“Nice view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2014

This hotel is out of town, but very nice cabinas. You will need a car. The restaurant is very expensive even for Easter Island. The best way to explore this island is on your own anyway with a car/jeep. You do not need a tour. We did do a half day tour to the park, but that cost the same as a rental. Book the car when you get there as there is a large discount if you pay cash. The hotel has a nice view of the sea and a Moai. You can walk to town along the sea, but it will take about 30 min.

I have been to Easter Island twice and after much research this is one of the nicest hotels. Very tastefully decorated, charming, friendly but put to the acid test scored of an incident in which they were principally responsible, they showed no responsibility or compassion..

For aesthetic reasons they removed a security barrier into one of the huts . On entry first morning on the first day I put a 3 cm cut in my head. This impeded me from diving which was the principle reason for going to Easter Island. The hotel took every measure to not assume any responsibility.

Anyone with some ill will would have sewed the hotel. We just expected some compassion and a simple commercial gesture.... A basket of fruit.

Difficult to decode whether this is arrogance of sheer inexperience, but I would have give this hotel 4 stars without this catastrophic handling of and incident that if I had gone to the local hospital would have put 5 stitches in my head .

Sag and irresponsible incident for Altiplanico and in many ways for the Chilean Hotel industry.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here while on Easter Island. We had a little bit of apprehension when reading some of the reviews, and I can see why this hotel isn't for everyone. The biggest down side is the location as it is quite a ways outside the village. We were told you could walk to town. I tried it and as a fit hiker I could make it, but I wouldn't recommend it at all. We took cabs when we wanted to get into town, and while a bit inconvenient, it worked out fine. The upside of the location is that this hotel has a fantastic setting, at the end of a dirt road. Our room had a small outside area looking out over the ocean, it was fantastic. The hotel restaurant is one of the best places imaginable to have a drink, eat and watch the sunset. The breakfasts are very nice, and the food at the restaurant is very good, but the service is very slow and inattentive. (especially annoying when you need another drink). The front desk staff are very helpful and cheerful. The hotel could use a little sprucing up as the rooms are getting "tired". No air conditioning, but fans which work OK. For us, this hotel was very worthwhile.

Room Tip: Get a room on the ocean side.

We stayed in room 17. If you expect a 5 star with high speed internet ect, I would suggest going to an all inclusive in Cancun. If you want to go to see an amazing place; go to Rapa Nui, and stay here. The staff is very friendly, and the food and music are great. Costs for food are what you would expect for such a remote place as Rapa Nui. Mosquito spray should be used. We walked to, and from town a few times, it's a leisurely 45min. The front desk offers flashlights if you want one (one of the many helpful things they offered).

Lots of space in the room. Really nice shower.

We stayed for almost a week at Hotel Altiplanico on Easter Island because we wanted to explore this fascinating island to the full. Our expectations of this hotel were quite high, our travelagent described the cabins as luxurious and comfortable and the website of the hotel about the rooms: "All are spacious and comfortable opening to the view of the sea".
The cabin was spacious and we had ample storageroom for our clothes, the bathroom was good and the outdoor shower of good quality. The staff spoke English very well and the lounge was very comfortable. If only the view we had from the lounge and diningroom was the view we had from our cabin!...we looked upon the parkinglot, so we did not like to sit on our "terrace" (a small peace of grass with two unstable beach chairs). The other guests may have had the same problem with their view because it was often crowded in the lounge. Another reason could be that Wifi was only available in the lounge and diningarea. Coffee and tea are always available. We had dinner in Altiplanico 2 times and dinner is good but not cheap (30 dollar for maincourse without a sidedish). The breakfast was a little disappointing (for instance: no buns and we had to use 1 toaster at some point with 16 other people..)Too much expectations? The bed was a matras on elevated concrete floor but still very low so we had to "crawl" out of bed. Luckily there were two fans which we really needed because the climate is warm. Because of the heat and high humidity we expected a (small) refrigerator to keep our water and drinks cool. The hotel was also too far away from the town, at least too far to walk forth and back every day. It took us about 40 minutes to get to town. Our conclusion: Altiplanico was not what we hoped for....

To add this year :
the showers under the sky is a terrific experience
the walk to hanga roa by the beach is to do : moai, nicespots and it's not difficult. But don't expect to do it in less than 45 mn and more if like us you are fascinated by the statues...
Don't try to coma back by night as thete are not light the last 800 m.
Breakfast are always good and this year the maracuya's torte was more tha ngood.
On sunday night they oragize a special buffet and it's recommanded to eat here. It's good(5-6 different salads, a very good tuna carpaccio and a good cevice, a fish in papillote, 2 sorts of meat : pork and chicken, cooked in a traditional type and so tender tender and tender...
Rice and 2 types of potatoes, very good desserts, a musdical atmosphere...
Very good wines
We'll be back next year...

Room Tip: We preferr the higher cabins as the view on the sea is more attractive.

Just outside Hanga Roa on the hillside, in a beautiful garden with tropical flowers, are a series of small cottages, all painted with typical symbols of the island. Inside, a raised concrete platform serves as a bed frame. Mosquito nets hang from the side of the bed. The rooms are ensuite with a large bathroom that includes a shower with a glass ceiling so that you feel as if you are showering outside. A ceiling fan provides some air but in the late afternoon it can be warm. You can open the window to create a draft as long as you don't mind using a mosquito net.
The service was friendly and super efficient. Carolina and her colleagues went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible, including arranging for a rental car for the duration of our time on the island.
The restaurant is on an open terrace overlooking the sea and a single solitary moai. The meals were unfailingly delicious, especially the crab and shrimp salad. As a downside, the cost of everything on the island is high since it all has to be imported but it is worth it for the experience. A great place to stay.
