This is a good hotel, spotlessly clean albeit a bit dated in terms of design. However, this strangely enough kinda fits with the whole Easter Island experience - makes you feel as though you really are in a remote tropical island. Important thing is that the rooms are huge, clean and beds are comfortable. All rooms have double doors that open out to the pool area. Breakfast is continental style, nothing to shout about but perfectly adequate. Literally 5 minutes walk from the airport.

Pros: Great staff, very friendly and helpful
Cons: Bring right next to the airport, the hotel is a full 30 minute walk to "downtown" and decent food options. Can call a taxi or walk it, so it's a con if you don't like walking.

Room tip: Room 1 is right at the end and therefore quietest.

Thank you for staying with Hotel PUKU VAI and travelling with KIA KOE TOUR!

We´re happy you did pay attention to our high standards when it comes to cleanliness and the comfort of the Superior rooms of Hotel PUKU VAI.

Our Superior rooms are all 25 m2 including the private bathroom. The rooms of Hotel PUKU VAI are equipped with a powerful A/C. Since you might adjust A/C with your personal remote control, you have full control whether you wish to cool, heat or select any other mode (auto, dry and fan are also available) or, simply, turn it off when you do not wish to use it, at all.

Hotel PUKU VAI also have free Wi-Fi internet in all rooms and common areas.

Additionally, the rooms of Hotel PUKU VAI include TV, phone, minibar, safe box, a private bathroom with a bath tub and hair dryer.

The rooms also have a direct access to the outdoors pool surrounded by a garden full of exotic fruits and flowers. These seasonal fruits are offered for the breakfast and include pineapple, mango, papaya, avocado, guava etc.

This hotel is located very close to the airport (5 minute walk). It's a 30 minute walk or 2000 pesos (approx. $4) taxi ride to town, restaurants, and the ocean. The rooms are rather dark, beds not very comfortable, bathroom were clean, no complimentary water. Breakfasts are good and staff very friendly. Might want to consider something closer to the ocean and town.

Thank you for your comments!

We're sorry to hear you did not appreciate our location. The very idea of Hotel PUKU VAI is to be conveniently located, a bit off from the noisy central area of Hanga Roa but always easily accessible – only a short walk from anything you might need!

The closest supermarkets, pharmacy and good restaurants are basically around the corner (only 15 min. walk away) and since taxis have fixed rate in Hanga Roa (currently only CLP 2.000.-), moving around is not an issue.

All the best for you and your family!

We enjoyed our stay here. I thought the room was decorated in an interesting native style. I think some of the negative comments written by others were due to wrong expectations. Easter Island is not a place where you will find shiny modern new facilities like New York City. Yes, it is a bit of a walk from the main downtown area, but I felt like there was an advantage to that for me--most of the hotels in the downtown area seemed to be close and crowded with other buildings and people and thus not quite as quiet and secluded as this hotel was. Jarkko seemed to be very proud of his hotel and took pains to make sure that things were right. He was helpful with advice. He even ran over to the airport when we left to bring us a bag of items that he thought we had left in the room(turned out to belong to someone else-- but that was above and beyond for him to attempt to return it to us).

Thank you for your nice review!

We're delighted to know that you did appreciate our design choices.

Hotel PUKU VAI aims to provide an authentic Easter Island experience.

We prefer to avoid all the latest trends since we feel those trends are in a conflict course with the unique Easter Island spirit.

We wish our guests to be able to take a deep breath and truly feel that they have reached the most isolated location on Earth.

When you book your accommodation with Hotel PUKU VAI you might rest assured that we're a locally owned property. This also reflects to our subcontractors and recommendations: we recommend locally owned restaurants and our tours are provided by professional, native guides by KIA KOE TOUR.

As you did mention, we take very good care of your properties. Sometimes our guests leave valuables behind in lobby or garden and it's not obvious to whom things belong to. In most cases we're able to return them right away – even in some cases it means we have to take things to the airport. Luckily, the actual owner emailed us later and we mailed his lost things to him.

All the best for you and your husband!

I stayed at this hotel with my wife for three nights. The location is closed to the airport and we walked to the hotel after the arrival at the airport (7-minute walk with a suitcase).
The room was spacious and the king-sized bed was large, which were comfortable for us except the very slow internet.
There were variety of meals in the breakfast and egg meals were cooked as well.
The receptionist was friendly and helpful, and he booked a rent-a-car for us. The hotel introduced two rent-a-car companies and I selected 'Insular' which had automatic car at 65,000 Pesos (90USD) for 24 hours. The rent-a-car company brought the car to the hotel. The hotel has free parking space whose capacity seemed approx. 8 cars.
Anyway, this hotel is recommendable.

Thank you for your review!

Hotel PUKU VAI is one of the few hotels in Easter Island with free Wi-Fi internet in all rooms and common areas (also LAN connection is available in all the rooms). However, internet is not as fast than in cities but Hotel PUKU VAI provides a secure Wi-Fi internet.

Actually, the parking space is measured for 12 cars total but we hardly have more than 2 or 3 cars since most our guests book tours through us. Thus, rental cars are only a complimentary way of moving around.

All the best for you and your wife!
