We stayed here for a week mid June and had a lovely stay. The staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for you, and we were given a free 10 minute massage in the spa on arrival which was a nice bonus! We were only bed and breakfast but the breakfast was really good, there was so much to choose from and all was of a high standard. The room we had was quite basic but it was nice and spacious.
I loved the view from the pool area overlooking the sea, it really is beautiful! However, we didn’t really go to the beach directly outside the hotel as the beach was quite stoney to walk on and the slippery rocks on the edge of the sea made it difficult to get in and out. If you walk up the beach to the right for about 10-15 mins you’ll find the sand is a lot softer and the sea is a lot clearer. As a beach person I was disappointed with this but it’s not personal to the hotel itself. The location of the hotel itself is okay, we found Agia Marina to be extremely quiet nothing is really going on after 10pm, although this could have been the time of year. Platanias is the other nearby resort and there are more bars and restaurants that way.
As a young ish couple we found it quite awkward round the pool as it was very quiet, I would have liked there to have been some music on or something to liven it up slightly, I read on a review that it was loud here but it definitely wasn’t!
All in all we had a good time here and if you’re looking for somewhere quiet and relaxing then this hotel couldn’t be more suitable! :)

I have been to many hotels, not just in the Med but across the world and I can honesty say that the staff at this hotel made the difference and I can understand why so many people choose to go back, for the two weeks we were there we became more than guests we became part of their family and for this type/size of hotel that atmosphere we found unique. As for practicalities- The rooms were airy, clean and well maintained with tea/coffee had quiet air con and a fridge. The hotel provided sunbed towels which could be changed daily at the pool bar between 09.00- 13;00. The food was excellent with good choices and variety. Breakfast is buffet and evening meal if you go half board is restaurant style with four courses and of 5 star quality. As we wanted to eat out the hotel did allow us to have a lunch rather than a diner- this is not normal practice and we did ask in advance- again the quality of the service and food at the pool bar was very high. The entertainment of an evening was in keeping with the relaxed style of the hotel but if you wanted a more lively evening there were plenty of bars in easy walking distance. As for the immediate area - lots of supermarkets , bars and restaurants within walking distance, If you want to go into Chania a taxi is around 12-15 euros a bus service runs every 30mins until 22;30 ish is around 3euros -but can be a bit of a squash but great value. Drinks are around 8.50 euros for cocktails, 4-5 for beer and 3 for soft drinks- at most places if you stay you get a complementary Raki and a snack . The beech - mixture of sandy places and pebbles, you do need to be a little careful getting in and out as there are rocks but generally its fine- if you need "sea shoes" there are plenty of shops and they cost around 8-15 depending on type .Hotel Location - 1-2hrs car journey to well popular beeches of Elafonissi & Falassarna but if you go there make sure you go early as they do get very busy after 12.00. another at worthwhile visit is to the lake Kourna ( about an hour east ) where you can hire a paddle boat for a few euros and see some of the local wildlife- if you go take some bread if you want to attract the fish and terrapins .More locally to the hotel there are an number of places where you can get 1or 2 hr boat trips around the small island of Theodoria where you can swim and snorkel . My overall view on this hotel nice location, relaxing, high quality hotel with excellent facilities and food with exceptional 5 star staff .

Room Tip: all rooms are quite and each have there advantages- lower floor is easy access to the outside area, gym, spa

The hotel was really well managed, all staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and the atmosphere really relaxing and calm. The hotel is adults only, which was not a criteria for us, but ended up being a good choice as it meant a lot of quietness by the pool. The breakfast buffet was really good, the rooms were clean and quite nice in general. The location at Agia Marina is pretty ok, but I would say that if I could now choose, I would probably prefer the village of Platanias, as there were a lot more restaurants and bars around that area. But depends what you're looking for in your holiday.
Anyway, I definitely recommend this hotel to all couples and/or adults travelling to Chania.

What a wonderful, relaxing week we had at Thalassa Beach Resort. The highlights:
* Nice room with balcony overlooking the beautiful pool and sea.
* Excellent breakfast choices, something for everyone including Cretan specialties. I especially enjoyed the small apple pies and Cretan mountain tea.
* Gorgeous super-clean pool with swim-up bar.
* Plenty of sunbeds on the beach and grassy area. Never had a problem finding one in mid-June. WiFi is great at the beach.
* Location near plenty of restaurants and cafes. Some favorites were Meraki, Rustic Garden and Palirria.
* Friendly, professional staff made us feel welcome every day.

We have stayed at much larger resorts and wondered if Thalassa might be too small, but it was perfect. No fighting for sunbeds or breakfast tables, and lots of room in the pool. A lovely boutique resort experience. Highly recommended!

We booked a week at the hotel through TUI. We did choose the hotel as it was a "couple hotel" without kids. The atmosphere at the hotel was brilliant, the whole staff did what was possible to make a pleasant stay for us, might happen that the head waiter during the day overplayed a bit.
The breakfast choices should definitely satisfy all guests. We had dinner some evenings at the restaurant, and the menu had a good variety with high quality
The room was clean and had a size that was bigger than we are used to for example at the Canary islands at the same hotel standard.
The pool area and beach area had enough sunbeds for all guests. The beach at Agia Marina has rocks near land, so you have to be careful if the see is rough. We had a couple of windy days, and I did not dare to go out in the sea as the waves were tough.
All in all, a very pleasant stay, and I will surely return to the hotel if we choose to go to Crete an other time
