This friendly family-run hotel is in a great position overlooking the Tarn and close to the picturesque village of Ambialet. We stayed for 2 days in mid-October and ate dinner in the restaurant on both nights, enjoying authentic and freshly prepared cooking. The wine list offered a good choice or the local Gaillac at reasonable prices. Albi is close by and there are good strolls to be had around Ambialet and its hilltop priory.

Stayed 1 night as a group of 10 in 5 old cars. We had booked months in advance as a half board package.
Arriving at the hottest part of the afternoon, we were pleased for a friendly welcome and the use of the swimming pool.
Dinner was served on the terrace and was very good for an included meal.
The rooms were a little compact but the overall ambience was excellent.

We stayed at Hotel du Pont on the River Tarn for two nights of a week long walking holiday. We were exhausted when we arrived having completed a long, hot walk and were pleased to receive a very warm welcome and a very cold beer. Our room was small but adequate with a decent shower and air conditioning. The view from the room was lovely, overlooking the beautiful church on the hill. Dinner was absolutely delicious. It was a real pleasure to eat outside and we enjoyed the local wine which was recommended to us by the staff. The hotel has a nice outdoor pool with sunbeds. Breakfast was OK - bread, pastries yoghurt etc. We would have liked some fruit. A toaster would be good too.

Ambialet is a lovely little town with a medieval priory and we would recommend the Hotel du Pont for a short stay.

Having decided to try this restaurant as the tea rooms were shut it was an interesting experience. Unsure if it was because we were brit's, however our friends have lived in France for 18 yrs, but we were not best pleased to be put in front of the fire which had not been lit! The draft from the chimney breast came across us & our table a number of times & as it was not summer it was cold. A set Sunday menu where the there was a good choice. The service was slow between courses but the food was well presented. The place itself felt as if we were back in the 70/80's in decor terms and was waiting for the cast of Alo Alo to come out.

We have stayed here once before and found the stay really enjoyable with memorable food so decided to stay for two nights whilst touring the area during August 2011.

The rooms offer basic traditional French comfort and whilst a little out-dated offer a reasonable nights sleep. The air conditioning in all rooms in excellent and was necessary as outside temperatures were in the high 30s. It appears that some of the bathrooms are in the process of being modernised.

Our main disappointment lay with the food. The menu offered the least choice of items I have ever seen in 20 years of travelling within France. There is a daily menu which is supposed to change each day but during the period whilst we were there only the main course changed (that does not show a lot of effort). Other set menus are on offer but there choice is very disappointing. A few years ago this place had a real reputation in the area for great food but I think that is now sadly lost. The chef is described as ‘young’ and this inexperience appears to come through big time with the menu. Waiting staff are efficient in the restaurant

Petit dejeuner ‘dans le chambre’ was also poor. Ordered the night before - as laid down in the hotel brochure- it didn’t arrive until a phone call was made. Even for a French breakfast it was poor with items missing from it. Young inexperienced staff appear to need training to provide this service.

It is a shame that the food lets the place down as the setting of the terrace offers wonderful views of both the River Tarn and the town on Ambialet.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the river.

We did not plan to stay in the village, only stopped by to have dinner -- and the food was so perfect, the wine so well matched, that we asked the staff (which was very welcoming and friendly) if we could have a room. The room was well-appointed, with a lovely view of the river, and worth so much more than we paid.
We will definitely be back and will recommend this hotel and restaurant to anyone.

After searching to no avail for a room in Abli following the tour de France, the Ibis pointed us in the direction of hotel du pont in Ambialet and we were so grateful they did.
We arrived tired (and a bit fractious) to be met at our car and shown to our room so we could be sat for dinner as quickly as possible. We did not have to go through the usual mundane check in procedures and after a quick freshen up, we were seated on the beautiful terrace over looking the river with aperitifs and canapes (until the rain came and we scurried in to the equally inviting dining room). The food was delicious (both dinner & breakfast), service outstanding and comfortable rooms. There was a lovely welcoming feel to the hotel and we hope to be back to explore the surrounding area some more, to make use of the swimming pool and relax at this lovely little hotel.
