately homes and National Trust, to Royal Berkshire shooting school (RBSS), shopping in Oxford, Henley on Thames or Reading (not forgetting to mention the Henley regatta & festival) and racing at Ascot & Newbury) there is something for everyone to enjoy. Boat hire on the river Thames can be arranged. Also within a short walk from the Ridgeway, Goring & Streatley Golf Club, Chiltern Aerodrome and close to great cycle paths, The Miller of Mansfield is perfectly located to accommodate all occasions. Whether for a weekend retreat, a summer picnic, a short break, a private function or a quiet gathering, the experienced & professional staff will do their utmost to ensure you have the most amazing experience and Mary & Nick very much look forward to welcoming you.

We think the Miller of Mansfield are selling themselves short by not advertising their Sunday roast menu - there were (I think) four roasts on offer as well as a couple of items from their usual menu. There were six of us - two under 7 - and the little ones and I plumped for fish and chips while the other three all picked roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Of course, when it arrived, I had a bit of envy as the roast looked amazing. The fish, chips and minted peas were beautiful and I made enough of a fuss to be allowed to try some of the beef too, which was beautifully cooked and full of flavour.

The food was amazing, but so was the location and the service. There was no issue in presenting appropriate size portions for the children - even sharing a pudding between them. The sunshine helped of course - the children were able to play in the gorgeous courtyard garden outside while we relaxed and finished our meals.

We will all be back!

Food was excellent. Esp. Pear tartin with sea salted caramel which had so many diners fighting the urge to lick their plates. Bath chaps also superb as were the triple cooked chips. Overall very pleasant and friendly service. Will definitely be going back.

The poor old Miller has had many false dawns, and I fear this may be yet another.

Muted welcome on arrival hound chap behind the bar, we asked for menus and on a glorious evening went outside. Where we waited, and waited and waited and eventually had to go and hunt someone down to take an order.

Food was fine.

And then we waited and waited and waited for someone to come out, clear the tables, offer coffee, etc etc so instead this time rather than hunt out the staff we left and came home for pudding.

When we went to paid it was basically transactional, no interest in our experience or satisfaction

We live locally, and we are spoiled for choice around here so frankly they will need to up their game considerably.

I have to say the landlord was lovely and the food fab and the decor looked great but the staff were chatting about people eating there and we overheard - not good form.... being a local resident it has put us off sadly if certain members change maybe we will go back but we are spoilt for choice in our area and slightly worrying when waiting staff are making rude comments! sorry but feel the need for the first time to be honest.

We had dinner at The Miller on a Saturday night for the first time since it changed hands in April. We started with a drink in the bar area, which looks better with a warmer more welcoming atmosphere, the staff are dramatically improved - more professional and friendly. We ate in the restaurant at the back, which aesthetically still needs a lot of work, this area has always been a problem at The Miller, the room feels overly formal and completely lacking in atmosphere. The food was very good, fish cooked perfectly and well presented. The portions are small though, especially for the price, we are very happy to pay these prices for such good quality food and service but did feel portions were smaller than would expect. We live locally, we will certainly go back and considering the experience the new owners have I am sure it will continue to improve.
