My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at Makayla Palms, situated on the best part of the island with everything you could wish for in a 'home away from home'. John, Rachel and their wonderful caretakers Loving and Fred made our stay feel more than special. Highly recommended and looking forward to a return stay.

We had the pleasure of staying in a beautiful villa at Makayla Palms for our first holiday to Rarotonga from May 14th-20th 2014. We were greeted by a friendly smiling face 'john' at the airport with a beautiful lei placed around our necks to transfer us to our villa :). When we arrived at the villa it was everything we had imagined and straight away we felt at home with all the little extras that made it that bit more special, from the beautiful gardens, the beautiful stroll to the beach directly in front for snorkelling, kayaking and swimming etc.John also let us use his scooter as we didnt organise one before we arrived and it was an awesome experience blasting around the island on it, so comfortable :).We never felt disturbed at all, it was great to meet Fred who was pottering around in the garden, he was great to yarn to, and wow! the grounds he maintains are spectacular and we loved waking up everyday to the tropical plants, geckos, fruit trees, birds etc it was great to pick us fresh herbs from the gardens for our cooking aswell. The weather was perfect from start till we left and we were happy to go back to nz with a beautiful brown tan and so much fantastic things to say too hehe :). We also had the pleasure of meeting Loving! Freds wife who is such a beautiful lady and does such a great job to make sure you are looked after at Makayla Palms, she also went that extra mile and washed our clothes and even hung them out to dry when we were in a rush to get them done before we were heading out earlier! beautiful. Rachel it was lovely to meet you also your sultana Loaf was the best loaf we had tasted in a long time, thank you it was a surprise to us when we found that baking on the table with a note it was yummy :). Overall Makayla Palms felt like a home away from home, it made our experience exploring rarotonga that much sweeter, we cant wait to visit again soon with our 2 kids next time.An unforgettable holiday in raro! Highly recommend Makayla Palms xxo Sandra & Benjie

What a beautiful island! Thanks John and Rachel, Lovie and Fred. The villa had everything we needed.couldn't work the tv but no matter- the radio was enjoyable....seems Elvis type songs are popular! Roosters only woke us once or twice. This is island wide, not exclusive to Makayla. The church singing on fridays at 6am was beautiful to wake to. A bit of Road noise might bother some but we didn't mind. Fresh fruit stall across the road was a bonus- nothing like fresh coconuts. Didnt need the aircon and only used the fan twice. Plenty of ventilation. Thanks John for letting us use the car the first night to pick up groceries. Unfortunately the restaurant i had booked for our first night's dinner weeks in advance with complimentary pick up burnt down the day before we arrived. Rachel visited twice to make sure all was ok. The gardens were beautiful thanks to Fred. Thanks to Lovie for saying goodbye on our last day and for your gift.A beautiful lady with a heart of gold. I will remember you every time i look at the pareu. The beach was beautiful, mostly people free. A few dogs but they were no problem. Would recommend if you're not wanting absolute beach front views.

Makayla Palms is a beautifully located, self-contained option for a spectacular holiday in Rarotonga. We stayed for 9 nights in March and were absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity of our hosts John and Rachel. The villas are spotless and provide an amazing home-away-from-home base-point for all activities on the island. Snorkeling from the beach directly infront of Makayla Palms was better than any other spot on the island. We are already dreaming of our next romantic getaway to Makayla Palms and look forward to seeing the wonderful John and Rachel again soon. Thanks again Makayla Palms for the most relaxing holiday we're ever had! Highly recommended.

We stayed at Makayla Palms for almost a month last year from Dec 16, 2013 to Jan 11, 2014. It was our first time at Makayla Palms and our seventh visit to Rarotonga.

It is difficult to add much more to the many positive experiences other visitors have had, except we think Makayla Palm is the “hidden gem” amongst all the other accommodations on the island.

Rachel, John, Loving and Fred made us immediately feel at home and staying at villa Tiare surrounded by a lush tropical garden was a delight. With the lagoon just a short walk away, we spent our days at the beach, snorkeling and swimming out to the edge reef. Overall our time at Makayla Palms was more like visiting relatives, a “Home away from Home”.

We are looking forward to be at Makayla Palms again in December 2014

We stayed at Makayla Palms for 9 days in February. Rachel picked us up at the airport and when we drove into Makayla Palms we knew immediately we would be very happy there.
3 villas set apart from each other in the most beautiful spacious gardens. We stayed in Tiarre villa, which was beautiful and furnished to a very high standard. It was very clean and comfortable with everything you would need provided in the kitchen, and a BBQ on the verandah which we used for many evening meals. The location was excellent, only one minute walk to the beach, and this was probably the best beach on the island, white sand and a fabulous blue lagoon. We went snorkelling every day using the snorkelling equipment provided free, there was also free use of Kayaks. We seemed to have the beach to ourselves most days and hardly ever saw anyone else, it really was paradise.
Makayla Palms gardens are a joy and these are looked after by Fred who does a wonderful job, his wife Loving is the housekeeper and keeps everything ship-shape as well as finding time to stop and chat and giving us fruit and herbs grown in the garden.
Whilst we were there we enjoyed an Umu, a traditional feast prepared by Fred and Loving of food wrapped in banana leaves and cooked underground, it was delicious, so many different meats and fish to taste. During this evening we were entertained to traditional singing and dancing by Freds daughters and niece. It was a wonderful evening and we are so glad to have been part of it.
Rachel was the perfect host, bringing us homemade cakes and biscuits, calling in to make sure all was ok and giving us info on shopping and Restaurants, nothing was too much trouble.
We would certainly highly recommend Makayla Palms.
We were sorry not to have met John, as he was away in NZ, but would like to thank you both from Linda and Malcolm in England.

My daughter and I went on a fact-finding mission as she would like to get married in Rarotonga. We stayed at Makayla Palms but got so much more than we bargained for! Rachel (the owner) was so helpful and generous and kind! The villa was superb and the location excellent ! I would definitely recommend this place.
