“Lovely romantic setting , expensive”
Reviewed 8 November 2013 via mobile

We both had steak. Really good but they need to give you a steak knife! I had soufflé to start, really nice. My husband had scallops. The dessert we chose the cheese and biscuits for £14.95 between us. This was way over priced. Setting is really lovely, romantic. I thought it as expensive of what it was but good.

First visit and wont be the last. Excellent service in beautiful surroundings. The Sunday lunch menu was delightful. Very warm welcome from staff, cannot fault the cuisine and service was brilliant. A real Sunday treat.

We only called in for a drink whilst 'passing through' on a rainy Friday afternoon, but we could easily have stayed all holiday. What a wonderful place! Fabulous garden sculptures, and a lovely mill stream. Meals can be eaten in a variety of places around the hotel - garden, verandah, patio or a lovely heated terrace, or inside, of course. There is also a beautiful dining room for family functions The hotel is so cosy, and we were made to feel very welcome by the friendly bar staff, who brought us newspapers to read by the gorgeous (real) log fire. Couples were checking in for the weekend, and I was so jealous!!

This is a beautiful old mill with lovely gardens and mill stream in a peaceful country setting which has been splendidly developed in recent years to provide the highest quality of dining and accommodation. It is extremely unlikely that anything would disappoint even the most discerning of guests. The menu and wine list comprise both imaginative and traditional choices, catering for probably all tastes. The service is excellent and decor, furnishings and accommodation are in my opinion faultless.

Yesterday we had a wonderful Anniversary Celebration for Friends. It could not have been more perfect (apart from a few wasps !). Delightful setting beside 2 mill streams, drinks wandering round widespread gardens with great sculptures and art, followed by a delicious lunch. The duck was mouth watering and the Chocolate Roulade really distinct.

There are many country pubs, inns, restaurants and boutique hotels, this one is one of the best I've ever been to. For me the main attraction was the staff, from the owner to the pot washer, every one of them will accept you, stranger or not, every one of them will have a smile for you, every one of them will chat to you. It's rare to find such a place that's not got a clique, and if there is one, well, you're welcome to join!

Great beers, lagers and spirits and if you fancy some nosh .... It's tasty posh nosh at very reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

I will be returning, maybe even will become part of the furniture, worth staying sober for if you're driving and if not, well, if they've room, stay the night!

Not to be missed.

Based on a previous experience, we booked for mid week lunch with two friends. The set menu was not what we had expected so three of us settled for what was basically a Ploughman's and soup of the day. The soup, butternut squash was excellent. The Ploughman's consisted of a small piece of brown baguette with an equally small piece of cheese, served on a board.

Very few Ploughmen would have lasted an hour on the portion size, the bread for some reason was toasted. No garnish, no pickle, that was it. The other party member had ham, eggs, and soup which was served immediately whilst for some reason we had to wait for our soup. The waitress expressed surprise when we enquired why the soup hadn't been served to all at the same time.

Our Cairn terrier has her food served into a nice clean bowl, at The Mill ours was served on a board, which I cannot accept has the same standard of hygiene as a freshly washed plate.

The service was the same standard as the Ploughman's. Would we go there again? No
