Landgasthof Adler Pelzmuhle
Ranked #2 of 2 Hotels in Elzach
Reviewed 28 December 2011

I stayed for one night. The proprietor, looking a bit like a young Basil Fawlty, spoke no English and was very well intended, but not too professional.
The rooms are old school and dated, but quite clean. The bathrooms need modernising and the shower is minute. Hot water took about five minutes to arrive. The towels are very small, and not of good quality.
I was on the top floor and there is no elevator. The lobby is small and infrequently manned. No wifi is available, but a WLAN service may be.
The restaurant and bar are popular and staffed by good young Frauleins dressed traditionally.
I needed to leave at 4am and this was an issue. I ended up leaving my key on the recption counter, unlocking the front door and letting myself out. There are light switches on the stairs, but not in the lobby. Without a flashlight I would have been scrambling in the dark.
The food in the restaurant was mediocre and high in carbohydrates and salt. Wines beers a Schnapps were abundant.
The proprietor spent half an hour running around in the evening when he realised I was no longer in the bar and had a small outstanding balance to clear. After knocking on several other doors he woke me up and the account was settled. As I had repeatedly offered him payment and been answered 'Nein!' repeatedly, I was not impressed, and my Fawlty Towers analogy stemmed from this.
It is probably a great place to stay for older tourists and families. Suites are available next door.

Dear Christine and Steve

Thanks for your comment and your visit! We hope you had a good journey back home.

Our hotel is pretty small at the moment, this is why the reception is not opened 24 hours, but we offered you to pay everything before you leave and gave you the chance to keep the keys till the morning so you could go whenever you want.

It's right that it was a misunderstanding maybe, because the English of us was not that good at this time. We still take lessons :)

Since our house is relatively small, with only seven rooms, and only five comfortable holiday flats with a large balcony, we are very often booked out. Our 5 comfortable apartments in the main house and guest house are all with at least one large balcony and the penthouse apartment with 2 large loggias. You had booked one smaller room.

Due to the large demand for rooms and apartments in our idyllic location, surrounded by greenery, we are also expanding on, with the new "Sonnenflügel" by 13 wonderful, big rooms (De Luxe 43 sqm), all with balconies and stunning views of the Black Forest mountains.

Estimated completion is May / June 2014.
Furthermore, a spa oasis is planned for our guests yet.

We hope that you get the chance to come back one day to spent another holiday with us in our new, mordern guest house.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again.

All the best

Team of Adler-Pelzmühle
