“Surprise birthday venue”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

Having booked into Cameron house hotel for a surprise 60th birthday for my husband with family & friends I can only say that the service, ambiance, venue, surroundings, rooms, facilities & restaurants at Cameron House were absolutely faultless. For the moment of arrival to departure everything was perfect. We had our two grandchildren attending the party and at no point did this prove to be an issue (our grandchildren are impeccably behaved but unfortunately the British on a whole seem to have an issue with children playing & being children) Given that Cameron house is a 5* hotel I was worried that it maybe an issue with other guests ... This couldn't have been more from what we experienced. Having stayed in many 5* and above hotels throughout the world there are definitely hotels of this standard that I would not take our grandchildren. So much so that we are in the process of rebooking a return stay.

Have nothing to complain about. Facilities were brilliant. View was excellent. Car park facility provided was very good. Staff was very friendly and even checked us in early. Very scenic and pretty. Would definitely visit again and recommend for a quiet getaway or a romantic venue. Only bit i could complain was the time it took to get seated and served for breakfast but the meal itself was excellent.

Room Tip: Maybe better off going early for breakfast.

We stayed at the Mansion house for 3 nights the weekend before Christmas, what a big disappointment!!!
No Wifi!!!
Picture on television was snowy!!
Only 3 Channels!!
Very disappointing, we thought we were going to "State of the Art" but everything was a "State"!!
When we booked our granddaughter into the beauty bar for "glitter fingers and toes" it took us about 30mins at the spa to pay for it, as the staff were not sure if we could put it on our account!!?
I also tried to buy some pool games for our granddaughters and they didn't have a price for them?? Another 25 minute wait till they found the price!?
I should also mention that they charge for all electricity used during your stay?!!!
We only had toiletries in 1 of the bathrooms?!! We had to phone and have extra delivered to us? WHY!!!
Only good thing about the Carrick was the "Claret Jug" where we enjoyed a lovely Sunday Lunch which was fresh and tasty and,, kids eat free with 2 adults!!
We certainly will not be rushing back!!

The lodges are really well fitted out and are indeed of a very high standard, however they are a nightmare to heat with a few electric radiators scattered about we only really started to feel warm on the 3rd day. The bathroom however never got warm and was really unpleasant, gave my boys a good excuse why not to get showered!!!

I agree with other reviews re bar service and wifi etc. That was our experience too and not really what you expect from a hotel of this standing or price. Perhaps one of the most disappointing things was 8 out of 10 staff really had no time for you, I got the impression they were totally fed up and struck me as tired and too busy.

Sadly don't think we will return.

Beautiful setting. Lodges clean and we'll fitted out. Fantastic setting on edge of golf course. Spoiled by cold swimming pool/ leisure centre. Very poor bar service. Rubbish WiFi. It was like holding on for BT to answer the phone. Not what you want to do on holiday.
Made the best of it who needs a drink or Facebook on holiday anyway.
Bit of a bummer if you're trying to run you're business though.

We stayed here for a week, the check in was good and the concierge guy was lovely (forgotten his name). Lodge was big and well equipped which was good. The downside to the larger attached lodges is you can here people walking about next door. We had a 3 year old child and family next door for the first 3 days and it woke up at 6 every morning so no lie in as we could hear it running around. I'm not blaming the child as when the next family moved in you could hear them too. The setting for the resort is amazing, the hotel itself is lovely but the staff rather snooty and they should remember that some guests may not choose to flash the cash like the majority of the guests (because we don't need to prove ourselves!) The ones they look down on may have excellent high powered jobs and plenty of money so treat every guest the same!
