The hotel is set in a beautiful setting. Unfortunately this is not a 10 minute walk from the centre of town(as stated) but closer to 30 minutes. There are no sign posts from either the road or the coastal route and no lighting if coming back after dark. Rooms are simple, but clean. The problem for older guests is that the bed is a mattress in the centre of a concrete plinth, about 8inches deep and there is a considerable space between the mattress and the edge of the plinth. This makes getting in and out difficult and could lead to tripping at night as it is difficult to reach the light switch from the mattress. All forms of seating are flimsy and sparse, including the frail deck chairs. On the positive side, it is beautifully quiet at night, ensuring a good sleep.

The hotel is set on a hill, about 50m above sea level.

Rooms are set in small huts. Food was good.

Not much else to say... The hotel had everything I usually expect from a small Lodge (no wifi in room, no tvin room, no fitness) which is normal for such locations, what the hotel does have is cool decor, good amenities in bathroom, and friendly staff.

Upon arrival at the airport, met with garlands by our tour guide, we were driven to the hotel and met with welcome drink. The views are stunning as it overlooks the Ocean but as David M said we had to take our own luggage up to the villa/room. The room was basic with no really wardrobe but an open closet with a curtain as a door, the bathroom consisted of a shower which seriously needed upgrading and an outdoor open shower which also need serious upgrading. There were three of us and three single beds but they only had two mosquito nets on the two beds and when we asked for the third one, they only put it up on the second day and it smelled so bad that I did not open it even though I had so many bites from the mosquitos (even with DEET) The restaurant area and lounge areas are nice with free tea/coffee facility and that is welcomed after a long trip seeing the Moais. The wifi worked near the lounge but obviously not in the rooms. The breakfast was good - fresh juices and bread. The staff were very friendly but the hotel is definitely not a 4* standard.

Room Tip: we stayed in villa 15 which was fine

The TripAdvisor reviews back in May 2013 most accurately reflect this boutique experience. It cost a whopping U.S. $462 for a one-night stay here, and I paid it - after it, it was my birthday, and a private bungalow sounded nice, as did the swimming pool under the stars, and (best of all) the wood-fired hot tub under the stars. What a romantic fantasy! Well, since Altiplanico is NOT representing itself truthfully on its website, here is the reality: (1) the wood-fired hot tub was not only empty of water, but so rusted inside that one wouldn't use it even if it had been filled; (2) the pool had a film of leaves on top, and was so small that you could swim across it in 3-4 strokes; (3) the track lighting bordering the driveway had at least four lights broken, one of which had grass growing in it, two of which had exposed wires; (4) the deck outside the restaurant is so weak that we could feel it bend when walking on it, and I only weigh 165 lbs - the most dangerous section is closest to the bar area, nearest to the ocean - and the deck around the hot tub isn't much better; (5) the bathroom floor hadn't been cleaned; (6) the in-room paint designs were amateurish at best, though that was the least of its problems. Now some good news: (1) the decision to use white walls and light pastels throughout the room was a stroke of genius, since this makes it much easier to see the tiger mosquitos; (2) the Altiplanico brochure gets an excellent aerodynamic thrust, and when thrown on several occasions it successfully killed three mosquitos on my night there (folks, not a good idea to leave windows open prior to guest arrival in such a buggy area); (3) though the WiFi didn't work, in room or out, the computer did work, and we did have Internet access. It aggravates me when a hotel outright lies about its amenities, and presents itself as the lap of luxury in Easter Island when it's clearly NOT. And I especially feel sorry for the all-female staff we encountered there, because THEY clearly care about the place and seem to want to make the experience wonderful for guests. We were offered a half-bottle of free champagne because they were sorry that the hot tub didn't work and it was my main reason for choosing to stay there. They cooked a truly excellent (but slightly overpriced) dinner, which we did enjoy. They coordinated a shuttle service to the airport that was on time. And I have to concede also that some of the gardens and landscaping were beautifully design and THAT was well maintained. So clearly the problem at this Altiplanico is an owner who built a luxury resort with fine intentions five years ago, but is not investing money in keeping it up to basic operating standards, never mind luxury resort expectations. And again, this was not a $100 or a $200 experience - it was a $462 experience for two, plus $50 for dinner (a chicken dish for US $30, and a steak sandwich for US $20!). And, as nice as the staff was, here are two more kickers for this "luxury resort:" (1) we had to take our own bags up to our rooms without help, wheeling them a substantial walk uphill (same main walkway being dangerously dark and not at all lit at night), and (2) not one of the staff noticed that in our original reservation submitted by our travel agent that this was for "a birthday celebration." No "happy birthday," nothing. This was pathetic. So to the owner, should you care to reply to this, here is what I have to say: the truth is out. Fix your place. And all I want to hear from you is "We have issued you a $231 credit on your credit card since we clearly met less than half your expectations." Oh, and I forgot to mention one thing: much mentioned in this review - the hot tub, the broken outdoor lighting, the dirty bathroom floor - has all been clearly photographed by me, and I will be more than happy to addphotos to this review upon my return to America, since the Hotel Altiplanico on Easter Island provided me with one of the worst birthday experiences of my life.

Room Tip: My advise is to stay elsewhere - but do enjoy the restaurant, and be sure you have a 4 wheel drive v...

Really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. Having been presented with a garland at the airport followed by a complimentary cocktail in the bar of the hotel, we felt immediately welcome and comfortable. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and we felt the hotel and its grounds were ours to enjoy - which we did! Rooms are individual little cottages with a bedroom and attached bathroom. Spacious, unique, no aircon, but a fan and mosquito nets - great fun! Breakfasts were very good and we ate at the restauranr first night: Excellent meal, great atmosphere, very friendly staff and excellent food. Lovely open vista across sea from the hotel lounge area. We enjoyed returning from our Moai sight-seeing to sit in the lounge area with our complimentary coffees and take in the view.

We stayed at Altiplanico for four days, we were a group of 8 (four married couples). The rooms are actually separated small villas. The bed was good, they had a walk in closet, indoor and outdoor showers. Breakfast was fine, it even had home made pies. It was served at the main building, which had nice resting areas with great views of the Pacific Ocean. The pool was OK, but we didnt´n feel like diving as the temperature in this time of the year is not more than 25 degrees celsius. But we enjoyed the hot tub! It is a better idea to book in Booking.com or Expedia because you get better prices. We booked directly trough the Hotel web page and it was 20% more expensive than our friends who did via Booking!

Room Tip: Rooms 1 to 3 are very near the main building. the higher the number, it gets further.
