Sorry Anchor, we usually love you, but this was not good. Our daughter (13) was ill in the night after eating your sausages, and my wife was also ill, she had taken half a sausage. Son and I were fine (no sausages).

Well this can happen to even the best places. But we are measured not just by our mistakes, but by how we react. My wife came into the pub next day to inform you (not really complain, but make you aware) and you took her number. Nothing. You did absolutely nothing. Not even a simple call to apologise. That is where you really let yourself down, and what prompted this review.

It was with reluctance that together with my husband, we left the Anchor Inn after a short break at the end of March.
I would reiterate all, and more, of the praise that has already been heaped on this humble pub.
The only thing which I feel is that as more people learn what a gem this accommodation is, it will make it harder to make a reservation.
Comfort in the rooms, sea view, exceptionally friendly staff, great food in the restaurant. Free wifi that worked!
We ate dinner, an exceptional choice, with a fish selection which was changed daily - moules were to die for!
We planned to eat elsewhere sometimes but after dinner on our first night we took a stroll up the high street and were shocked to find that nowhere was open. Except the Dolphin Hotel and that was empty which made it void of atmosphere. Even the Indian was closed and it was only 21.30.
The parking charges in the main car-park behind the Dolphin hotel, changed on 1st April,: £6 per 24hours, payable by phone, card or cash, take a bag of pound coins!
The small free car park next to the hotel is limited to 1 hour, no return for 2 hours, up the hill you may stay for 2 hours, no return for 2 hours.
Alternatively, you can park for free in the car park at the back of the village, approximately 5-7 minutes walk.
The bus service from Beer Cross, (next to the last shop at the top of the village), X53 west to Exeter, or east to Poole. Its called the Jurassic coast bus because of all the seaside resorts it calls into on its way. Look on Google for times, when we were there the morning times which suited us were: 09.57 & 11.57, 2 hour later!
Using the bus ensures that you do not lose your parking spot in Beer village, and have to hunt for another space on your return, also alleviates the necessity for expensive parking wherever you go.
I hope this helps.
Would we go there again, yes, yes, yes!

Excellent place will definitely return one of the most beautiful places (beer itself) I've ever visited.
The anchor inn itself was a nice place to stay and have live football and good selection of drinks at reasonable prices!

Our 2nd visit in 6 months - this time in cool, sunny February. The Anchor Inn did not disappoint - it was just as we left it, apart from the lick of paint on the outside walls which did it justice.
We enjoyed once again excellent breakfasts (plenty of choice), exceedingly good Abbot ale (quite a few!), much the same staff and manager Jim (always a good sign) and a fabulous relaxing five nights (again) - seriously good value for money.
We lunched on freshly fried fish from the local chippy (delicious) but made the mistake of eating at the local Indian one evening where the food and service were terrible.
However, we knew we could rely on very good evening pub meals at the Anchor so that's where we ate on the other evenings.
We cannot rate the Anchor highly enough and we shall return when summer's over - can't wait!!

Friendly, attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was clean and comfortable & we had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend break. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and freshly cooked. Our room had a sea view & although our bathroom was separate it was just accross the landing & was for our sole use. Fantastic location & very good value for money.
