Very laid-back atmosphere! Great for getting to know other people, the hostel offers kayaks free of charge, big black inner tubes to float around, delicious oven-made pizzas, wireless internet (though I forgot my computer), and a very nice garden with spectacular views. They have several BBQ pits, so reserve one night to have a BBQ with friends next to the lagoon! Beds were comfortable (stayed one night in dorm and two nights in private room), staff is friendly and prices are very accessible. Swimming in the Lagoon is amazing, so don't miss the experience! Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Room B and the lake-side cabin are most isolated and therefore the best

This place is filled with beauty. It has been a haven on our way. The people, the services, the amenities, the community. Lake Apoyo is advanced in their conservation & Monkey Hut is also in their honour system & services for travelers. They're are wild Howler Monkeys roaming in the canopy!!! Too many butterflies & birds to count!! The mineral lake is gorgeous & warm!
WE LOVE IT HERE!!!

Room Tip: There is one cabana. Get it if you can swing it. And two private rooms & two dorm rooms. But don't worry there are hammocks everywhere, the common eating area, allover the property down to waters edge. You'll love it

Visited Laguna De Apoyo after a disappointing stay in Las Penitas, asked a taxi driver to recommend a place to stay, he said Monkey Hut, drove us down the long windy road and wandered in and asked if there was any room. At first they said they only had two bunks in a dormitory style room which we weren't looking for, but after a little bit of persuading they gave us the Lake House ($60 approx). It was clean, immaculate, beautiful, very private and totally worth it.

Food was terrific, plenty of activities on the lagoon - kayaking was great, floating around on black tubes, water was the perfect temperature and clean, and the staff were very helpful.

Very highly recommended.

Be prepared to pay 3 times the prices in Granada for average food, dodgy unmaintained facilities and a $7 'entrance' fee. The laguna is a must-see but the Monkey Hut offers very little value for money.
