“Out of the way hotel for an out of the world break”
Reviewed 18 February 2014

Just recently stayed here with my husband for 3 days and we had an amazing time. Where to begin?
1. Located in a gorgeous picturesque village location.
2. Fabulous outdoor heated hydrotherapy pool, magnificent for when it was raining and freezing outside.
3. The best luxurious towels in your room. As well as a beautiful suite that was well stocked.
5. Friendly staff who were willing to help where possible, always at your beck and call. Outstanding attention to detail.
6. The food is amazing and wine menu is extensive. We had breakfasts, lunch and a dinner at the restaurant and they were all a party in the mouth for your taste buds xperience.
7. Definitely have a per dinner drink in the bar beforehand - great selection of drinks and an extensive wine list to select from.

The only item that I would say is room for improvement is that the suite next door was being cleaned very early in the morning and you could hear the vacuum cleaner before 8am. Also you hear the workers preparing for the day dragging things around which is quite noisy. Would say to put such things on hold until at least after 9am if near rooms/suites that can hear such going ons.

Room Tip: Definitely order the vegetable hash brown at breakfast, the most delicious hash brown I have ever ea...

Barnsley House. Wow. What a great experience!

Room was beautiful, and the bed was so comfy. We were in room 9, which was lovely!

The staff in particular are incredibly impressive, and the service from booking to end was fantastic.

We were unlucky with the spa as it was really raining so we couldn't make use of the outside hot tub which looked amazing. The treatments were really wonderful!

The village pub was fabulous too, it's ridiculously cute. The food was amazing in both the pub and the hotel. We wish we could have stayed longer.

We loved the bar, and also the board games and unlimited wellies that were available!

Yes it is expensive, but it's worth it. Just go. YOLO.

We booked a last minute mid-week spa deal here during the snow in late february/march.
The whole experience was magical. The house was warm, cosy and elegantly decorated. The rooms were luxurious and spacious, with in-room dining and movie selection!

The staff were very flexible and able to accommodate any requests, including having dessert delivered to our room!

Don't miss out on the spa, which has a fantastic (hot) pool.

We also hear they have a mini cinema at the house, but we didn't make it due to the snow.

Will definitely come back.

Room Tip: All rooms are fantastic, but we managed to get one of the suites.

We stayed at Barnsley House for 2 nights on our annual Cotswolds pilgrimage, having twice chosen before to stay at the Cotswold House, in their suites, this time we decided to try somewhere new - and are so pleased we chose Barnsley House. We stayed in one of the Stableyard Suites, no.16 which was utterly fabulous. Service in the spa was exemplary, I had a facial and my husband a back, neck, shoulder and head massage - both amazing.

We ate at the 'Village Pub' on the first night which was lovely and just a short stroll down the lane (which was very dark, do take the torch provided!) and the second night ate in the hotel restaurant; 'The Potager' - fantastic food and great service. In fact service was nothing short of perfect during our stay, from room service to using the private cinema (great experience, order your popcorn in advance and drinks will be delivered, fab!), the spa and everything in between - Barnsley House did not disappoint and we had high expectations which were exceeded.

We'll be back without a doubt.

This hotel and spa are fantastic. Staff are wonderful. Accommodation great and setting is beautiful.

Emma Pape and Abi Pockett were on duty the night we arrived to stay at Barnsley House and they could not have been more accommodating. We arrived in torrential rain and were tired and weary by the time we arrived at the hotel.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The standard is second to none and we loved our stay here.

The hotel also owns the inn in the village and the meal we had there for lunch was smashing.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good this is a top notch hotel and rivals the best in the country.

Right from viewing the website to my initial telephone call all my questions were handled in a totally professional manner - very impressive. We stayed for one night and were allocated room 2. The bedroom was beautiful and featured glitter ball! The bathroom was huge and had a massive circular bath. All the fixtures and fittings were very high quality and the whole effect was "cosy glamour". Our rate included an allowance for dinner. I was expecting the dining room to be empty on a wet Thursday night in January how wrong I was. The French style dining room was 75% full with people all enjoying a delicious dinner. The waiting staff were very pleasant. After dinner we enjoyed a night cap in the cosy bar area. The next morning we used the spa area which was nice with an outdoor spa pool heated to 30+ degrees.

Barnsley House is a real class act. If you want to experience Cotswold hospitality at its best - check in.

My daughter and son in law arranged our 2 night stay for a special birthday and when we arrived we were greeted with Happy Birthday wishes and a bottle of champagne. We were shown round the public rooms which are all cosy and welcoming before being shown to our suite, The Secret Garden Room, which is just stunning. A huge sitting and bedroom area with a freestanding bath plus a very smart double shower room. The garden outside is completely private and would be a perfect relaxation area on a summers day. Unfortunately it poured down during our stay but that meant we could enjoy the room even more. A visit to the spa was a great success as was our evening at the Village Pub. The food is excellent. We dined in the restaurant on our second night and again every mouthful was delicious. I couldn't fault anything but would give special mention to all the staff we came into contact with. Each and every one of them was a credit to the hotel. (On checking out we realised we had been upgraded which was quite a relief as the Secret Garden Room is very expensive and I was feeling rather guilty at the cost!)
