“Lovely place to stay away from the chaos of Lake Garda (but not too far!)”
Reviewed 20 August 2013

We had a great stay in Macesina recently with our 4 year old. The host family are very welcoming and relaxed about having children around. The room we stayed in (Camera verde) was perfect for us as our son was in an adjoining room and the air conditioning really helped in a very muggy week.

The location is excellent - it was about 15 minutes to several towns on lake Garda, in particular we loved Salo and Desenzano for the holiday feel but it was nice to get away to peace and quiet too.

We spent a lot of time by the pool which had a shallow section and was big enough to have a good swim in too.

We ate there two nights, you get four courses and all are home cooked. Our favourite was pasta and pesto and some trout with sage - not to mention the lovely local cheese and honey and the good wine (the agritourism is on a wine route). It also seems to be very multi-national with many languages being spoken in the breakfast room.

Similar to one of the other reviews I would say the breakfast is the only thing which is a bit boring after a few days but the stuff that is there is good quality and we were very excited the last morning to get home-made pastries!

Would definitely recommend!

We had a wonderful 5 nights here with our 2 young children, thanks to Roberto, Francesca and everyone who help to make this place so special. The food was amazing, all locally sourced, and special requests were taken for our rather fussy children. The garden is a great place to relax and the rooms very comfortable with the benefit of air-conditioning. Would definitely recommend, our children didn't want to leave here they were so well looked after.

My husband and I came here with my mother in law for 3 nights in July. We drove from Milan in about 1 1/2 hours, luckily we had a satnav otherwise it may have been quite difficult to find. The farmhouse and setting are beautiful. There is a lovely private pool set in a lovely garden for use by the guests which was always very quite and peaceful, as was the whole place.

Our rooms were a very good size, very clean and had mosquito guards over the windows so you could keep your windows open and let the lovely fresh air into the room.

We ate each night at Macesina and they served a different meal each night. There was a pasta / risotto first course, followed by a meat dish, then a lovely cheese board with honey and chutneys and then a sweet dessert. We sat outside in a courtyard and it was so relaxed and we just chilled out and enjoyed the food and wine. I do not eat meat so they served some vegetarian alternatives and a lovely meal with trout. The food was excellent and very fresh.

Macesina is about 10 - 15 minutes from Lake Garda. On the Lake we visited the little towns of Salo, Desenzano and Sirmione which where all easy to get to and we had lunch and a walk around.

The only negatives for me was there was no fruit at breakfast and no real cereal option so it was basically bread and cakes. But there was a lot of yoghurt and honey / jams and cheese and meat. There was a jug of orange juice and bottles of water. Coffees would be served individually to your table.

In the bathroom they only provided 1 towel each that was in between the size of a hand towel and a bath towel so you had to use it for both! But they did have towelling robes to use. They do not provide towels for the pool so you do need to take your own (which we did not know).

Roberto was on hand to answer any questions and was very welcoming and hospitable. We will definately come again.
