I ate here with a very large group when I attended a conference nearby - always a challenge - but the friendly service never wavered. The food was some of the best I've eaten in a pub (and I've been to a lot of pubs): fresh, homemade, well-seasoned, nicely plated. The steak and ale pie was delicious, with not a whisper of fat or gristle to be found; the veg was crisp and bright; the apple and blackberry crumble was the right mix of sweet and tart - and I would gladly take a bath in the silkily smooth custard.
