Stayed at fortview guest house on the 19-21.3.14 .. Myself and my dad were meant to be staying for 4 nights for a fishing trip but decided to leave and find accommodation elsewhere after 2 nights.. The reasons for this were as follows:
We found the hosts quite unwelcoming and felt that their attempts at being friendly were un genuine. I had conversations via email with Catherine beforehand so that I could plan the trip the best I could as it says on the website that angling accommodation is their speciality.. During these emails I very much felt as if I were treading on eggshells with some of the brash answers I was getting.. I put this down to the way emails can be misinterpreted but after being there a few days we found this to be the hosts way... While we were there, Catherine was answering any questions we had of fishing the local area the best she could considering she takes care of the guest house side of things and dosnt go fishing herself... I would of expected that's where her husband Sean would come into his own being a keen fisherman himself and no doubt having an abundance of local knowledge.. But he blatantly tried his best to avoid us the best he could, answering questions with one word answers and walking off while I was mid sentence..

Also

The bed sheets were damp

The whole place was cold, with radiators that gave no heat out even when turned up to the max.. As 3 of the bedrooms are in the attic, it obviously gets the brunt of the cold outside weather, so heating that works is an essential.. We spent the two nights shivering ourselves to sleep..

The rooms arnt en-suite as described on website, but are actually a communal bathroom (with poor shower)

The coffee/tea making facilities in the room and at breakfast were all asda smartprice... Making a flask for guests for their days fishing was a nice touch, Until when I opened it and it was cold and tasted disgusting.. I appreciate this is an extra, but we just felt it was generally evident that everything was been done on a shoestring budget..

We left to go to the church view guest house which at the same price, didn't compare..

I realise this is a harsh review and I feel bad about that, but it is honest.. And the ethos behind trip advisor is about making the next travellers trip a lot better which hopefully this does

Stayed: March 2014

We were given a really warm welcome. Shown to our room, which was very spacious and comfortable with en-suite. Not knowing where to have dinner, we were invited to stay and have a meal, and what a wonderful meal, real Irish home cooking and at a very reasonable cost.
In the evening,we enjoyed sitting in the lounge room with other guests and a roaring fire. Cake and sandwiches were supplied for supper, along with a cuppa.
Catherine and Sean made us feel so much at home and helped with directions for our journey the next day.
We hope one day in the future to visit Ireland again, and will certainly have Fortview House on our list of places to stay.

We had such a wonderful time here, and couldnt have felt more welcome. Catherine and Sean make you feel just like old friends. We were greeted at the door, shown to our lovely comfortable room, and after settling in, we met in the lounge where Catherine served us lovely tea and homemade scones. Being of Irish descent, we learned that Catherine was able and more than eager to help us with our ancestry, and even locating any relatives we may have there. The house is located in a beautiful pastural setting, and great for evening walks or quick drive to the nearby towns. A wonderful Breakfast was made to order for each of us, and dinners as well, upon request. We hope to get back here soon. Certainly one of Ireland's best!
