It is hard to find a cheap hotel central in Stockholm, so I searched around in the suburbs. And found a single room in Hotell Månen ("The Moon") at a special price. Very cheap, actually... under 300 SEK to be honest - around half the normal price.
Being familiar with south of Stockholm I knew Månen, but only from the outside, situated in a industrial area. The hotel is a former office building.
With that price, my expectations were low. But the room was clearly better than so. Some of the rooms (1 out of four?) is on the inside – so no window. But fresh and spacey enough. It even had a shower and wc, although it was stated that this budget room only had shared wc and shower.
The staff was friendly, the breakfast fine. Overall a clearly decent hotel at a good price.
One word of how to find it, though - it is by no means problematic, but if you are unfamiliar with the area it could be slighly tricky.
If you drive by car it is close to the Highway E20 south of Stockholm, but you won't see it from the road. You have to get in to the industrial area "Kungens kurva södra (south)".
With public transport you take the red Underground southbound, to station Skärholmen (around 20 min from city), then blue bus 173 (just to the left from the metro exit) another 10-15 minutes. It stops just outside the hotel.
A short walk from the hotel is "Heron City", with a few shops, a number of restaurants, bowling and cinema.
In Skärholmen there is a fairly big shopping mall.
