Excellent food very well priced and friendly service. Note rooms overlooking road can be very traffic noisy. Bedrooms are cold and in need of updating and refurbishment. They are generally tired and a little shabby considering the prices. We stayed in a 'Superior' room which was 'basic'. There was an unsighly plastic over-flow pipe sticking out into the toilet and the toilet fittings were discoloured. The room smelt of smoke and the radio alarm kept waking us up with interference from mobile phones. Our daughter found her 'Z' bed basic and uncomfortable. Overall a disatisfactory experience considering the cost and qulaity of the food.

Pleasant building overlooking well kept gardens. Interior decor very tired and in parts scruffy. This hotel must be the coldest in the country. We had a suite with separate lounge area. The heating was on so low we had been given a portable electric heater to use. No heating in the bathroom which was icy. The bed felt damp and the heating was totally inadequate for the size of the suite. The food in the bar was adequate, nothing special but the breakfast was very tasty. Would not rush back unless they were experiencing a heatwave in Grindleforth.

Although its situated adjacent a minor road, it has a "(minor) country house hotel" feel. The restaurant (& Breakfast room) has just been refurbished and is very smart, with french doors out onto decking with lovely views. The bar is also modernised & quite swish. Good range of above average bar meals.
We had a "suite": very comfortable room with separate "living room", our only niggle: why do these hotels skimp & have only low wattage light bulbs?.
Excellent fresh breakfast. Very helpful & kindly staff.
We'd go back. Good value. Just across the road at Grindleford station there is a wonderful walkers cafe. Huge chip butties etc. Good walks on the Derbyshire Edges are nearby.

We enjoyed our stay at the Maynard Arms, the room was very spacious (superior double room) but the furniture was a bit tired. The bathroom was very nice, especially the huge corner bath! The view from the window was beautiful, overlooking the impressive garden and countryside of the peak district. The food in the restaurant was well presented and very good value, and the service was also very good.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Peak District hotel and restaurant, The Maynard, was refurbished in March 2008 to become one of the best independent hotels in the Peak District. The building dates back over 100 years and during the refurbishment we have tried to respect this heritage whilst at the same time bringing the accommodation up to 21st century contemporary standards. The Peak District views from the garden, restaurant and bedrooms are stunning, and may leave you wondering if you’re miles from civilisation. Fortunately, as well as benefiting from a beautiful and tranquil location, The Maynard is very well located for visitor's from the outside world; The Maynard is less than 15 minutes from Sheffield by train (you can hop off at Grindleford station a couple of hundred yards from our door), and within easy reach of the M1, A57 Snake Pass and A61 by car. ... more   less
