I would highly recommend The Plough - Josie has a lovely manner - helpful and friendly. A very tranquil setting - food excellent cream tea the best I have tasted and the crab salad delicious. The situation is excellent for visiting Kelmscott Manor which is delightful. We stayed in the William Morris room which has good views over the front and not directly over the bar area.
We look forward to returning.

Room Tip: William Morris room has good views over the front it has a bath and not over the bar area

We stayed here 2 nights on a Groupon deal which was very good value.
Our room (The Kelmscott) had a double bed and bathroom with jacuzzi and shower over the bath. Bathroom could do with a bit of maintenance; wobbly loo seat and taps move around. The showe soaks the windowsill which would probably be best tiled with a bit of a slope into the bath but other than that it was OK.
Took a few minutes to work out that the TV actually works through the Freeview box remote.
We ate in both nights and enjoyed our cream tea on the second evening. Meals were nice and good value.
Only one downside that as we overlooked the front of the pub and garden we were kept awake on the Friday night until 3am when some people left in their car. We expected noise from the pub and would have been quite happy until midnight but to hear talking until 3 am was a bit too much, that said I would stay there again on a deal like this but probably ask for a room at the back

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear unless you are night owls

We just stopped at The Plough for lunch while walking the next stage of the Thames Path (from Lechlade to Radcot). It's a little further than the advertised 200 metres from the Path, but worth the extra few steps. We enjoyed a pint of a local ale and a baguette - I had mediterranean veg and feta which although a bit messy to eat was delicious, while my partner had bacon and brie, which was easier to eat and he described it as "excellent, really nice, I thoroughly enjoyed it". After using the facilities, we'll be all set for the next few miles of tranquil walking alongside the river.

A16th century building now a pub hotel and restaurant. Beautiful place and surroundings. My daughter had Shetland pony rides organised by the owner. The food was gorgeous, with a good wine list and real ales. The rooms are well appointed and full of charm and character. It won an energy efficiency award has access to a marina on the Thames - it was just a scrumptious time for us all - a perfect long weekend and at a more than reasonable price!

The Plough is an old traditional pub in a quiet out of the way Cotswold village that is still within easy walking distance of the river Thames & Kelmscott Manor. We had a relaxing 2 night stay & were very well looked after by Josie & her lady helpers. The breakfasts were cooked to order & were really good with the food in the restaurant being equally as nice. Our room was very well fitted out with bathroom having a jacuzzi bath which was fun to use!
All in all we very much enjoyed our stay.

My boyfriend and I stayed for 2 nights from 14th June and from the moment we were warmly welcomed by Josie, we knew were going to have a great weekend and so it proved to be. After we had settled into our room, we had a lovely cream tea and had a look at the menus for dinner later on: there was a separate burger menu.

There was so much to choose from, but in the end we both had the slow roasted belly pork. It was outstanding and as for the puds... the ginger pudding with butterscotch sauce was a dream and the chocolate puddle pudding was amazing. All the portions were generous! We were so blown away that we didn't bother looking anywhere else to have dinner on Saturday night, we knew that nothing could be better than the dishes created by chef Lou.

We were right. The burgers were just as fab and again the portions were sizeable. However, we did leave enough room for Cooke Dough Chocolate Brownie...and I am so glad we did! Chocolate heaven on a plate.

Brace yourself for your hearty cooked breakfast! It is tasty and there is plenty of it: we certainly didn't need to eat again until the evening!

Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated with free wi-fi available as well as tea/coffee making facilites and biccies. The bathroom was also spacious and had a jacuzzi bath as well as a shower. The pub itself has a lovely garden out the front and is very friendly.

Kelmscott itself is quaint and literally a short walk away (5 minutes max) is William Morris's House and gardens. There are also a few National Trust properties nearby (Buscott Park, Chedworth Roman Villa and Lodge Park). I wouldn't recommend the latter unless you are already a member of the Nat Trust, as it cannot justify its entrance fee of £5.50.

All in all, we had a wonderful time, nothing was too much trouble and we have already recommended Josie, Lou and the rest of the team at the Plough to our family and friends...and now we recommend them and it to you!

P.S. Lou, please could I have the recipe for your Cookie Dough Chocolate Brownie, I am having withdrawal symptoms!
