“Jessica Beach Apartments -getting very tatty and need a full overhall”
Reviewed 10 November 2012

I have stayed at Jessica beach on numerous times but they are becoming more and more desperate for some money to be spent on them, A lot seem to be getting sold off, so you can get building work noise next to you. Also no air conditioning. The prices are increasing each year by a very large percentage and nothing is put back into these apartments, the balony's are not safe as all the concrete pillars are badly cracked, There was a huge crack in the patio door glass in the front facing bedroom and was sellotaped!!, cockroaches the size of your thumb on average about 6 every day. This time the stay was no where near upto scratch "Manoli" put some of the money back into replacing falling to bits chest of draws, wardrobes, lights in bathroom infact deco is 1970's The mattress on the double bed was that firm that I was aching so much sleeping on it, I was waking at least 8 times in the night in agony, My husband could not take any more of the aching from this Torture Mattress lol, he slept down stairs on the pull out bed. Yes the location is good but these houses have been so sadly neglected and now Manoli put a little back as some of your regulars are getting fed up.

We booked this appartment as were joining friends who have their own property in the village. We have visited the region regularly and wanted somewhere to act as a base.Whilst the appartment itself is typically spanish with the basic pine beds/cupboards etc - the location is amazing ! Directly opposite the beautiful beach and only a minute walk to the nearby selections of bars and restaurants it was ideal.they are doign building work during the winter months to some of the outer roads but this will all add to the beauty of this region.the lcoal supermarket stocks everything you need either to eat/drink at home - or the cafes/bars still remain affordable.everything is within walking distance.only spanish TV channels so may want to take some music !

Room Tip: We had bungalow 22 !

Jessica Apartments
We visited from 22nd to 29th May 2010. 2 adults and 2 teenagers (13 & 14).
The apartment was on 2 floors. Downstairs we had a living room with dining table, sofa, chair, tv. Also a kitchen with washing machine, cooker, microwave and a toilet.a small patio at the back provided somewhere to dry your clothes. An iron and ironing board was supplied, but not a hairdryer or a safety deposit box. We had a balcony area downstairs with a table and chairs. Upstairs we had 2 bedroom and a bathroom with bath/shower. The stairs were of a spiral design and I would not recommend for children or anyone unsteady on their feet.
The apartment is separated from the beach by a single road and the views from the balcony were excellent. Sunrise over the sea was particularly beautiful, and it was lovely falling asleep to the sound of the waves. The beach has nice sand and not too violent waves. They charged 8 euro for the sunbeds. I did try to snorkel but there is not much to see, although the water is clear enough. We heard that later in the season that more activities were available from the beach, e.g. jey ski’s but there was nothing when we were there.

You collect the key for the apartment from the Palmeras beach hotel, which is a good 10 minute walk away. The facilities at the hotel are available for people staying at the Jessica apartments, and we spent one day at the pool which is nice but very busy with lots of Spanish children making lots of noise.
We had to pay 20 euro deposit for a tv remote control, without which it is impossible to change the channels. The receptionist also allowed us to take a toaster without further charge although they did say that normally a 2nd deposit is required for the toaster. Our apartment was also missing a kettle when we arrived, the hotel provided one FOC and we left it in the apartment when we left. The TV channels were very limited for the UK tourist, very few in English, the only recognizable channel was the Disney channel.
It was easy to drain the hot water in the apartment, and it would generally run out before the 2nd person had finished in the shower, you would then have to wait for the tank to heat up again, or take a cold shower.
The local area has limited amenities. 800 yards to the right was ‘the strip’ of bars & resteraunts. The kids did like the flamingo café, we did not like the Madrid Pizzeria or La Terraciza (soggy fish & chips).
If you keep going straight on when you reach the end of the strip you walk through a square where the local market is held on Tuesdays (from 5.00 pm) and directly over the square was our favourite bar JP’s. JP’s offer, English beer & lager, good quality snack food, internet access, televised sport and some evening entertainment (pool competition, bingo, karaoke, millionaire quiz). The bunch of ex pats who hang out there and the staff made us most welcome and are a great crowd. One other place you need to know about is the olympia bar, resteraunt and swimming pool. It is directly behind JP’s, about a 5 minute walk away. The pool is beautiful, the food great and it’s a thourally nice place to spend the day.
Coming out of your apartment and turn left, at the end of the road you get to a big green staircase which will lead you up to another pizzeria, the bank and the local supermarket. The bank has a cashpoint machine, and can also change sterling (but at a lousy rate). The supermarket is a reasonable size and has everything you would expect.
For just the adults I think it would have been a very quiet and relaxing holiday, however the kids had nothing to do and were bored. During the week we took a trip out to the zoo (an hours drive away, but a nice day out once we got there) and to the go kart track (closer, and excellent but v. expensive, 17 euro for 8 minutes per kart for the 270cc models!)
Suitable for couples who want a relaxing quiet time. Not suitable for kids who need entertaining or anyone unsteady on their feet. I would go back, but without the kids.
What would I do differently? Changed my sterling in the UK. Rented a car. We paid a lot for our transfers from Alicante airport, about 100 euro per person for the return taxi trip, it would have been cheaper to hire a car for the week. Maybe gone later in the year when the resort would have been busier and there would be more to do. (the aqua park opened on June 5th for instance). Don’t buy the UK frozen bread at the supermarket as it was very expensive. Take a tin opener if you need one, as the one provided was hard work. Don’t use the sun beds on the beach.

We were three young people on this trip and had a good time with this hotel. Firstly, you will need a car for this location because its a long walking distance to bus station. Secondly, don't try to go to the apartments upon your arrival! the keys are at Palmera beach hotel who manages the apartments as well and they will provide you with a nice map for the apartment location which is complicated to find.
The apartments are clean and with good furniture and you have everthing from sharp knives to washing mashine for you stay.
Okay, there are some problems if the wather is not warm enough. The electrical heaters are supposed to warm the rooms, but if you sonsume too much electricity at once, the system will not tolerate the load and the electricity will go off. We had this situation and to save ourselves from a dark and cold night, we went to palmera beach hotel. They provided us with a suite inside the hotel with no extra cost. The staff at the hotel are generally kind and helpful.

One note, the oven in the apartments are working with Gas and you will need to have lighter or matches to turn them on.

We booked last minute through superbreak and got an absolute bargain! we had 4 days of lovely sunshine and 3 of rain in October.

Really great position just at the beaches edge. Basically furnished but clean and orderly with no major maintenance issues at all. The only downside were the amount of blown lightbulbs that greeted us and the odd Cockroach! - I should point out that there were 3 days of torrential rain before their presence, when it was sunny they were nowhere to be seen.

The terrace was the perfect place for dinner whilst watching the moon over the sea and our son thought the pirate ship on the beach was fantastic!.

We would and probably will return!

you will definately need a car to stay at this property as amenities were ok if you love beach pool holidays as there isnt very much else to do here, it seemed to be an area where the spanish go on holiday and visit at weekends which is no problem but gets very busy. the car has to be parked in the car park down the road if you can actually get a space at times it was a nightmare, theres a market every night which makes it even worse, you dont have to move your vehical any more but the van drivers like to park where ever they like even if it means blocking a few cars. its worth taking a trip to Torre de la horadada or even trying to find a place there as it was a little heaven on earth. The property is in need of updating a plug was hanging off the wall in our place and i wasnt keen on the spiral stairs with my youngest children. the bathroom and downstairs toilet have very large sinks which makes the area very small and quite cramped when in there. it has all facilities although oddly we didnt have a kettle and no pegs for the washing line so i bought some and left them for the next ppl in no. 12. we found it very noisey with drunks during the night also the wind woops up from the sea and makes quite a racket. wasnt expecting that as it was july and temps reaching 34 degrees. that comes to another problem no air con we all slept on the sofa bed as it was bloomin hot upstairs. if you use palmera beach pool a little advice is to buy your ice cream and drinks from the supermarket as they rip you off something rotten 15euros compaired to 4euros at supermarket over the week it adds up to a hell of alot, i recommend going restaurants at flamenco beach towards torrejeveca, park near burger king and walk round also you have supercor the supermarket there, the chinese restaurant was excellent and also a restaurant called The witchery kids eat free before 8.30pm i recommend the 24inch ribs there.
If you do hire a car beware of their car parks underground it was a tight corner to get out and a very very very steep clime out so much so we had smoke coming out of our engine and was spinning the wheels. but overall we did have a nice time and the kids loved it but wont be returning
