“Good quality venue”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

Had Sunday lunch there twice in last two weeks. A fairly upmarket experience. Excellent atmosphere. Meat excellent quality. Vegetables quality but small in quantity Price probably about right for sort of restaurant. Any higher and it would NOT be value for money.

Staff young but pleasant and efficient. Car park is very difficult to access. Better to park in the High St - a couple of minutes walk from the restaurant.

“Great Food”
Reviewed 29 March 2014

This is a charming, comfortably furnished, long established hotel right in the centre of town. A family meal for seven was catered for extremely well, and everyone praised the quality and serving of the food.

“Great Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed 23 March 2014 via mobile

Excellent food, building and surroundings.

Lunch may not seem good value for the potion sizes, but the quality cannot be faulted. Every part of the meal was high quality and cooked and presented well.

There has been probably been some staff training as staff were fine, not great, but better than previous reviews.

“Drinks off the menu”
Reviewed 21 December 2013

We had a social night out at this bar - certain drinks were ordered and we were told they had run out, next choice was no longer being served as the hotel didn't like selling those 'particular' type of drinks. Abit rude and disappointing as the customer in a bar just likes to get what they order. Would not return to this place.

“Nice restaurant, good food, slack service, disappointing attitudes”
Reviewed 16 December 2013 via mobile

We paid up, left no tip and decided that you need to know what you could be in for. Food is very good, but this is not a slick, classy place for a special family occasion.

After visiting this restaurant for lunch on several occasions over the last few months my brother and I decided to book for our family Christmas dinner for 8 at this pretty hotel/restaurant with its lovely decor.
Our pre dinner drinks were served in the lounge area with comfy leather seats. The area was nicely decorated with bowls of nuts, tangerines and chocolates. Dinner orders were taken and 20 minutes later we were shown to our table in the restaurant - nicely laid up (but not Christmassy).
The starters arrived promptly and were very tasty. The wine which we had pre-ordered turned up just as we were finishing our starters. There was just 1 bottle of water on the table for 8 of us - the waitresses did not offer to pour. That bottle didn't serve us all so we ordered another one .... this took more than 15 minutes to arrive.
The main courses arrived a few minutes after finishing our starters - the food looked delicious. However, the accompanying delicious mixed vegetables took another 10 minutes to arrive, after a reminder to the waitresses ... by which time we had decided to eat our meat and sauce before that got cold.
The waitresses were clearly struggling either to keep up with service or to remember our requests for refill of our solitary bottle of water. Our children's soft drinks were ordered but didn't arrive until desserts were served. The desserts were delicious.
We were asked if we wanted coffee in the lounge, but after moving there we saw that there was no space to accommodate our par of 8 so we had to move back to our restaurant table. Approx 10 minutes later we were able to move to the lounge where drinks were served. But ....... the coffee ordered for 4 was a pot which delivered just over 2 cups with a lot of sediment. The waitresses were not to be found so we asked the barman for our other coffee and if possible a coffee biscuit each. We were offered 2 small biscuits between 8 of us and told that it was management policy not to serve them. The Christmas chocolates which we had noticed on arrival had all gone ... and we were told that there were no more.
The bill was brought to us by the barman - a somewhat short, bearded, dark haired young chap with considerable attitude but unfortunately no charm or customer service skills. The first bill was incorrect - the staff had failed to count the dishes ordered nor had they noted that we had specified and eaten 1 under 10 yr old children menu option.
You can imagine that by now we were less than delighted with the Christmas dinner experience for which we were paying in excess of £200.
On explaining our grievances to the barman, his first retort was " I'm just a minion here, if you have a problem then put it into writing to the management ... I keep telling them but they don't listen". We told him to represent the whole restaurant team and not look to blame others when he works there too. "I'm not paid enough for that" , he said.

SO .... We paid up, left no tip and decided that you need to know what you could be in for. Food is very good, but this is not a slick, classy place for a special family occasion.
