Only reason I was booked in this hotel was for two days on business in Germany due to soccer matches all the hotels in Dortmund/Witten area full (it
I only was in the hotel enough time to sleep & from what I can tell the surrounding area is nice countryside & this hotel along w/ a few others in the town are used for parties, etc. as they have big party barns in back.
I did not eat in restaurant so cannot comment if this was good or not.
At check in the reception lady spoke no English...not a big deal since I had a co-worker w/ me dropping me who spoke German. I gave her my credit card & her machine would not take it as it had no "chip" in card. Based on other experiences in Houston I told her she was trying to run it as a debit card, not a credit card. She was clueless. My colleague wound up paying on his debit card as it would not run my debit card either as had no "chip" in it. Okay, so hotel not take credit card...whatever BUT working at hotel the receptionist should know enough about payment forms to clearly understand if they take credit OR debit only cards...I think she not know the difference b/t the two (based on my colleagues conversation w/ her in German she was clueless). Who in free world not know difference b/t debit & credit card?
Room was 66 EUR/night. Maybe 40 EUR a night would have been too much.
Room was dirty...as if bathroom had a basic wipe down but the cobwebs around edges & dust on furnishings show the room hadn't had a deep clean maybe ever. Was a cold night (upper 30's F) & room was not much warmer...a few hours after turning on the radiators it warmed up but you think if it was that cold outside a hotel would turn on heat for a patron who had a reservation! There was cable TV w/ CNN in English & although reception funny after an hour it decided not to work at all w/ no signal. Bed was HARD as a brick, pillow was so old no fluff left in it, & bath towels maybe as old as me.
Again, only two nights w/ just enough time in hotel to sleep & leave for work meant the basics of a hotel (comfortable bed, clean/warm room, nice towels) were POOR.
At 40 EUR or less a night probably okay...at 66 EUR a night I not need luxury but I need more than the basics a youth hostel might offer!!
