“Relaxing Weekend break”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

The Anchor Inn was just what my wife & I wanted for a long weekend break. Not flashy, but welcoming and homely, and as close as you can get to the beach for a place to stay in Beer. All the staff were really friendly, smiling, and willing to help in any way. Breakfasts and dinners were great (the Eggs Benedict in particular for breakfast was really scrummy), and Otter beer from the bar slipped down nicely.

Only one drawback in that there is no on site parking. However, there's a big car park at the top of the hill (about 5 mins walk) which costs £4 for 24 hours (at time of writing).

Room Tip: We stayed in the Jack Rattenbury room (room 5), which is a good size and a decent sized bathroom too...

My husband booked the Anchor Inn for a weekend break for our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. Great journey there by car with wonderful scenery. Arrived approx 2pm and shown to our room which was on the top floor (there are only about 8 rooms at the Inn) The room was wonderful with views of the beach, stunning. Light & Airy and spotless with a large bathroom with shower, plenty of hot water and clean towels every day. Bed was so comfy we slept blissfully on our 2 night stay. Very quiet location even though there is a pub down stairs. Great atmosphere in the bar and everyone is very friendly and meet some really nice people. Beer is very quaint and just a few eateries and 2 pubs & 1 club (which we did not have time ot go to) We took a walk to Seaton on the Sunday which was a couple of hours but stunning views, seaton was very quite. Had some lovely meals in Beer and the breakfast at the Anchor was a feast, so much choice, is probably one of hte best breakfast menus I have seen in a very long time. I will be going back to Beer that is for sure.

Room Tip: All rooms have seaview so its perfect.

Even with our few negative comments we were happy overall with the hotel and very friendly staff and its in a great location.

These are our comments and observations about our stay.

We had a mid week break in top floor en suite room with sea view, great hotel for our needs, reception area and booking in procedure could be better. Room clean as was the en suite....safety window stay in bathroom broken/removed....bathroom needs blinds or curtains.....you could see quite well into the obscured glass window from the hillside opposite. (we tested on first evening) Our bed creaked and rocked ....had to put cushion behind bedhead. Menu was good but not all items available over the two evenings we ate in. Service and quality of food excellent as was the breakfasts. The breakfasts were only spoilt by the bar area being cleaned at same time.....noise of hoovering drowning out canned music.......on the second morning smell of cleaning fluids and bleach coming from bar area, this could all be done earlier or after breakfasts are served. Car parking expensive and some way from hotel, not at ease leaving luxury car over night in public car park.

Room Tip: Biggest is best....sea view a must.

I stayed at this Inn for two nights with my partner and had the fortune to have a room on the top floor which overlooked the slipway to the beach.
The room was clean with good facilities, likewise the bathroom, with a drencher shower which did the trick.
It has a great location in the village with parking not too far away in a large pay car park, which I found very safe.

The Inn and its staff were all very pleasant and amenable with great interaction from the once seen never forgotten manager Jimi..

Food was excellent and having eaten two meals there cannot say, unlike a previous comment, that the mashed potato was instant, it was very much real.
Breakfast is both buffet style starter, cereals, juices, pastries and fruit, with a hot course taken and cooked to order then served at your table.

All in all a very satisfying experience, to be repeated. A location I hasten to recommend, although it may cause a lack of rooms for my next stay.

I stayed midweek on a short break, I found the Anchor Inn, Beer very pleasant and welcoming.
I was very lucky to get allocated into one of their en-suite rooms which had a seaview, the bathroom was reasonably large with a very nice hot shower.
The staff are friendly and the breakfast was good and very well presented.
I chose the Lamb Shank for dinner and it was freshly cooked and very well seasoned.
Not only I enjoyed my meal but both the staff and the locals were friendly.
I certainly would return and reccomemend to all.

Had a i night stay with friends in February and we had a superb stay. Hotel was clean with rooms looking out to sea, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Nice large bar area. Breakfast was excellent with cereals, full English, toast fruit , yoghurts cakes etc. Nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend this for a stay and Beer is a lovely village Rachael, Mark and friends from Bristol.

Room Tip: all rooms seem to have seaview they have 1 superior room and 8 rooms in total so they get booked qui...

Was at the Anchor Inn on Tuesday night the food was really nice the only down fall was that they use instanst mash which is awful and powdery why cant they use proper potatoes. There is no need these days to use instant surely if there is any left over it could be used in fish pie or shepherds pie. The service was really good and staff very friendly
