The hotel is located about 10 minutes walk from main street. The rooms are single storey of reasonable size with all usual facilities there is a pool and relaxation area. Breakfast was good. The hotel provides access to tours, riding, cultural evenings and laundry and what sets this place a notch above others is the excellent service provided by the owner - nothing is too much trouble. If there was one negative the pine and furnishings in the room give it a dated look and there was no free water. This hotel is an excellent good value choice on an expensive island.

Thank you for your review!

We're specialists of Easter Island and, thus, you'll get all the services and up-to-date information you need. You do not even need any guidebook - we even recommend you some better reading if you're further interested in Easter Island's history afterwards.

Guided Tours (with a group) and Private Tours (only for you) by Kia Koe Tour are our specialty. Book directly through our website and you will get everything tax-free due to laws that give the locals of Easter Island a special status.

We're sorry to hear that our material selections did not meet your taste.

Our architecture has been influenced by Scandinavian style. Natural materials include Oregon Pine in the rooms and dining hall.

Wood and stone give the hotel some character and personality along with art made of stone you'll find in each room (each one is unique piece of art by a local artisan). Same art decorates walls outside, as well.

We've carefully chosen only natural materials and avoided plastic, metal and concrete.

Additionally, all the construction materials, including Oregon Pine, has been imported from the mainland Chile - that means the impact to the Easter Island's environment has been reduced to minimum - an important aspect.

I picked this hotel due to the reviews I read here and it was indeed a good decision ;p Jarrko was helpful with all the emails I've sent from the bookings up to information on tours.

I think the price I got from the offer (room and tours with Kia Koe) were very good. The room was spacious (can accommodate 3), however the breakfast was adequate (juices, cereals, toast, eggs, ham, yogurt) but I'm ok with it. The hotel was very near to the airport but quite quiet, albeit a few chickens and dog barking, but that's the charm since I haven't heard/seen a rooster ever in Santiago! ;p . But then again, you don't stay at your hotel in the day ;p I suggest bringing or buying mineral water coz if you ask for the normal water, it tastes funny, due to the retreated sea water I guess.

The tours handled by Kia Koe was good and flexible. Was a bit hesitant to choose the guided tours at first as I thought they will have like 20 people but the most in my tours were only 3 to 7pax which was a good number. But I think this is due to the low season in May. We went to all the main moais and other interesting places (Beautiful!). The hotel is great enough to help me arrange a horse back riding with another place going up to the highest point in the island, Teravaka which has a beautiful view of the whole island. Watched the Kari Kari dance as well, a Rapa Nui cultural dance show.

Overall, the hotel is good. Of course there are cheaper hotels or you can do the tours on your own. But if you want a fuss free arrangements or have a limited time like me, then just take the package.

Thank you for your comments!

It's true that you always get the best price when you book directly using our website - especially with you want to book tours, as well.

We guarantee that Guided Tours (with a group) and Private Tours (only for you) are all provided by Kia Koe Tour - that way you can trust that the prices and the quality of service is the best Easter Island has to offer.

Since you visited us during the low season, you had our Special Offer but in case you're traveling with your family or friends, you'll get some extra benefits in case of Private Tours - even in the middle of high season.

Additionally, when you contact us directly, we might be able to fulfill special requests like an extra bed, baby crib etc.

We're efficient both on-line and on-site so do not hesitate contacting us!

We're also grateful for your comments regarding breakfast but, please, note that we avoid throwing food away - on this special island companies must act in a very responsible way - and we prefer to refill breakfast table instead of providing great quantities that would go to waste.

We also hope that you enjoyed the fresh ingredients such as seasonal fruits, eggs and omelets made by order and the variety of the sweets, breads, cereals, muesli, yogurt, cheese, ham, salami, natural juices (made of the same fresh fruits we offer), coffee and tea.

Thank you for your comments, even we wonder if you did mix our hotel with another property.

Hotel Puku Vai did open October 2010 and, thus, is one of the newest properties on Easter Island.

That means our hotel has modern, quality rooms that include a powerful A/C unit, free Wi-Fi internet, private bathrooms with bathtub and hairdryer etc.

This all combined with outdoors pool and tour services is something that not many hotels on the island are able to provide at all.

Additionally, since we're 3 blocks from the main street assures that your stay is peaceful - no traffic or discos.

Bikes are available on the main street, as well.

Jarkko and staff, together with the layout and ambience of this hotel made Puku Vai a great place to stay on this amazing island!
The room I had was very clean, large and just steps away from the pool & overlooking the carefully tended gardens ... so it was ideal.
Breakfast was a highlight, with the fresh fruits & eggs, together with mango juice and crepes giving a healthy start to each day's adventures.
Jarrko, thank you for wonderful attention to detail & assistance with recommendations etc. - it was much appreciated & I strongly recommend that intending visitors to EI/Rapa Nui book at Puku Vai without hesitation or concern.

Ignore the fact that the airport is only 500 meters or so away!
The 1 flight in, 1 flight out each day will happen while you are out exploring the enigma that is Rapa Nui

Thank you for sharing your experience with everyone, we truly appreciate your kind words!

Our buffet breakfast includes tropical fruits and, depending the season, we have mango, papaya, guava and pineapple from our garden. Additionally, we have avocado and banana trees but we also get fruits from local farmers such as honey melons and watermelons. Imported fruits we typically offer only for variety.

Additionally, breakfast includes variety of bread, cereals and muesli, cheese, ham, salami and cakes or pies prepared by our kitchen. Local specialty is a traditional sweet called "poe" that is made of bananas.

Our chef also prepares eggs and omelets the way you prefer.

Just like you noted, since we're specialist of Easter Island, we recommend that you benefit our experience regarding recommendations, directions and anything you can think of.

Tours by Kia Koe Tour are our real specialty and we warm-heartedly recommend them for everyone.

I was impressed with this hotel before I arrived, thanks to the excellent communication I had with Jarkko, the manager of the hotel. He was patient with my questions, and gave great suggestions for where we should go during the two full days we were on the island. I traveled with my husband, son of 12 years and my in-laws in their 80s. All of us loved this hotel-very comfortable, well appointed (large) rooms and baths. The grounds are beautiful, and the hotel is close to the airport and as others have noted, it is very quiet. Do realize this is a small town, and chickens are kept all over, so you'll hear roosters in the morning!

I'd also suggest letting Jarkko arrange tours through Kia-Koe. We thought our guide, Claudio was terrific. He grew up on Rapa Nui, and his father is descended from one of the 110 families that were left of the original inhabitants. Claudio really knows his stuff, and we were very happy to have had him for both the full and half day tours we took.

I think that if you are going to take the time to go to Rapa Nui, you should consider spending a little extra to stay in a beautiful, comfortable place with such a hospitable staff.

Room Tip: In this small hotel, you really can't go wrong. You might ask for a room on one side or the othe...

Kia Koe Tour is a top company on Easter Island. Their preference to use professional, local - mostly native - tour guides is what makes them to stand out.

Tour guides born and raised on the island have unique access to culture, traditions and stories coinciding and colliding with scientific facts and the latest discoveries by archaeologists.

The best way to book hotel with tours is to do it directly via our website.

Whenever you're traveling with your family and prefer private tours - just like you did - we automatically take all discounts into account. Family with 2 or more rooms benefit the fact that they share the same guide and the same vehicle.

Best hotel in Hanga Roa! Spent a week at this hotel in March and it was fantastic! The hotel rooms are spacious and modern with comfortable beds, air conditioning & good wifi connection.

Though what really made the hotel stay great was the customer service, the staff were knowledgable, friendly & helpful! They helped with everything, from car hire, to booking a dinner & show, to the not-to-be-missed Moai on the island, to special breakfast meal requests etc. nothing was too much trouble.

I really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely recommend it to other travellers!

But with only one flight arriving and leaving each day you'll be lucky to hear it. After all the horror stories in reviews of other hotels in Hanga Roa rest assured that you will be clean and comfortable in this one. My room was, and has been kept, clean; it is well maintained; it is wonderfully spacious; and like all rooms the patio doors open on the central garden and pool - but with only about 14 rooms this is almost always quiet. The air conditioning is quiet and efficient, which is important if you do not feel safe leaving the patio doors open overnight. There is a minibar but no kettle. Admittedly the facilities are a bit limited: for example the restaurant does not serve lunch, and does not serve dinner unless 6 guests request it the day before, but most guests seem to prefer to eat in one of Hanga Roa's many restaurants anyway. The reception staff are most helpful eg in recommending restaurants, and speak enough English. The breakfast buffet is limited but includes eggs cooked to order, ham, chorizo, breads, cereal, yoghurt, fruit - in short, something for everyone. As you hear chickens, and cocks crowing, from well before dawn, the eggs must be fresh! The wifi is a bit slow but that is pobably the local service. Tip: I had to change the email accont setting for outgoing email to SSL Security in order to be able to send emails from my smartphone. While close to the airport the hotel is about a mile from the town centre on level roads. If you do not want to walk the receptionist can get a taxi by phone within minutes, and there is a flat fee to anywhere in Hanga Roa of just 2,000 pesos. Weirdly the fare to the airport, closer at just 400 yards but too far to drag a case along the road, is more, but still very modest.

Hotel Puku Vai is a new property (opening was on October 2010) and the rooms include efficient A/C unit, Free Wi-Fi internet, bathroom with a bathtub and an outdoors pool - a unique combination on Easter Island.

Our restaurant is open on basis of reservations and, depending the season, we apply some restrictions. The reason is, just like you wrote, most of the guests are attracted by Hanga Roa, especially because of its Polynesian dance shows.

We have room service and the staff will serve you tea, hot water or, alternatively, give you a thermo full of hot water. Thus, kettle is not really necessary even it's absense is due to fire safety regulations.

Our Wi-Fi is a secure network, just like you noticed. Since all telecommunications of the island are satellite based, the speed is not the same you get in cities but, after all, our internet is as fast as it gets on the island.
