“A great place to eat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2012

We ate in Manolis quite a few times during our holiday.
Having been to a lot of Greek islands, we found the food here (and in Synaxis - another restaurant in the Old Village) to be the most traditional we've ever had.
The food was always excellent, my OH had rabbit stiffado (which we've not seen on many menus at all) and said it was very tender.
The pork chops were massive and really tasty, with Greek roast potatoes to die for.
I'd also recommend the pork fillet in Roquefort sauce
The local wine was good and inexpensive.
The service was very good and and the staff friendly.

If we go back to Agia Marina, this is one of the first places we'd head for.

“A Hidden Gem in Aghia Marina!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2011

We have been visiting Crete for the past 12 years, and having been regular visitors to Manolis over this period and we thought that it was about time that we told the rest of the world about this fantastic Taverna!

Manolis is situated in the Old Village of Aghia Marina, about a 15 minute walk up the hill from the bars and tavernas of the coastal strip. A friendly, family run taverna with a very loyal team working alongside the family makes Manolis a real delight to while away those balmy holiday evenings.

The menu offers traditional Greek dishes, and the Briam (give them 24 hours notice!) is to die for! All produce is locally sourced when possible, and the Rabbits that go into the Rabbit Stifado are snared rather than shot, so no danger of broken teeth on bits of buck shot!

Manoli whilst no longer runs the grill, he joins guests at their tables to chat which is always a welcome and enjoyable experience, whilst Yiannis (Manolis son) and Manos (Yiannis elder son) ably assisted by Christa make sure that all the guests needs are properly catered for.

You will never be rushed away from your table, and on a couple of nights on our last visit we arrived to eat at about 20.30 and were still chatting to Yiannis over a seemingly never ending supply of Raki at gone 01.00 the next morning!

Would I recomend Manolis? Well, what do you think!
