“So disappointing”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

This place is over rated. Food is average at best. Its not value for money as most pizza/pasta are priced over £10 and aren't a patch on other local italians who do a lunch special. The few times I have been the staff are mildly polite and it seem inconvenienced by customers being there. Not sure why I've been back more than once.

“not up to scratch on this occasion”
Reviewed 4 April 2014

We were a little disappointed in our visit to Il Piccolo the other evening, especially after having a great lunch there a couple of weeks ago. The service was poor from the youngsters, we had to ask for bread and waited ages for a drink. The starters were delicious but two out of three of us had risotto which was made with long grain rice! Apparently they had run out of risotto rice!

“As good as ever !”
Reviewed 29 March 2014

I must state at the outset that we're longtime fans of Il Piccolo from the days when it was in Prudhoe. So much so that we had our wedding reception for 60 guests there with Chef Orto (!)
delighting the guests with his stunning hot and cold dishes.
Quality wise nothing has changed with the relocation to Corbridge and the ever lovely Pam (Signora Orto !) is as welcoming as ever, instantly putting people at their ease in the comfortable surroundings of the restaurant with its pleasantly quirky and individual decor of genuine Italian memorabilia (courtesy of Chef Orto).
From the pleasingly thin and delicate crepe of seafood with apple (served cold with a delightful warm bisque sauce) to the prime steak topped with Dolcelatte and cream sauce (with a side dish of al dente carrot batons, ratatouille and small roast potatoes which managed to be crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside) every mouthful was a joy.
(I had a cheeky little taste of my wife's sea bass fillets wrapped in asparagus and it did not disappoint either!)
All in all a really good meal. It still amazes me that people go to other establishments in the area for purportedly Italian cuisine when the real thing, with an outstanding Sicilian chef,is on their doorstep in Corbridge.
In all honesty the best meals I've EVER had have been served up by Manny and Pam over the years .....long may it continue!

“A Real Italian Restaurant in England”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

My perfect Italian restaurant should be family owned and run, serve authentic Italian food cooked to order at a fair price,be comfortable and welcoming and provide an overall enjoyable dining experience. It exists in Northumberland hard by the Roman Wall at Il Piccolo. The Sicilian owner is the chef, his charming wife greets you warmly and helpfully and their son serves your delicious food assisted by his girlfriend. Even the sous-chef is from the Veneto. When the family is on holiday they are closed! As a regular visitor to Italy this is just the sort of place I enjoy there though in tourist areas they nowadays can be hard to find. This is the very opposite of the overpriced, snooty, solemn establishment whose starred chef never really does the cooking. Everyvisit is a fun occasion.Forza Il Piccolo!
