We had a lovely two nights in Beer around the Easter break.
The Anchor is one of a 'typical' 'Old English Inn' chain, in that the menu is well known from other stays ... except they do local specials; and those seem to be more adventurous and better.
Our crab salad was great ... and I don' t really do salads when dining out!
Good 'all-in' breakfast menu choice
A buzzy and busy place, with the inn and beer garden set above the beach of the lovely village of Beer. A great starting point for fantastic cliff and sea walks.
Our room didn't have an en-suite [late booking] but even that didn't detract from a perfectly adequate stay. Perhaps the room was a bit small, but it is an 'old' inn but it is also in need of a bit of spruce-up, with peeling/broken plaster work [especially at close to on £200 for two for a two night B&B... and no Tesco Point Vouchers here as with most other Old English Inns, but it was Easter!]
Helpful and friendly staff.
If Beer was not such a lovely place then perhaps the Anchor Inn may have to up their game a bit! ... but it is and the competition is pretty limited.
Hope they stay on top of the game, and aren't slipping into corporate complacency... they deserve toMore
