Just back from weeks stay at Magee Lodge in Belturbet. Lovely place, peaceful and stunning scenery. Right on the river Erne. Met by Eddie the owner on first day and shown round property. Everything you need in a house was there for us with a lovely welcome shop including Guinness and prosecco. Deceivingly large on the inside with plenty of room to spread out. Our jack Russell loved it as much as we did and we really felt welcome. Eddie even took me for a boat ride down the river to see if we could spot kingfishers. Can’t recommend it enough
Stayed in August for a week of peace and tranquillity in the most beautiful
surroundings. No traffic no noise only the sounds of nature and the gentle
noise of passing boats. Accommodation home from home, comfy, cozy & clean. Ireland at its best. Also food fantastic at the Seven Horseshoes in Belturbet, well
worth a visit.
Stayed here for a week in August and would certainly recommend to other families who are looking for a break away from it all. The house is situated right on the river, perfect for anyone who is keen on fishing and in its own extremely spacious grounds, perfect for kids to run wild.
The house is extremely well maintained and clean and has everything you would need for a week or two in the countryside.
Beturbet is approximately a mile and a half walk away down the countrylanes and is a fantastic walk with plenty to see on the way.
This property comes highly recommended by me and i hope to visit again very soon.
Headed to Cavan for the weekend and stopped off for a night at Magee Lodge. Down a long, well surfaced country lane which means you really can "get away from it all". On arrival we were greeted by the lovely proprietor Eddie who does his utmost to make sure you are well accommodated and have access to everything you need and then leaves you to go about enjoying your stay. He has good suggestions on where to eat in the local village. The accommodation is clean, tidy, fully furnished and very comfortable. We didn't spend much time in the house however as we were down mainly for the fishing and we had brought our own equipment. The riverside is literally about twenty yards from the back doorstep and you can easily sit out there all day depending on the weather/how hardened you are. Luckily for us it was perfect weather, dry and sunny and the fishing was good, so good in fact that not only did I catch my FIRST FISH EVER, but SEVEN of them!
I love this place at night for stargazing, the evening mist comes rolling up the river and you can get wrapped up nice and cosy and sit down by the bank or on the back doorstep for hours just enjoying the tranquillity.
I do suggest bringing sturdy boots or wellies if you go down to the river as the long grass by the banks can be wet, and a pair of slippers/slip ons for the house as the owners like to keep it muck-free.
Spent a wonderful weekend here chilling out and enjoying the clear star filled night skies. We are lazy so just relaxing with peace and quiet
Great food at reasonable prices in the locality Me relaxing with a mug of coffee
We stayed at Magee Lodge for a long weekend in Sept 16 and had a really enjoyable few days in comfortable surroundings. The location in secluded countryside, on the bend of the river is fantastic. Having a cold beer at the end of the day whilst the sun set over the river was a reminder of why we visited Ireland. Stunning scenery and a laid back approach to life. Its approximately a 20 minute walk into Belturbet itself, where we availed ourselves of Dublin's finest product in several local hostelries and can recommend the food at The Seven Horse Shoes restaurant. Sadly not enough time to explore further but will return in the future
