“short staffed?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

Went to a dinner dance at this venue. Excellent food and venue, just seemed let down by the lack of staff and hence resultant service:
- Inordinate wait at the bar for service
- inordinate wait to bring the food to the tables, with just one small team to service all the tables
- inordinate wait to be served the after dinner coffee, with just one small team to service all the tables
- no alterntive to the (stewed) coffee offered. Wife asked for mint tea which never arrived
- lack of cloak room - eventually left coats at reception after wasting several minutes trying to find a simple coat rack
All a symptom of a lack of staff necessary to cope with the event. The staff themselves were very friendly and courteous - just seemed a lack of them.

I would otherwise recommend the venue for corporate events, but unfortunately it doesn't appear geared to be able to cope as it appears unable to react to and increase the necessary staffing levels as appropriate. Shame really, as I otherwise really enjoyed the evening.

There was a group of 14 of us who had a stay spa as part of a hen weekend, everything was great. The spa was lovely, the hotel room was excellent and the food was amazing, especially our 3 course dinner which we had as part of our package.

During our stay some of the party couldn't have their treatments as a member of staff was sick, the spa staff were very accommodating providing us with complimentary champagne and refunding the guests who didn't get one of their treatments. We were also able to swap and change the treatments between us because of the circumstance.

I will certainly visit again!

Went with a Bessie mate to the spa for the night. Exc welcome. Room small but not in there for long. Great bar for catch up , exc gym opposite. Meals were exceptional...loads...self service...beautifully presented...such respectful services. Many guests in bath robes at lunch tables. Spa was good, book treatments in advance, very friendly. We didn't eat til 8 which allowed time to recover. The lake looks great lit up at night apparently. We enjoyed sitting by the lake having a coffee in the sun...can t order that though!
Thank you Wyboston Lakes

Room Tip: Book early to get a good room. Walking upstairs keeps you fit

Having been bought a visit to the spa for a Christmas present we went yesterday and had an enjoyable experience. Little frustrating that the day is now available at a discounted rate on Groupon however this can't be helped.

A robe and slippers are included within the spa day and a 2 course lunch. The food choice was great - it was a buffet style and was better quality than a previous spa I have been to. Only slight disappointment was the waitress did not explain to us where to go for the food and we had to watch what others were doing to find out where to go. Lunch was in the restaurant which had a view out to the lake which was nice.

The hydro pool is outside so you may wish to take sun lotion if your going to spend a lot of time out there as we managed to catch the sun simply from the time we had spent in the pool and there were a lot of people sat by the pool sunbathing all day.

The different saunas and steam rooms were enjoyable. We didn't have any treatments so I can't comment on those.

Enjoyable day, it was busy but at a manageable level while we were there but it was getting very busy as we left with two large groups just arriving. Glad we had decided to leave early at this point.

Stayed here many times over the last 18 months, always great service, great rooms , a bit disappointed to see they have taken away the robes !! Wi Fi is fantastic. The room service menu is a bit limited but of good quality. No hesitation in staying here again at all, highly recommended.

Words fail me. I've never stayed anywhere with such diabolically DIRE service - and that includes supposedly third world countries and 1* B&Bs!
I don't know which hotels the people who've given this place 'excellent' and 'stunning' reviews have stayed at but I don't want to visit them...
The room - even with an upgrade to allegedly executive status (laughable) was tiny, I'm a size 10 and questioned whether my hips would fit in the single bed. No fridge and very tired dated decor, worse than an basic ibis. It was, however, very clean with lots of towels etc.
SERVICE - if you can call it that. Again, truly dire across the board. Everything was late, confused, subject to endless questions and rearrangements. Everything was surrounded by drama. In the restaurant, we waited about 40 minutes for 2 drinks to arrive. By the time we'd asked about 5 times for our desserts and finally got given a bill, with the desserts listed and no desserts, we gave up and walked out! Not exactly a relaxing weekend. Some of the staff were so young and inexperienced I felt sorry for them. They're friendly enough but there appears to be no support from a managerial perspective so every time you ask for something or complain you're just met with a wide-eyed look of confusion!
SPA - clean and better decorated than the disappointing bedrooms but again, poor customer service, quite an aggressive attitude considering its supposed to be a haven of tranquility and relaxation. I don't need a lecture on why we should've prepaid for our treatments (when no-one told us so on the phone so hardly our fault) when I'm checking in for an afternoon of supposed pampering.
The massage was ok but not great - especially for the price. I've never had a massage with cold oil before, it was like being slapped with a wet fish every few minutes!
And again, our arrival for treatments was met with confusion like they'd never seen clients before.
Oh, I also had possibly the worst pedicure seen in modern civilisation. By this point I was beyond complaining.
After more dismal service in the restaurant - yes, we were foolish enough to stay for two endless nights - we chucked our bags in the car boot laughing manically 'let's get the hell outta here' Went to a local pub for a roast the following day and almost fainted when the lad brought our drinks - the right ones - two minutes after we'd ordered them. Normality is resumed and thank god for that!!

I was very concerned to read your review, and thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We take all customer feedback very seriously and this helps us to develop and grow as a business.
We did encounter some technical problems in the Restaurant on that Saturday night and this proved to create some very difficult operational issues for us, however this should not have impacted on the level of service we gave you.
With regard to the Spa, all of our treatments are bookable and payable in advance, I am sorry if this was not communicated to you at the time of booking.
All of your feedback has been passed to our Senior Operational team for review.

Where to start? The room was Ok, but the sink in the bathroom was cracked. There was a coffee machine and kettle in the room, but only herbal tea was available. The bed was two singles pushed together, but was comfortable. There have been changes to the hotel since I last stayed, but they need to concentrate on the little things.

The food menu in the bar has changed and is expensive. But the best bit is looking over the lake. In the summer it must be stunning.

Breakfast was a choice of cooked or fruit or cereal. A good choice.

Overall the room needed some tlc and I am not certain if I would recommend this for a stay.
