“Pleasant surprise”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

We only stayed here for one night, but were surprised by the hotel.
We had a huge bedroom with an enormous bath.
Staff were friendly and pleasant.
Overlooked the mosque and easy to stroll down through the shops.
Billiards table-which my son enjoyed, not so sure about the Karaoke.
Good restaurant-great buffet, though more expensive than I had expected.
All in all-pleasant hotel stopver.

We only stayed here one night, but the hotel was lovely and clean, hotel staff friendly and helpful. Buffet had a vice selection. We arranged for one of the hotel staff to take us to a view point in the evening and the next day we were camping but wanted some exercise so one of the hotel staff was our guide and we drove up to Lipton Seat (an experience!) and then took us on a 3 hour walk down to our campsite. Wi Fi at this hotel was good enough to use skype, but its only available in the reception area.

We stayed here as an overnight after going via train. After being prepped that this was only a three star hotel, we were pleasantly surprised at the large size and modern condition of the room. It was quite comfortable, the only issues I had were the lack of screens on the windows which started to let mosquitos in and the noisy hallway. The food choices were small, but still tasty and good, we had a great preparation of some sort of tortilla/chicken item. One concern we had in general were the fire escapes, as we were way in the back of the hotel with lots of stairs, so the fire route was complex and lengthy. Overall a solid hotel, I would probably choose Ella next time as there seemed to be more accomodations available.

situated close to the centre of the town on a quiet side road this is an ideal spot to stay when touring sri lanka. hotel is clean and tidy and staff are helpful. There is an excellent choice of food in the restaurant. It is two minute a walk away from the town centre for shopping. The bar is lively and has karaoke but you have to scroll through the whole repertoire to find a song as there's no song list but all nationalities get together for a sing-song. The area around the bar is relaxing in the day time.

Room Tip: A single room is a single size not the usual double but it was fine.

Definetly one of the strangest places i stayed in Sri Lanka, it wasnt terrible, it was far from great, in terms of what we paid, value for money not even close, the going rate for this hotel should be around 40-50 dollars US a night, we payed way more than that, possible that Agoda misrepresents itself with this hotel, you think you are going to get a 5 star hotel but in the end you get like a motel 6, it truely is very low end.
the staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms very basic, i think its just the value for money is where we had our problems, how i still do not understand we could have paid so much to stay there.
Food was fine, there is nothing else in the area, to walk around to, its sort of not close to anything, if you are in the area, try your best to get a place in Ella, about 15 km away, a far nicer town to stay in.
We were in Sri Lanka for 15 days in 5 cities and were most disappointed with this hotel. They maybe trying but its hard to turn a motel into a Shangri La.

The best in this hotel is the extremely friendly staff. The manager welcomes you and after dinner the cook comes to every table and asks if you like the food. Also the waiters are very friendly.
The rooms in the new part are quite ok, nothing special, but ok.
For me the only drawback is the food. It is ok, no question. But I don't come to Sri Lanka to eat meat balls with potato ;)
Even the Sri Lanka food is not spicy. But the quality is good so don't be afraid. The bread was toasted in advance and very dry. I mentioned this to the manager and he will stay a toast machine in the breakfast room... we will see :)
Overall it is a good Hotel and I enjoyed both nights.

Room Tip: The new part with the white rooms. The old ones (red carpet) are not so nice.

This was a basic hotel with a good sized room with TV but no air con. The overall impression of the hotel was a bit run down. The welcome was nice with tea and biscuits and the food at the buffet dinner was relatively good. The main problem was the noise as the room overlooked the main road and temple and it wasn't particularly clean.
