After reading a recent review, we were concerned about the many problems at the hotel, namely the slow and non-responsive service / management. Perhaps the management took the comments to heart because our experience has been excellent. The management and all staff have been warm, welcoming and extremely helpful. The hotel design (from the restaurant, the lobby, to the gorgeous rooms) is wonderful. Service has been very good, especially Nick the manager, who was an excellent ambassador for the hotel. We highly recommend the Hangaroa Eco Lodge & Spa!

We loved this hotel ,design is fantastic, room size and amenities perfect
Free wifi at lobby, good breakfast ,free minibar (first stock),free coffe pods ,in room coffe maker, strong ac
Amazing sea view from room, great shower and in room bath tub
Location is perfect ,15 to 20 minutes walking to town and sea view all over
We only have one lunch there and was very good but town offers a very good array of restaurant with food far better than expected ,we ate at seven diferent restaurant during our stay all of them excelent paying us$ 35 pp for a full meal tip included
2 icecream shops at the pier and beach in town offers what we believe are one of the best we have ever had
Nature is strong in easter island my only bad comment of this hotel is that they must invest more resources in keep it clean as what is expected for a 5 stars hotel which clearly was made by dedicated owners architects and interior designers .i saw much more spider webs and bugs than expected
We payed us$ 500 a night for a standar room with sea view ,breakfast and evening cocktails included and worth every cent

Room Tip: Must have sea view room

Warm welcome, great rooms. Staff really helpful and manager always there to help.
Considering the hotel hadonly been opened recently very impressive. Travelling as a solo with Captains Choice really enjoyed my stay and would have been happy to stay longer.

Room Tip: Try to be nearer hotel reception area or otherwise a long trk to the bar!

We were very happy with our stay at the Hotel Hangaroa. We were greeted at the airport with a flower lei and taken to the hotel. Upon arrival the staff including the hotel manager were there to help us check into our rooms. Our rooms were fantasitic, we loved the ocean view, every morning we would open the sliding glass door and listen as the waves crash onto the shore. Breakfast buffet was good, service was great. After a day out touring Easter Island we would return and relax by the fresh water pool. Once again the staff would come by to cater to our needs.
Wonderful experience, we will stay at the Hangaroa when we return to Easter Island

Room Tip: Rooms on west side have great ocean view!

Having lived on a remote island in years past we understand some of the limitations when visiting a place such as Easter Island. However, we were very impressed with the quality of our lodgings, the freshness of the food and the general support offered by the staff at Hotel Hangaroa. The architecture is so interesting and the public areas of the hotel are very nice. It is quiet at night and the beds are comfy! The staff was very helpful in setting up a private tour for us that was catered to our exact interests and timing. We were especially appreciative that, when our departure flight was delayed by many hours, we were allowed to stay in our room and enjoy the facility instead of having to sit at the airport.

Recently revisted Easter Island after 23 years. What a difference. At the site of the old hotel all that remains are the two trees that used to be in the courtyard. And in its place is a magnificent hotel - wonderfully designed to reflect the heritage of Rapa Nui. The rooms are wonderful in design and have great patios looking out over the sea/city. At first it seemed a bit quirky (like being a guest of the Flintstones) but every luxury was taken into account including an expesso machine. Food was great and staff were very helpful. Since it was during their "start-up period" there were a few glitches with AC,etc. but the overall package is terrific. Highly recommended.

Hotel Hangaroa is a classic instance of “good hardware let down by bad software”. The design, facilities and location are almost flawless – while the management, pricing, bill handling and service are a nightmare. In almost 40 years of international travel I have never seen a worse-run establishment than this masquerading as a five-star hotel.

First, the good. This new “eco village and spa” hotel is by far the most attractive, modern, well-designed and well-located tourist accommodation in Easter Island’s town of Hanga Roa. It is a new single-level resort, built on the location of an earlier hotel, on the ridge of a point projecting into the sea at Hanga Roa. Rooms, restaurants, the swimming pool area, and extensive garden grounds have fine views along the coast, of the town and its hilly backdrop, and of the nearby Ahu Tahai archaeological site to the north-east. Air-conditioning worked well – essential in the summer heat-wave during our stay; bedding, towels, window covering and sleep quality were good; the breakfast buffet was unremarkable but adequate, in a pleasant setting.

The only hardware flaws we noticed and found irritating were, 1. No television in rooms, and 2. No wi-fi Internet in rooms (one cable connection only is provided in the rooms; we had three devices needing Internet connectivity).

The bad starts with pricing: double occupancy of rooms, even by a couple, is ridiculously charged at double the already high single rate - resulting in a breakfast-included room price of 350,000 Chilean pesos (USD$739) for our one-night stay. Even if well-run - which it is not - this hotel would not be in that price league.

We arrived in our room to find not only that just one pair of disposable slippers was provided - but also that these slippers were filthy with previous use, with dirt-blackened soles and worn-down toweling under the heels! And they had been resealed in plastic packaging and presented in the room as though new!

We had to wait half-an-hour for our baggage to arrive from reception. After I returned the dirty slippers to reception, we amused ourselves, while waiting for our baggage, with bonus nature study of Easter Island wildlife. This arrived, far more promptly than our baggage, in the form of almost two-inch-long cockroaches (Periplaneta americana) and other bugs crawling under the door from the garden onto the ground-level polished concrete slab floor.

Check-out was the pièce de résistance. It took half an hour, but as that’s how long it took for baggage to be brought from the room to reception, that was the least problem. After five minutes or so, a credit card slip was presented for my signature with the figure $739.000. Naturally assuming this to be 739 US dollars, I signed. No more than one minute later, I queried the full point and the three zeroes. Oops – the figure was 739,000 Chilean pesos (USD$1478), double the rate for our explicitly agreed and unmistakable one-night stay. Too late! With the speed of a casino croupier sweeping up a lost double bet on blackjack, the credit card transaction already had been lodged electronically.

Now began a further comedy of errors, working up the chain of mismanagement to the hotel general manager. How could there possibly be any difficulty instantly reversing the transaction error which the hotel had so instantly lodged? Oh, so sorry - the one hotel staffer with the code to enable a credit card transaction refund was off duty!

Was I offered a solution? No. I requested an adjusted hotel bill showing the refund owing, and declined to leave until given it. At the time of writing, I am halfway around the world and a week and a half away from Easter Island, yet Hotel Hangaroa still has not paid the refund due. In response to my several subsequent email inquiries, I have received only a series of unacceptable empty excuses from the hotel general manager. In the absence of any sign of reasonable and necessary action by the hotel to correct their mistake, I have asked my bank to launch a disputed transaction claim process.

Hotel Hangaroa is a hotel to avoid until the management, housekeeping and front office staff are replaced. It gets only two stars from us, solely for its hardware. Run as we found it, it is unfit to be a licensed tourism operator.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closest to reception to avoid long walks back and forth in the open. Best still - for...
