We visited Bath for two days on our way down to Cornwall. The village of Bathford is lovely, very peaceful and green. We arrived to the sounds of a quintessentially English village cricket match being played nearby, the sound of the ball on the bat and polite clapping carrying across the village.

The cottage is very pretty, roses around the door and old stone walls. Our welcome was a little cool, a call to say we were on the way elicited just a grunting response, whilst our arrival was greeted in a very perfunctuary fashion.

The room was spacious and clean, with a lovely view of the village but our en suite had a large hole taped up with some kind of duck tape and painted over. This was directly above our heads in the shower and made us wonder whether to expect a deluge from the room above.

Breakfast was plentiful, a particularly nice touch was the huge bowl of fresh fruit salad every morning....great start to the day!

Some fellow guests were disgruntled to arrive with no directions on how they could pick up a key (eventually being told it was left out the back on the windowsill for them) so perhaps care should be taken to get as many details before your arrival and call when you are not too far away.
