We visited La Tartana entirely as a result of its excellent Tripadvisor reviews and first impressions were not altogether encouraging given its location alongside a busy main road which separates it from the main town of La Herradura and where parking can present something of a problem.
Having said that, this is where any perceived 'criticism' must end as what the helpful and welcoming owners have managed to create here is something quite special.
On a beautiful mid-September evening we were seated on the upper terrace of what, with its different levels, subtle lighting and carefully managed planting resembles some kind of secret and enchanted garden. Add to this the low level jazz or Spanish guitar music playing gently in the background and you may recognise all the ingredients required to create the oasis of calm which Hotel La Tartana is seemingly seeking to offer.
The service, provided largely by just one experienced and very capable waitress, was excellent and the food both original and superb. At a fraction over eighty euros for a two course meal for two including two rounds of drinks it isn't cheap. Unfortunately quality rarely is and make no mistake, 'quality', in the form of casual but elegant and sophisticated dining is what La Tartana is all about. If the hotel is anything like as good as the restaurant, and most reviews would suggest that it certainly is, then we will be looking for an opportunity to stay there very soon.
