Our group of four couples and one single person were booked into this hotel from last October (2013) for Saturday night (29thMarch) for dinner bed and breakfast arriving in the afternoon from different areas of Scotland, for afternoon tea of tea/coffee and scones before our dinner in the evening. The person who made the booking received a phone call on the Saturday morning at 10.15 a.m. to say he (the manager) was looking forward to welcoming us all on Sunday for this arrangement!! When our friend told him it was tonight (Saturday) we were booked in for (five rooms) he was told there had been a double booking even although our friend had been in touch with the hotel a month ago to confirm arrangements. The manager apologised and said all he could do was try and book us into another hotel. This "other hotel" ended up being the Royal George in Perth who could only take us all for bed and breakfast - it was so busy we couldn't even have a cup of tea or coffee in the afternoon and certainly not dinner! We ended up going to a restaurant in the area for our afternoon tea and then an Italian Restaurant in the evening who were very helpful and could fit us in for our meal at 8.30 pm. So as anyone reading this will understand, especially a similar review in January this year, we were all very disappointed. I know there have been a lot of good reviews and only wish we could have been one of them!! Something must surely have to be done about this hotel's booking system!! This hotel gave a compensation amount towards our stay at the Royal George Hotel in Perth but to be told of the double booking on the morning of the event was unbelievable. It was a talking point for our "Reunion Weekend"!!!

Room Tip: We didn't get a chance to give this hotel a rating!

Just spent 1 night for eve meal and breakfast and wish we could have stayed longer. We were in room 11 which had a roll top bath. Everything was spotless and food and service outstanding! Can't wait to return

Husband and I had a two night stay, B&B and after eating there the first night, chose to eat there again the following evening. Food good, decent sized portions, reasonably gastopub fayre. Service excellent in the restaurant as it was everywhere else in the hotel - all staff exceptionally professional and helpful, without ever feeling intrusive. Breakfast offered good choice and more than we could manage - with snacks to store for rucksacks for walking during the day. The whole stay was more or less a 10 out of 10, certainly in terms of enjoyment, though perhaps sliding to a 9/10 for two little reasons: 1) Husband complained bitterly that his bread and butter pudding was actually a bread pudding (?!) and 2) the bedroom needed updating (though was clean and had all we could want and more in terms of beds, size, comfort, cleanliness, smellies in the bathroom, etc). Oh, and maybe another point lost for realising how poor the between-room sound-proofing was when husband was woken by next door's guests (ahem) getting friendly (I use earplugs so didn't bother me!). Small quibbles. We definitely want to return!

From the moment we opened the bedroom door to the time we closed it on leaving we were taken away by the place. The room we had (11) was excellent to say the least. The food was exceptional and we will certainly be returning at the earliest opportunity.

Room Tip: Room 11 was tip top although we didn't see any others.

After a decent Sunday morning hunting out castles in the area (Campbell Castle is a great spot in the area), we decided to try the hotel Restaurant for a spot of lunch.
Great choice of local foods, a decent child's menu. We didn't make a reservation, but this did not seem to be a problem.
Service was great, the food, although a little higher priced for this type of establishment was extremely enjoyable. I opted for the roast beef, while my wife and eldest son had the fish and chips, and the wee one had pizza and chips.
Maybe I was just hungry, but 20 mins later realised I had not said a word, as I finished my main.
A word of caution, the desserts are great, and good sized portions. Make sure you save some space, the chocolate tart was one of the best, although I was extremely envious of the hunk of sticky toffee pudding my wife enjoyed.
great meal, great service
