We stayed in the Anchor Inn, Beer over the Easter period and had a really great time. The hosts, Mr and Mrs Hills (Phil and Jan) are so professional, polite, helpful and friendly and it filters down to all the staff. We have stayed here several times and it just gets better. The fresh fish, cod, hake and John Dory were meals to die for and there is an amazing choice for breakfast. The room we had was clean, bright and had a lovely sea view. We look forward to an extended stay in the summer. A superb inn. Well done.

The greatest regret from my recent trip to England was that I didn't stay in Beer and in the Anchor Inn a bit longer than the one night I was there. There exists this notion of old English pubs as warm, comfortable and welcoming oases on dark and stormy nights. The reality unfortunately is that too often English pubs are just run down creaky old pubs. But not this one. The room I stayed in was of a better quality than you tend to expect from pub accommodation. A big fluffy comfortable bed in a nicely furnished room was so welcome after a longish drive to get there that day. The location is sensational overloking the beach and ocaen and the meal I had in the restaurant was much better than I had hoped for. I stayed after dinner in the lounge bar for a drink or two among some locals and it was a wonderfully entertaining evening. I even purchased an autographed book of poetry from the "Bard of Beer" - the local poet.

I'm from Australia and this type of hotel is quite foreign to us here, but it's the sort of thing we look for but rarely find in an old English pub. A terrific hotel in a location second to none in a village that you just want to stay in.

Room Tip: Make sure you keep enough time to take a walk on the beach or the coastal cliff path. It is sensati...

We booked late - so we only able to get the last available room (number 2) which wasn't en-suite, but had it's own bathroom just across the corridor, which didn't prove to be a task at all. Small room, but with a lovely view of the bay. Free WiFi internet access, Great friendly staff (altho the manager appeared 'officious' and 'grumpy' as he worked around the pub during the day) always happy to help. It must be great to live and work in Beer, the fishing village is a quaint location. Pebbled beach, with working fishing boats and flourishing sailing community and loads of character. This was my third visit - still enjoy the walks down to the beach morning, noon and night - something always interesting to see going on.
The Anchor Inn was perfect for our stay as we later went on to visit River Cottage (10 min drive).
Nearby Lyme regis is well worth a visit.

The hotel's position, and the views, are spectacular.
The village of Beer is vibrant, quaint and endearing, all at the same time!
The ensuite room was spacious, immaculate, and comfortable.
The bar was welcoming, well stocked and friendly.
We will definitely revisit this wonderful place.
The only negative comments that I would make would be that the restaurant
service on the Friday night could have been a little more attentive to thirsty customers
and less to clearing vacated tables and the scallops on the Saturday night (very busy)
could have done with a bit less bacon and cooking. Neither of which would stop me going
back!!

Room Tip: Room 7 was roomy, lovely bathroom, and offered a great view of the beach.

We stayed at The Anchor over the New Year peiod and enjoyed another wonderful stay.
The staff are friendly and helpful and in particular Jan, Phil, and Chelsie make the stay very enjoyable.
Our rooms were kept clean and tidy and we enjoy the sea views.
Food is excellent with a varied choice, but always lots of different fish dishes on offer.
We highly recomend this hotel and the village of Beer in Devon.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

My husband and I have just returned from a two night break at the Anchor Inn, Beer. Stayed in room 5 on the top floor which had fantastic views of the harbour. The food is excellent and my husband loved the Fish Chowder so much he had it two days running. Parking might prove a problem in the summer months but was fine for us. The first night we had to sleep with a light on as we couldn't find the switch. We didn't realise that the light turned off only when the wardrobe door is close tightly! Staff were friendly and professional and we had a lovely break and will definitely return. Thank you.
