We spent seven wonderful days at Rarotonga Beach Bungalows. We were looking for a hideout to decompress after a hectic three months prior to our visit. RBB could not have been more perfect. The five bungalows sit on pure white sand at the lagoon’s edge. We found the beautiful grounds, gorgeous surroundings, serene atmosphere and accommodations superb. The hospitality was warm, friendly and unobtrusive. The owner Tom, along with Lucky and the rest of the staff looked after us in excellent fashion and we became friends almost instantly. Lucky’s cat Lolo was a fun addition. What we loved the most about the bungalows was the fact that they are positioned in such a way, that each deck is very private and you can not see the people sitting on one of the other deck, nor could you hear their conversations.

The snokeling and kayaking in the beautiful turquoise lagoon was unbelievable, especially since we were totally alone. We visited several of the other resorts, which were very nice, but if you want solitude, quietness and a vast white beach to yourself, the Beach Bungalows are the place for you.

Breakfast started with wonderful Hawaiian coffee, which we would bring back to our lovely deck, enjoying the ocean and morning bird activity. Then up to the lounge for an excellent breakfast which always included wonderful tropical fruit.

We did explore the island by motor scooter and took some tours which we enjoyed very much. We also waked to the local church service on Sunday to hear the most incredible choir music, this is not to be missed.

The Beach Bungalows does not offer lunch or dinner. Several days we had a simple lunch sitting on our very private deck. There are two restaurants within walking distance, which are very good. We also had dinner at other restaurants, using the bus, and utilized the pickup service of one restaurant. It is easy to rent a car or motor scooter also.

RBB is not for those who want the “resort experience”. It is perfect for couples who love privacy, quiet, peaceful beauty and feeling of having their own private home on an incredibly glorious lagoon.

We stayed in one of the very front bungalows. Perfect location right on the beach. Very picturesque. Good beach for swimming/snorkeling (make sure you take water shoes though).

The exterior design of the bungalow is fantastic. And the big balcony came in very handy during all the rain we had during our stay.

I found the interior design was not so great. The bedroom and bathroom in the back half were very dark during the day. (If you have great weather I doubt you will be inside much during the day - but we weren't so lucky).

Also the bedroom has one strip of frosted glass cubes, with no blind, so that meant the sunrise woke me up early in the morning, but the design did not let enough light in during the day.

The vinyl furniture in the front lounge room was not very inviting.

The insect screen door to the balcony was constructed in such a way that you couldn't see out of it (wooden slats obstructed all the view). So you either had to have it all open or the glass sliding doors closed if you wanted to look out.

We did like the 'outdoor garden' shower room. And the kitchen was well equipped and included drinking water/juice.

For the price we found the thin towels/thin pillows, lack of moisturizer/hair conditioner, quality of bedspread etc not exactly up to the level we would expect. (But it seems that Rarotonga accommodation is expensive, so relative to the price of other places on the island it seemed priced correctl, but do not expect international luxury standard.)

There is no pool but we found we didn't need one as the beach was great. We also used the complimentary kayaks/fins.

There is a breakfast area at RBB but no other facilities such as a bar etc so we found ourselves going up the road to 'Little Polynesia' (flash new mini-resort) for drinks etc. There is also a more casual place right next to RBB.

Lucky looked after us during our stay and she is great. She even drove us to the nearest store for supplies and gave us a 10-ride bus ticket.

The bus around the island is geared towards the tourist. (They don't make it so easy to rent a vehicle as you have to pay a fee and sit the local driving test in town. Traffic seems quite busy around the island road so they probably trying to get tourists to use the bus instead ).

The bus is fine during the day but not so convenient nights/weekends. But you don't seem to have much choice. We didn't see one taxi while we were there. Some restaurants will pick you up for a small fee. We did find not having wheels was a bit restricting but not impossible.

My husband and I stayed at the wonderful Rarotonga Beach Bungalows in April of 2008. It was fantastic!!
We weren't sure if we wanted to go to Tahiti or Fiji, but we checked out Costco Travel and found the Cook Islands. We were able to stay for 12 nights at RBB for the same price as 7 nights in Tahiti.
The RBB bungalows were just perfect! My family grew up in Hawaii and there were Polynesian accents in all of the bungalows. The bed was so comfortable, the shower was amazing. It was just like standing in a jungle.
The bungalow was cleaned every day. We had geckos chirping at us at night. I loved the little kitchenette. We were able to go to the grocery store and fresh fish market.
Luckey and Tom were the best hosts you could imagine. Our flight was supposed to arrive at 6am, but was delayed because of the weather. We arrived around noon and were able to check in to the bungalow for some well needed rest. Unfortunately we arrived during a torrential downpour and did not have a very fun first night because we had no transportation and the restaurant next door was booked for a party.
The next day the skies cleared and it was gorgeous. We woke up and went to the continental breakfast prepared by Luckey. There were tomatoes, cheese, cereal, toast, jam, fruit, juice, milk and the BEST was having a wonderful cup of Kona coffee. Not just one cup, but as many as I wanted..... It was fantastic.
We weren't able to stay in a beach front bungalow, but it didn't matter. There are chairs that we pulled down to the beach to watch the surf, or sit in the sun.
We went kayaking in the mornings, or for a walk down the beach, or stand in the water and fed the fish. It was one of the best vacations we have gone on and it was definitely due to the friendliness of Luckey and Tom! ( And Lola the kitty).
I cannot say enough wonderful things about RBB!! Great accomodation, great hosts, great location on the island.

We traveled to the Cook Islands at the end of March 2008. What a great time to go. Lot"s of sun and no Mosquitos! The Rarotonga Beach Bungalows were absolutely wonderful. Tom and Lucky who run the "mini" resort were very gracious and made us feel very welcomed. The bungalows were spotless and beautifully appointed. The grounds were very lush and tropical and kept spotless as well. The magnificant turquiose ocean was breath taking and quite warm. We had a delicious tropical breakfast every morning, which was included in the price. We would definitely recommend this fabulous place. We are already making plans to return!
Thank you Tom & Lucky for one of the best vacations we ever had!

We spent 5 days at Rarotonga Beach Bungalows and it was definitely not long enough! We absolutely loved our Beachfront Bungalow (Onu). Tom has put his personal touch into all aspects of this property. We were impressed with the solid construction and all the Polynesian furnishings. So much thought has been put into everything with little extras like the carvings on the deck posts. Every corner of the entire property is kept amazingly clean and neat. You can tell that all staff members take great pride in their work. We had the privilege of meeting Luckey, Lydia and Miriam who were all so friendly and made our stay special with their kindnesses. Every morning we looked forward to the Island breakfast in the Totara Lounge. We encountered no mosquitoes during our time at the bungalows, even though they were present elsewhere on the island.
Everyone should experience a Beachfront Bungalow at least once in their lifetime and it can't get much better than this!

We had an excellent stay at RBB - Tom and Lucky were very hospitable and made it hard to leave. The location is gorgeous and I could live forever on the deck, with that amazing view of the lagoon. The breakfasts are simple, but good, and the bungalows are clean and nice. It's very peaceful and a perfect place to get away from everything. Most of the other hotels we saw on Raratonga seemed much older and not nearly as charming. We've traveled extensively and will highly recommend this place to our friends!

My wife and I recently (we just returned from the Cook Islands today as a matter of fact) had the pleasure of staying at the Rarotonga Beach Bungalows. The entire stay was so above and beyond anything either of us could of hoped for! The bungalows were gorgeous, clean and very well kept. Lucky (I am sure I am spelling her name wrong for which I am very sorry) treated us like royalty from the moment we checked in (an early check-in at 6am) until we checked out. My wife and I ended up sleeping a bit after the flight, the early check-in day, and missed the buffet breakfast. Lucky was so concerned we would go hungry she brought a papaya to our room!

The greeting was great.

The bungalows were superb with great big decks overlooking the ocean/lagoon, even if you are in a bungalow further back, you will not miss the view. The bed was a bit hard, but that is the only complaint I have! Full fridge, microwave and fresh drinking water.

The resort itself was super clean and swept daily. The kayaks, for free use, were in great shape. We brought our own snorkel equipment so did not use theirs so cannot comment on it.

The entry to the resort and view from the road were very spectacular and given the lack of streetlights on the island, as one would expect, the lighting hung up around the resort entry (the tubular christmas lights) certainly helped with finding the place on a dark night driving home from an Island Night.

We would relish the opportunity to go back. Even in September, the end of the Cook Islands winter, it was a bit cooler than the summer but we still got some beautiful days, tans and the good stuff without the bugs and humidity (hear they can be bad in the summer but cannot comment on that)
